Whilst shopping with my super slim friend over the weekend I realised just how fat I feel - and getting on the scales provided proof. I've put on 2 stone - 1 stone of which has come on very recently ( think a month or two?!).
Other than looking lumpy and increasingly featureless, my legs are achy and I don't feel like I've woken up properly ever.
So, I'm going to start on the diet today. The plan is to eat lots of veg and fruits, lean meats, and limited carbs. I'm going to have 3 decent sized meals a day, and not snack unless I'm truely hungry.

I'm going to weigh myself and post on here every Tuesday. Anyone who wants to join in please do!

Starting weight; 11st 13.
(Target weight 10st so 1st 13lbs to lose)

oh chocolate fairy cakes! how lovely! important for dd to share Grin

you really shouldn't be downhearted about the 12st thing, y'know. look how far you've come! you've lost over 2 stone!!!!!!!! this will be the week x

moosemama · 23/09/2011 20:31

My thoughts exactly re the cakes! Wink Grin

I know I shouldn't feel downhearted about it. I guess its just so close now that I'm getting impatient.

Am finding it harder to make healthy calorie choices now the nights are drawing in and we've had a few cold days as well. My body is screaming out for winter comfort food and salads just aren't cutting it anymore. I need to find some healthy warming recipes. Think I might do some googling this weekend.

madwomanintheattic · 24/09/2011 00:34

i'm working towards stews. which i know sounds a bit weird, (it's partly because of the GAPS thing), but i'm not including potato at all, and i'm spicing it up a bit and having a huge spoonful with leaves/ salad instead of going heavy on the carbs. i've been making lots of stock, too, which i've got in the freezer and i'm about to turn into batches of veggie soup (again, no spuds) so that i can just heat and go, rather than crave bacon sarnie because it's freezing! Grin must be really tricky as a veggie though at this time of year - do you use any meat replacement products to substitute?

i love squash and orange veg at this time of year. orange food seems warming and nourishing somehow! (have so far been resisting the sweet potato lol)

moosemama · 24/09/2011 15:09

I have had a couple of stews this week, but as you said, being veggie, they tend to need a lot of root vegetables to make them warming and filling enough - added lentils to one and was Shock at the amount of calories it added.

My dcs love butternut squash soup and I tend to take a batch of it out at add some curry spices for myself and dh.

I have been eating quorn - but I'm not keen. Dh calls it 'frankenfood. Grin

I love potatoes, so don't exclude them completely. I'm not low carbing, but I do make sure they are included withing my MFP carb allowance.

moosemama · 24/09/2011 15:10

I'm hiding here, because ds1 is in full meltdown and has upset ds2 who is also howling the place down - and we have to get to the library in the next 45 minutes as I have a flipping fine! Aaargh!

moosemama · 25/09/2011 15:57

As predicted, started level 3 of the shred yesterday and am up 1lb 4oz this morning. Hmm

I knew it was probably going to happen, but that doesn't make it feel any better. Harrumph!

madwomanintheattic · 26/09/2011 01:27

fine schmine. i had a bill on thursday from the fecking library. Sad ah well. all books back now.

hope everything clamed down yesterday... Grin

i bet in two weeks you have a mahoosive drop and kickstart loss in a big way again. don't fret! inches, remember, inches, not scales!

Lambskin · 26/09/2011 17:49

Hi all, feel like I've been away for ages. Been horrible here lately. Think we're going to have to give the cat away. DS2 keeps harrassing her in a life threatening way Sad and just cannot leave her alone or understanding that lying on her/ bending her backwards is unacceptable - she is an unfortunately daft gentle cat. To make matters worse dh is away until Wednesday and I'm only just clinging on to sane.

Sorry, I'll catch up on what everyone else is up to and hopefully post later, thought I'd drop while ds2 is eating and his bath is running before the bedtime onslaught!!!!!

Oh yes, weight! Knew there was a reason I was here Grin
I've put on a couple of pounds which I'm not surprised about, but my waist has shrunk by another inch Confused

Lambskin · 26/09/2011 17:50

'drop in', although 'drop' is quite apt Grin

moosemama · 26/09/2011 17:57

Thanks madwoman. I'm feeling a little bit better today, but seem to be a real mardy pants intermittently these days. I actually don't think I've been eating enough, as I've been 3-400 kcals under my goal on MFP many times over the past few weeks, so am going to try harder to make sure I plan my meals better and eat a bit more.

