Overweight Slimming World Leaders

I've gone to SW a few times over the years and they have all had something in common: their leaders are more overweight than I am.

The one I know best, I've known for about fifteen years. Her children were at school with mine. She's always been the same weight, needing to lose (at a guess) six or seven stone.

I remember going to WW a long time ago and the leader there told me they had to be at target weight (or near enough) before they could train as a leader. If they put on a lot of weight, their job was gone.

I think that's fair enough, really. They are the ambassador for the diet. Yes, we can all have a troublesome time occasionally where we put on weight, but what kind of leader is it who stays several stone overweight for decades?

I went to SW tonight. A different leader was there, standing in. She was the biggest person in the room.

Surely this is a bit ridiculous?

Can I ask a question? What do you think of overweight HCPs telling you to lose weight?

ppeatfruit · 19/01/2012 09:43

Sorry sparkling I don't know what HCP stands for but IMO ANYONE telling you to loose weight who should do it themselves (without saying 'I know let's do it together' )is a bit -stupid- deluded and hypocritical.

Oh sorry. Health Care professional usually GP. I got a bit of a funny comment on another thread about it.

Yep! I with the McKenna group. It does work and costs nothing except the price of the book which you can pick up for a couple of quid. I will never diet again.

A little disillusioned when I joined Slimming World recently, to discover the leader was morbidly obese. Yet she still had her slim picture on the SW stand. A lovely person but difficult to respect her lecturing on losing weight. A bit like an alcoholic telling you how to stop drinking or a smoker; smoking whilst lecturing you on how to stop. When I mentioned this to someone, they replied, “ Oh, many SW lecturers are fat.” That’s discouraged me even more. I’m aware that other sleeping mi g groups don’t allow their lecturers to regain more than a few pound. Are these lecturers in denial?

The regional manager for SW local to me is fat. She goes on and on about how she lost 4 stone and changed her life but honestly she is still about a size 18. I get that she’ll feel better than she did at her biggest but I’ve gone from a size 22 to a 16/18 since March and I still feel like crap. Slightly less crap, yes, but I’m still way too heavy and unfit. I can’t imagine stopping at my current weight and crowing to everyone about how great I look/feel.
