Thought this might be a good way to rid myself of a few Xmas pounds.
Anyone else doing this?

i caught a bit of the ad the other day but didnt take all of it in and havent seen it again- which cereal is it,would like to give it a go sounds an easy way of dropping a few pounds!

myalias · 01/01/2006 11:43

It's Special K and Crunchy nut cornflakes. I do this when I have had a fat attack throughout the year and the most I have lost is 9lbs in 2 weeks.

collision · 01/01/2006 11:56

I might be up for it too!!

What do we do??

Sai · 01/01/2006 12:12

9lbs is an excellent weight loss for 2 weeks!
Just what I am looking for.
The idea is that you have a bowl of cereal(with semi-skimmed milk) for 2 meals a day and eat a normal healthy 3rd meal.
Snack on fruit etc.
Its advertised for Special K and Crunchy Nut but you can probably have any healthy cereal.
I've started today.

that sounds really easy to follow. Im defo going to give it a go- will have to start tomorrow though as tesco shut til then!

natmeistergeneral · 02/01/2006 10:03

ive started!

Sai · 02/01/2006 14:04

Great!
I think you can lose 6lbs quite easily if you stick to it.
I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to stick to as no one ever invites you anywhere in the 1st 2 weeks of Jan.
I'm finding it ok so far.

natmeistergeneral · 02/01/2006 15:38

are you not feeling hungry yet sai?

Sai · 02/01/2006 16:57

Well today I have had a bowl of fruit'n'fibre, a low fat yogurt, an apple, a satsuma, 1 dry ryvita and a bowl of crunchy nut.
I don't think thats too bad and I am hungry but not starving. I can wait for dinner (baked potato, veg, thin slice of beef)
I think when you are used to stuffing your face (ie over Xmas) you have to go through that hungry phase for a day for your appetite to reduce, IYKWIM.
Just keep having healthy snacks and drink lots of water.
It will be worth it!

Hi co-cereal munchers
I'm thinking of doing it as well. I second the fruit and fibre choice, at least it keeps you regular.
Not very good at the evening meal, still have Christmas cake left and lots of sweeties, so although I only had a soup and sandwich and a half, also had piece of cake and a couple of choccies. Oh and a G&T.
Oh well have to start somewhere.
Plus a 20 minute walk with the pram.

Skribble · 02/01/2006 23:16

Heres the website . I think you could do it with pretty much any cereal, the ones with more calories weigh more so as long as you stick to the 40/45g guide it will give you the same. Obviously the helthier the better and the higher fibre ones will help you to feel fuller.

natmeistergeneral · 02/01/2006 23:19

glad everyones getting into it- hope my 2nd day will be as easy as today! think we should do as much as poss to encourage one another as my will power can be crap!keep up the good work!

Skribble · 02/01/2006 23:24

Just remind yourself if you can get through the 2 weeks you will feel better and your appetite will be reduced to normal levels rather than the festive capacity that we reach. It will be easier to eat a healty "normal" diet after.

Sai · 03/01/2006 09:04

Hi everyone.
Hope you're all doing well today.
Thanks for the link Skribble.
Is anyone doing any exercise?
I've been doing a bit of walking and sit-ups daily and am thinking of digging out some old exercise videos.
I feel quite motivated at the moment - I think its because the whole country is probably dieting now too!

OP posts:
natmeistergeneral · 03/01/2006 12:20

oh blimey exercise! ive been haring round the soft play centre this morning up and down the highest slide etc and walking with buggy etc- doea that count? i really dont seem to be able to get motivated/have time to do proper exercise.Ive only popped on here on route to cbeebies website!i did buy the davina mccall vid last year and havent managed it yet!

Sai · 03/01/2006 17:50

That sounds like exercise to me, natmeistergeneral!
I got really hungry today so I have made a big pot of fat free vegetable soup and just had some with 2 ryvitas - should keep me going until dinner time now.
Just out of interest, how much weight do you all want to lose in total?
This is just a kick start for me as I want to lose about 1.5 stones.

Crystaltips · 03/01/2006 20:28

Had a bowl for breakfast and a bowl for lunch - but by 4pm I was feeling faint .. surely this isn't normal ???

natmeistergeneral · 03/01/2006 22:43

yep ive been dead hungry today too!not sure feeling faint is good, maybe you should have something extra with your cereal like a banana or something? dont really know how much weight i want to lose as i actually dont own a set of scales-too depressing! its just a question of how tight my clothes feel and how i look.

maisiemog · 03/01/2006 23:36

I'm not doing so well at this diet lark. We still have cooked meat and cheese to finish from Christmas so I feel guilty having cereal for lunch and then chucking out things that have gone off.
I don't think I can manage on a teeny bowl of cereal, I will be needing a bigger bowl with bananas and sultanas, plus a reasonable dinner.
Diets are rubbish. I want to eat food!!
I might tailor the diet to suit me better .
Plus, I'm still breastfeeding so I need more calories.
I Also don't have scales, and go by tightness of clothing, but I reckon I am a stone overweight if not a stone and a half.
There's something about having a baby that makes me not care about being a bit chubbier than normal. I Just wear bigger clothes.
How are you motivating yourselves? I don't think I have a very strong motivation.

Sai · 04/01/2006 09:15

Faint is definitely not good.
Eat more healthy snacks. I've been having loads - mostly fruit but also soup and ryvita. I think Kelloggs suggest you snack on their Special K cereal bars.
I hate dieting too. I find it so difficult. I come from a family of big eaters (no one is overweight) and I really love my food.
My baby is now nearly 9 months old and I just think that I need to shift the extra weight before he is 1. I've lost over 1 stone already but I put on nearly 3 with the pregnancy.
I go back to work in 3 months so I need to fit back into my suits.
I'm just sick of not being able to get back into any of my clothes and feel like such a frump.

OP posts:
Crystaltips · 04/01/2006 10:03

I had a banana in each bowl - but come to think of it I ate NO snacks at all - maybe that was my downfall ... must take this seriously and act responsibly .....

maisiemog · 04/01/2006 20:00

It's just not happening for me this cereal thing. I'll have to start again once I've been shopping - ran out of cereal.

natmeistergeneral · 04/01/2006 20:14

my diet has been helped along slightly today due to the fact ive not eaten much cos im ill! how the rest of you doing today?

Skribble · 04/01/2006 23:29

I am not doing cereal for lunch I am having soup and stuff, I get bored easily and love food so it wouldn't work for me. If going for the 2 meals of cereal i would suppliment with fresh fruit juice, apples, bananas and a yogurt.

katetee · 05/01/2006 08:08

hiya
I've done two full days and have to admit to being very hungry!!and a bit bored. Im not usually keen on sarnies, but OMG i am craving one now lol! Mind you am also giving up the red wine so probably missing out on quite a bit of sugar too.
good luck
