Fed up today as i stood on the scales after prob 12 months of not checking my weight as i was advised not to and blow me i have put on about ten pound Sad
This is despite running reasonably regular say 2-3 times a week and watching what i eat without 'dieting'
I had noticed that my hips seem bigger but my legs have toned up a lot.
How am i gonna lose this now?

muscle weighs more than fat though, doesn't it? Go on how you look, not how much you weigh. You say your legs have toned, how is that for a start?

Quenelle · 10/11/2011 10:30

Muscle weighs more than fat. I weigh more now than before I started running, but I feel and look better. I go by how my clothes fit, rather than how much I weigh.

Keep up the good work. It sounds like you're doing really well.

HowOfShands · 10/11/2011 10:32

Weight is sometimes irrelevant. Look at your tone, waist size, energy and fitness levels, fit of clothes etc.

Pagwatch · 10/11/2011 10:33

Hmmm.
It is probably the muscle/fat weight thing. But can I ask, are you close to menopause?

I have piled on weight over the last year and very strenuous fat burning work outs twice a week, plus low carb healthy eating have led to absolutely zero weight loss in 6 weeks.

I figure at least I am not getting bigger.

Menopause fucking sucks.

ZZZenAgain · 10/11/2011 10:34

don't like the sound of that

Pagwatch · 10/11/2011 10:36

I am sure it doesn't happen to everyone.
But I am very frustrated.

However clothes are fitting better and I am toning up. [sigh]

GypsyMoth · 10/11/2011 10:40

I'm finding this too pag, hadn't thought of menopause.

Beauregard · 10/11/2011 10:41

Pagwatch- I bloody hope i'm not approaching the menopause but i am unable to lose weight even if i try yet my thyroid test was normal.

My Mum is menopausal (hrt keeping it at bay) and she still cycles/exercises/works out daily but her weight will creep up really, really easily. It's a real battle. MIL is just starting to find the same thing.

Pagwatch · 10/11/2011 10:43

My mother.....and my mil.....

Grrrrrrr

You are messing with a menopausal woman here.

HowOfShands · 10/11/2011 10:46

Pelvic, how far are you running, what is your diet honestly like and are you otherwise active?

I couldn't lose weight after having dd, put it on in fact despite working out and eating sensibly. I had to run further and harder, drink more fluids, cut out snacks and move around a lot more generally on top of running. So walking, cycling, resistance and cardio work on top of running.

HowOfShands · 10/11/2011 10:49

My ma had me young, MIL was only 37 when I met dh, honest it's a family dynamic thing. I'm really quite old myself.

My Grandma and DH's Grandma are getting fitter and slimmer now they've gone through the menopause. In fact, dh's Great Grandma is the fittest person I know. She was up a ladder cleaning her gutter yesterday before scrubbing her floors and mowing the lawn. She's whippet thin.

I'm making it worse, yes?

NorksAreMessy · 10/11/2011 10:51

I too have been leaping around more since menopause, mainly to stave off depression, but partly to stop the spread.
But the spread spreads nevertheless.

I am now trying a no-alcohol few weeks to see if that helps (sadly, it seems to. It even reduces the appetite the next day, and gives me more energy...BUGGER!)

Good luckpelvic, don't stop what you are doing, your body will be healthier, if not lighter

Beauregard · 10/11/2011 11:53

I dont run massive distances prob 2 miles and i'm not good with hills .Recently i have been rebounding for 30 mins at a time 3 days instead of the outdoor running in the hope that less impact reduces my muscle spasms.Come to think of it maybe it's my meds that are making me gain weight Hmm
I am veggie but i prob eat more processed food than i should but i dont eat huge amounts of it,just eat late because i work evenings.

Howofshands

A bit, yes. Grin

Pelvicfloornomore - the late eating thing is a git too. I get torn because I want to eat with dh but sometimes that is 9.00. It certainly doesn't help if you have your biggest meal just a few hours before bed.
More water helps me.

Pagwatch · 10/11/2011 12:44

Norks - yes. I agree about the alcohol thing so I have stopped drinking during the week. Which I hate but unfortunately I have to admit that I do feel better.

Beauregard · 10/11/2011 12:44

yeh most nights i'm not eating until 9 and by then i am ravenous.

Have further tortured myself and done my bmi and i am now offcially feckin over weight.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 10/11/2011 12:47

I have added a decent sized snack in at about 4.00 ish. Something like celery and garlic dip. It helps me control what I eat at supper

Beauregard · 10/11/2011 12:54

I think i'll try that and write down everything i'm eating too and then at least i will know whether it is dietry.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 10/11/2011 12:58

Yes. The writing it down thing is a revelation.

NorksAreMessy · 10/11/2011 13:26

writing it down does work...even down to @spoonful of beans from DD's plate', 'licked cake batter from spoon', 'absent mindedly ate a dog biscuit' etc (I am just out of control, aren't I?)

Beauregard · 10/11/2011 15:23

lol @ Norks

Beauregard · 10/11/2011 20:51

I have been in a foul mood all day and i cant believe i didnt notice the weight going on Sad
Not feeling very optimistic tonight

OP posts:
NorksAreMessy · 10/11/2011 22:22

OK pelvic, don't be sad any more.

Tomorrow you a going to do just ONE thing to make you feel better, and so will I and we will compare notes.

And please...throw the scales out of the window. They are just Instruments of torture

GeekLove · 10/11/2011 22:34

It is surprisingly hard to eat enought protein but very easy to eat WAY too much sugar and white carbs. Have a protein shake as a snack to keep of hunger and look at your diet to see if you can cut out like white bread and pasta. I swap with veggies and beans and will be going down the protein shake route in the new year.