Turns out ds1 was coming down with a coldy/fluey thing, hence the meltdowns over the weekend. He never knows he's ill until he's really bad.

£3.75 my flipping library fine was and imho it was their fault. Went on line to renew all of our books, knowing I wouldn't be able to get into town before they were due back. Their website said they'd been renewed, but when I went back in a few days later to check how many books ds1 had, I realised it had only renewed them for two days instead of a month and was now flashing red saying all our cards had expired. It doesn't tell you on the card when they're up, so you have no way of knowing unless you happen to go online. Nothing I could do about it either, as you have to go in and I couldn't get there. Cue a 25p a day fine on three books, that they wouldn't waive. Hmm

Have walked to the next village and back, pushing dd in her pushchair today. Was walking solidly from 10.30 to 12.55 about 20:80, dd pace vs really pushing. Had loaded the pushchair with shopping - including lots of root veggies on the way back and forgot I had a huge hill to tackle when I walk that way - so I figure that was quite a workout, what with dd in there as well. It certainly felt that way!

Managed to force myself to shred before fetching the boys as well, but stuck to the easier versions of the moves, as I was really far too tired by then.

So, after all that, I have decided to have the roast dinner we didn't get yesterday. All carefully weighed and measured of course - but I have masses of calories left so I feel safe to enjoy it. Speaking of which, I'd better go and sort it out, or it'll be burned.

moosemama · 29/09/2011 17:44

Had a bad week food-wise this week, roast on Monday, quesadillas on Tuesday and roasted veg pasta last night. I've gone over on my cals a little bit a couple of times this week, but am hoping it won't matter, as I've was way too much under several times over the previous week or so and hope eating more will stop me ending up in starvation mode.

Weighed myself this morning and I am 2 ounces off meeting my target. Am pre-menstrual though, so what's the betting it goes up instead of down tomorrow morning. Hmm

Did a double shred today, level 3 in the morning and 2 this afternoon, to make up for missing my workout yesterday. I went for a very long overdue haircut and only just got back in time to collect ds2 from school, then was too exhausted to work out later in the evening.

Ds1 has been off sick with a fluey bug since Tuesday. Poor thing's been really poorly, but is a bit better today. Unfortunately, dd has now come down with it and we were supposed to be going out tomorrow night, so the dcs were going to sleep at Mum's. Dd has never slept away before, so it doesn't seem fair to make her first time when she's ill, especially as these sorts of bugs always feel worse at night.

See you tomorrow for weigh-in.

Lambskin · 30/09/2011 08:59

I'm getting a bit fed up of my weight randomly going up and down. So, yesterday I was 10 stone 3 lbs and today 10 stone 5 lbs. I need to kick start my weight loss again and think I'm going to do Dukan. I already have the book and the website told me I should be 9 st 3 by November something a couple of weeks ago so I'm going for that.

I know that ds1 going away and ds2's behaviour has contributed to all this. I need to focus, focus, focus. However, it's Friday ... Wink

Good luck everyone else!

moosemama · 30/09/2011 09:25

Morning Lambskin, good luck with the Dukan. I'm trying to reduce my carbs a bit as well. They're well within the MFP guides, but I am finding it harder to lose at the same time as more regularly eating a sandwich for lunch and more carby veg at night.

I'm also having the same trouble with daily fluctuations and I know I shouldn't weigh in every day, but I can't help it and it seems to have become part of my morning routine. I have noticed and people on the MFP boards say a lot, that if I've eaten more sodium, I am almost definitely going to see a rise on the scales next morning. My sodium levels are really low, but if I have, say wraps for tea, the sodium in them really makes my body grab water. I changed my MFP settings to monitor sodium a while ago now and there's definitely a correlation between the two.

So to this week's weigh-in.

