piste how old is your DD then? My brother used to row and I remember one summer someone lent him an ergo so we ended up trying to fit it in the car to take home - it was a Ford Galaxy but still had to be taken apart as I recall, they're huge!

Would gym membership be any use or is that a bit crappy?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 12:50

LRD - thank you, she will be 14. She'd love gym membership but for round here she is too young unfortunately, i think you have to be 16+ but they do masses of land training through the school. Ergos are certainly big buggers. We made the mistake of saying if she could find one for free then she could have it, so she's been scouring free-cycle. She loves rowing, just heard this morning she has made it into the London Youth games team, she did trials a couple of weeks ago, but was young for the competition so we didn't hold out hope. She's away right now, but will delighted when she gets my text later!

Ergos themselves new are about £1000 mark, because it would have to be a fairly reasonable one. That's silly money, but also toooo big!

I'm thinking Jack Wills, maybe some earrings

OP posts:
JaneS · 12/04/2011 12:55

Wow, sounds as if she is one to watch then! I live near a river where rowers train and it always looks extremely hard-core - I used to meet them occasionally coming back from training when I went to catch the 7am train! Ouch!

I think Jack Wills and earrings might be the way forward. Grin

Anyway, I have a question (and the answer is not, please, a rowing machine!). All my weight sits around my stomach in an attractive sort of stretchy bag shape. I am absolutely rubbish at exercise and am forcing myself to go swimming atm as it's what I can stand, but it's probably not going to do anything for the Belly, is it? What can I do that will, do you think? And on a related note (sorry if TMI), why do sit-ups make me feel sick?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 12:59

Definitely an ergo!!

Bebejones does sit ups, she may be able to help you, but I do think swimming is very good for one's tum. My prob is not my tummy, it's my puffy side bits, but I think just generally losing weight will help them subside.

Or just wear those big control pants!

OP posts:
JaneS · 12/04/2011 13:02

I do love my control pants, they do a noble job.

Do you mind me asking what stroke it is that would do your tummy for swimming? I swim breast stroke as I have boobs that get too much of a pounding from front crawl, and I didn't think it was using any of those muscles. It'd be lovely if I'm wrong though! Smile

Otherwise I shall wait for Bebe to pop in and ask her advice.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 13:08

I think any swimming is good but imagine breastsroke is ideal!

OP posts:
JaneS · 12/04/2011 13:11

Oh, that's great! I shall feel extra-virtuous now.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 13:13

I go running these days and that nearly kills me but it has certainly changed my shape, and I think that it has helped my tummy and general front bit. My legs are better for it too. My iphone isn't cos I dropped it. Blush

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2011 17:28

the plank and kettle bells works well for tummys

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2011 17:29

had a lovely day with dc, out in sunshine but i ate a huge slab of carrot cake Blush

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 18:44

Carrot cake = 1 of your 5 a day, so that was good.

What does one do with a plank? That's what I call my DC - planks, when they are being less than sharp about stuff. If they are being really dim, I call them plankton. Obviously only in jest. Hmm

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2011 19:11

db calls his dc scrotes Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2011 19:13

and the plank you lie on floor, raise your self on fore arms and then on tiptoe and body/back/bum in striaght line

you can then walk the plank, which is moving one arm and opposite leg up (like the spotted dog)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 19:18

I truly snorted at 'scrotes!'

DD does planks for core strength.
I don't. I do
Lying down watching BL!!!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2011 19:19

he calls/teexts etc and asks how are the scrotes Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 19:22

That is very funny. But does he ever say to them.."You are such a scrote?"

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2011 19:32
