I have 6 stone + to lose and keep considering LighterLife...tell me the good/bad things about it. What does it cost? How does it fit into normal family life? How fast does weight come off? Does it stay off?

Please Grin

There is another thread about this further down with loads of helpful advice on it Smile

I've 6+stone too and have just emailed the counsellor [meep]

lilmamma · 17/04/2011 22:28

my daughter worked for a call company which dealed with them, and its really expensive, its hard to maintain and you need t drink a lot of water,it wouldn be suitable for a normal family etc,as its like shakes etc..

weight watchers would be better, and loosing the weight too quickly, you will end up with a lot of loose skin.yu should aim to loose between one and two pound a week, but at the beginning you will loose more than this.

good luck.

NorthernGobshite · 17/04/2011 22:30

I have never lost more than a stone with weight watchers.

Hello Smile. No experience personally but know plenty of women who've tried it. The weight does drop off at an alarming rate, the more weight you have to lose the quicker you tend to lose it. However, it's usually used for a special occasion and once you start eating food again some of the weight does creep back on. I'd look at it as a kickstart - lose a couple of stone in the first month to boost confidence then stick to good old healthy eating. IIRC it's £60 a week. Good luck to you Smile

NorthernGobshite · 17/04/2011 22:43

Have read scare stories about hair loss etc?

You don't need gimmicks - you need to change your lifestyle otherwise the weight will creep back ont there by eating like pigs every day - you just eat a little too much and exercise slightly too little.

I lost 3 stone by cutting out alcohol during the week, not snacking in the evening (except raw carrots) and taking regular exercise. I still eat all the same meals.

But you do need to be patient - it doesn't happen overnight. Smile

fortyplus · 17/04/2011 22:54

oops some text got deleted - it was supposed to say

You don't need gimmicks - you need to change your lifestyle otherwise the weight will creep back on - most obese people don't get there by eating like pigs every day - you just eat a little too much and exercise slightly too little.

BibiBelle · 18/04/2011 09:32

Northern I didn't loose any hair but then I have too much as it is and have to get it thinned out at the hairdressers !

I remember it was about £60

The water wasn't too difficult to do either, it just became habit and you could have sparkling or still. Don't drink it cold from the fridge as that made it harder.

fortyplus, there are reasons to kick start weight loss and a confidence boost can be a huge help.

NorthernGobshite · 18/04/2011 13:20

I think the idea of using it to kick start weight loss is a great idea.

If I could lose 2-3 stone I think I would be a lot less self conscious abou exercising - which I am really keen to start doing. I start a new job in summer and will be earning a lot more and its the first chance I have had to have spare money to be able to think about LighterLife.

fortyplus, well done for lsing the weight but its not always so easy for everyone.

didnt they have their adverts taken off the tv recently? due to very low cal intake (500 cals a day I think) Shock

NorthernGobshite · 18/04/2011 13:27

It is about 500 calories daily - they're open about that though, its not a secret. I plan to do research before going for it.

I lost 4 1/2 stone on it and I rate it for the counselling really. The LL philosophy is that if you are more than 3 st overweight you have a food addiction problem and they treat that. Counsellors give you lots of reading and guidance, and if you take it on board, you should change your attitude to food. I must say that I now am on top of my food issues.

The restricted eating takes some getting used to. My husband started to do some cooking (yay!) which was a big benefit. I went to business lunches, family meals, etc & took my allowed food and everyone was fine with that - including me! I went on holiday over Xmas and lost 10 lbs - took my food with me. I found taking eating out of social occasions was very enlightening. I was on it for 5 months to lose the weight. I have kept most of it off, but when I need to lose a bit, I go low carb - high veg. Good luck whatever you chose.

fortyplus · 19/04/2011 00:00

NorthernGobshite - I didn't say it was easy I said you have to change your lifestyle! Wink

BibiBelle · 19/04/2011 20:49

Moanranger - well done on tackling your food issues Smile

I went tonight, weighed, measured and now have my packs to start tomorrow [eek]

and it's now £72 a week Shock[thud]

NorthernGobshite · 19/04/2011 21:05

Oooh Bibibelle, let me know how you go. £72 is a shit load of money!

OP posts:
BibiBelle · 19/04/2011 21:09

aye it is. It's been 4 years since I first did it and I'm pretty sure it was £66 back then so I'm not sure why I was expecting it to remain at the same price.

There are new flavours etc. The theory remains the same but they're now doing it in 4wk stages which makes it all seem a little less daunting.

foxinthewoods · 19/04/2011 21:17

All the people I know who have been on it (for 6months at least) have put back on and need to go on it again.

NorthernGobshite · 19/04/2011 21:21

Bibi, how much did you lose the first time and why do you think you put the weight back on? Assuming you put it all back on?

OP posts:
BibiBelle · 19/04/2011 21:29

I lost 2.5 stone the first time and had to stop because I fell pregnant. I've been pregnant 3 time since. Had 2 babies, 11lb1oz and 9lb14oz inbetween as well as a MC at 15wks last year. Weight crept back on due to being pregnant/loosing my mum/being in chronic pain. I lost 30lbs last year but was grounded by the consultant due to complications with my hips/pelvis. They've finally given me a proper diagnosis I was given the all clear to excercise again on March 1st and joined Curves the same day. I want to shift some weight to lessen my pain and I think this is a way to do it Smile

NorthernGobshite · 19/04/2011 21:34

Thanks for sharing. Good luck x

i work for the NHS as part of a healthy lifestyle team (my main role is physical activity) I constantly get streams of people with BMIs greater than 30 and they all have the same old story. I've done ww, slimming world, celebrity slim, lighter life n i lost a stone or whatever stopped and piled more on. These gimmicky diets don't work long term as they don't teach you ANYTHING about healthy eating. So obviously once you finish it you put the weight back on and even more. They are just money making schemes that rip people off that want 'a quick fix'

BibiBelle · 22/04/2011 15:36

Thanks for sharing melliebobs - your words are encouraging Hmm

wonka · 03/05/2011 14:04

Cambridge is the same idea but £35- 45 a week depending on what you order, one to one consultaions rather than groups.
I've lost 2 stone and have almost two to go. (8 weeks|)
I plan to stick to slimming world for my maintenance.
It is about lifestyle change, but a rapid start really keeps you motivated.
I was hungry for about the first 3 days
Now great, stuggle with family picnics and miss white bread.