Stats:

Starting weight 16/6: 14st 2lb
Weight 24/6: 13st 8lb
Weight 1/7: 13st 7lbs
Weight 2/7: 13st 5lbs
Weight 13/7: 13st 4lbs
Weight 14/7: 13st 1lb
Weight 21/7: 12st 13lbs
Weight 29/7: 12st 11lbs (and 6oz)
Weight 16/8: 12st 9lbs (weighed in Tues not Fri due to holidays)
Weight 19/8: 12st 8lbs
Weight 20/8: 12 st 7lbs
Weight 26/8: 12st 8lbs 4oz
Weight 2/9: 12st 6lbs
Weight 9/9: 12st 5lbs
Weight 15/9: 12st 2lbs - 2 stone off!
Weight 23/9: 12st 1lb
Weight: 30/9:11st 13lb 6oz

Last week's goal - 12st 0lbs met/exceeded (but only by 4oz!)

Next week's goal: 11st 12lb

I'm happy with that, with it being pmt week. I drank water like a fish yesterday and did the two shred levels - desperately hoping I would lose the last 2oz from yesterday to meet my target. The end of next week is TOM, so I'm not expecting miracles for next weeks' weigh-in though.

Lambskin · 30/09/2011 11:18

Hooray for moose! Grin
Your weight loss looks pretty consistent to me, you obviously have a will of iron!
Very interesting what you say about sodium, my dinner was very salty last night (tandoori chicken) so that could explain the rise. Will have to keep an eye on that. Unfortunately salt is what I crave more than sugar so it's going to be hard - I already don't eat crisps anymore Sad

madwomanintheattic · 30/09/2011 18:29

woo hoo moose!!!

as predicted, i have put on 2 lbs. Grin

i also feel knackered, with sore muscles. and i'm coming down with a chest cold - got that fuzzy lung feeling that i can't shake.and i definitely have pmt. full of the joys of spring, me.

so i'm going to investigate the contents of the fridge and make a leftover veg soup for lunch. with homemade chicken stock so that i can also feed it to ds.and i may hunt down some echinacea or something and retire to bed for an hour hiding from the world. once i've put a load of laundry on and vaccuumed.

i agree with the salt thing btw. it's the one thing i crave - but oddly only when i've had some. if i've been really low sodium diet, i don't crave it at all...

madwomanintheattic · 30/09/2011 18:31

like pistachios. wave one at me and the entire packet is gone.

moosemama · 01/10/2011 12:11

Weighed in this morning and another pound had gone! 11st 12lbs 6oz! Grin Just need to keep it off now and lose the other 6oz before Friday's goal.

Lambskin, I used to crave salt as well, but you do get used to not having so much of it eventually. Bizarrely, I am now craving eggs! I thought I'd never want to eat them again after my two week Dukan eggathon. Am thinking its either protein, iron or both that my body's after.

Madwoman, that 2lbs is a good sign. Think of all that muscle you're building. Hope you managed to fight the bug off and are feeling better today.

We did manage to go out in the end last night. Mum came and babysat at our house, so the dcs could all sleep in their own beds - bless her little cotton socks! Grin Only got in at 3am though, so am beyond knackered today. Was very good though - only one G&T (slimline of course Wink) and pints of water for the rest of the night.

It was good to get out . My last night out was dh's 40th in February. Lots of people I haven't seen since then as well and finally people noticed my weight/inches loss. One person - who is now a designated friend for life Grin - told me I look 10 years younger than last time they saw me - and coming from them that is a massive compliment. Grin

madwomanintheattic · 03/10/2011 17:05

woooooo! well done! (a nd v well done for lasting that long on one g&t Grin) i'm feeling much better today but have been a bit rough on and off over the weekend.
busy week this week though - no time to be sniffling!

moosemama · 03/10/2011 19:35

We are bug ridden as well madwoman, dd, dh and I all have varieties of the lovely virus ds1 brought home last week, althought fortunately nowhere near as badly as he had it.

I have a ridiculous week too. Ds2 was at the eye hospital this morning, ds1 is back to the paediatrican tomorrow and I have my neurology appointment on Thursday.

We are also having appointments with lots of drive people, as we're planning to get our driveway block paved before it gets all squishy and ends up being traipsed through the house on a daily basis all autumn/winter again. Am daftly excited about this. I've been so embarassed by the state of the front of our house, well, pretty much since we moved in 8 years ago! Blush

Weight still holding at 11st 12lbs 6oz at the moment, so am hopeful that means its staying off.

madwomanintheattic · 03/10/2011 19:50

i have not one but two paed appts with different kids and docs tomorrow. i'm also supposed to be waiting here for the man to deliver our new washing machine and collect the old one... i haven't quite worked out how that's going to work yet. they offered me a cancellation as ds1 was having to wait until the end of nov, so it's all a bit last minute!

and meetings three nights this week. and dh at a conference. and somehow i've got to get organised as it's thanksgiving weekend here and we've got friends coming to stay, which means moving all the bedrooms round to squeeze everyone in.

and an incontinent dog on steroids for allergies. which isn't helping my housekeeping!

well done on holding... fabtastic! and oooo, block paving! i totally understand. at the mo the dogs are trailing in wet and muddy feet and it's crazy, i feel like i'm walking on silt on the floor all the time. yuk yuk. even when it's dry. it's either mop all day or pretend to ignore.

moosemama · 03/10/2011 20:03

What a pita. That happened to us last month, both a different hospitals, one in our town one the other side of the next city. Hmm I phoned up and moved the furthest away one, as not being able to drive, it was a logistical nightmare.

Coincidence about the dog as well! We have a 12 year old border collie cross belgian shepherd, who's on steroids for a skin condition caused by allergies - she's taken to weeing on the bathroom floor, which is off my blooming kitchen. I am sooo sick of cleaning the floor, especially as she then walks it out of the bathroom and across the kitchen every single time, so it ends up being a huge job every time. Either that or one of the boys has missed the laundry basket with their washing and that ends up getting wee'd on as well. Angry

Your week sounds like a complete nightmare. Hope you manage to squeeze in some time to yourself somewhere in the middle of all that.

madwomanintheattic · 03/10/2011 20:59

ah, these appointmetns are at the same clinic, but one at 8.30 and one at 11, and the kids are at different schools, so i can't even do the 'drop one off, collect one' in the middle. Grin

and, ha ha. we did have wee'd on laundry the other day. a real treat. (i'm looking forward to the new washing machine lol)

the dog's skin is much better though. she's also on omega 3 stuff on her (hypo-allergenic) food. it's worse than the blardy children!

moosemama · 03/10/2011 21:09

It doesn't always help if they're at the same clinic either does it. All it takes is for one clinic to be delayed and the other to be running on time and you end up running around the hospital trying to be in two places at once.

You're dog hasn't got mallasez pachydermitis has she? Ours has had it since she was rescued at 4 weeks old, apparently its an atopic reaction to a variety of allergies, including, dog food, house mites, grass, pollen and probably some others we don't know about.

She had to have an op on her ear earlier this year to remove a massive haematoma caused by worrying at it and shaking her head - her ear canals are so itchy, poor little thing. Up until then she had two perfectly pointy pricked-up ears, but now she has one permanently at half mast.

She has to have regular medicated baths and has cream for her ears and paws. She was at her best on the bones and raw food diet, in a house with no carpets downstairs, but that was before we moved here and we can't find one butcher who will supply bones in our stuck up little town, so she's had to go onto the dog food she reacts to least. Ooop north, we had a fantastic butcher that supplied us with an endless supply of free raw and meaty bones - more than enough to feed our three dogs - one of whom was massive and weighed almost nice stone. All we get down here is 'we aren't that kind of butcher's shop - we are specialists in quality meat'. Hmm

madwomanintheattic · 03/10/2011 22:01

no specific dx for the dog yet. Grin (bit like ds1 lol) just 'allergies'

apparently it's either food or environmental, but we won't know until next spring. Hmm something to do with recording skin/ scratching over a period of time, and because of the treatment she's on now, we won't know whether it's the steroids or the change in environment (it's about ot become balrdy cold) that fixed it.... or something....

so if it flares up again spring, it wa environemtnal, if it doesn't, it's food.

dh isn't convinced. at the off leash area she has a definite allergy to something - a pollen, or grass. she sneezes repetitively and bangs her nose on the floor until it bleeds. Sad but not all the time, which i suppose tends to the environmental, at least partially.

lol at 'we aren't that kind of burcher's shop' though. Grin

madwomanintheattic · 03/10/2011 22:03

that makes her sound like a delicate little thing. she's a massive chunky choc lab, not a chihuahua. Grin
