Lighter Life - Has anyone done it & kept the weight off?

I'm seriously considering doing this. I have about 4.5 stone to lose. Usual story. I am pretty goddamn greedy but when I put my mind to it I am capable of being strict. I lost 3 stone on weight watchers 9 years ago, but life was very different then.

I now am stuck at home in the evenings due to DH's work so normal weight loss clubs and exercise classes are not possible.

I also think the quick start of these type of diets could be such a boost.

However I know 3 people who have done this. Weight fell off no problem but 2 of them put it all back on again (and more).

I should add that a healthy eathing approach has just never worked for me. It's like either feast or famine.

Any thoughts?

Morning all. Hope everyone is still going strong. I had a good meeting this week (at last Grin), it was quite helpful about thought processes etc. 3lbs off so average weight loss. I'm now 2lbs off losing 2 and 1/2 stone and 3lbs off the next stone threshold of overall weight which is really spurring me on this week. Am seriously counting down to the end of this stage now!

Great to hear other people's success stories. I'm not all convinced I will manage to keep the weight off - will have to make conscious decisions for a long long time!

Verso · 03/11/2010 10:58

Hello, hotcross. I've been worrying about keeping the weight off too, but I'm going to do the full RTM as that seems to be key. I'm only halfway through but have started getting compliments at work, which is lovely! I've lost 2st exactly so far. Quite unbelievable in such a short space of time, but brilliant. I thought I would need a few weeks of Developers after Foundation but now I'm not sure. How are you setting your goal? I want to be a BMI of 22-23 at the end.

I'm glad to hear you had a good meeting. I think I've been very lucky as mine have generally been really helpful. I definitely think the CBT/TA is what sets this diet apart for me.

Verso · 03/11/2010 11:00

P.S. Is there any way you can correlate height, weight and size? I have this dream of being a size 12 once my BMI is in the middle of the "normal" range but I've no way of knowing if that's realistic or not. As a guide, I started at probably about a size 22 (but majorly in denial and squeezing myself into size 18s Blush) and am now wearing a very loooooooooose 18 - probably almost ready to buy some 16s. Exciting!!

IamSoStupid · 03/11/2010 11:16

hello ladies

I wonder if you can help me

I did Cambridge about 3 years ago, lost 4+ stone then it began to creep back on and I'm now back to where I was

Do the counsellors take back failures? I so want to do it again but am anxious that my counsellor will laugh in my face and show me the door Sad

I loved that being in control feeling and all the energy I had

3HotCrossBuns · 03/11/2010 12:00

Hi IAmSoStupid (you're not, by the way!!) - we have several returners in our group so not a problem I don't think.

Hi Verso, that's great, so exciting to think about buying new gorgeous small clothes! I'm not really setting a goal as such but I'm just seeing where I get to at the end of this 14weeks. That will be fine for me - I started as a v tight size 16 and am now a small 14 I think. Not been shopping yet. My BMI is just over 26 (was nearly 32). My LLC has a chart with the height/weight ratios showing the relevant BMI so I need to have a look at that to work out where I should end up.

But my problem is that I can't seem to stop the odd mouthfuls of real food during the day at the moment, so naughty! I'm sure that's what put the weight on me in the first place (plus the 3 DCs in 4 yrs!) so it's a habit I've really got to break - and why I'm worried the weight will creep back on. It's worse than giving up smoking!

IamSoStupid · 03/11/2010 12:10

thank you 3HCBs

good luck with your weightloss journey x

Verso · 03/11/2010 13:17

iamso there is a returner in my group too. You would be VERY welcome, and no one will make you feel like a "failure". They are more likely to acknowledge how difficult it is to make the decision to go back, and give you lots of support. Best of luck. If you do decide to do LL, I wish you every success!

Hotcross when I say shopping, I mean dabbling in Matalan and Tesco... will wait to buy posher things when I know I'm done Grin. Still can't quite believe I might be able to get into a size 16 again soon. Haven't been that size for YEARS (apart from very briefly after DD1 but it soon crept on again).

IamSoStupid · 03/11/2010 16:30

thank you so much

have gotten up the courage to ring, have an appointment on Friday morning

You have been very kind and supportive x

Verso · 04/11/2010 08:08

Well done, *iam"!! Good for you! Keep us posted!

NotAnotherChinHair · 04/11/2010 17:14

Hello everyone! I've been soooooooo busy. I seem to have stopped losing weight, I'm quite mifed this week. My bmi is now 23.5 so one more week and I'm going to start Route to Management. I feel I should still lose 2 or 3 Kg more but this is a cost based decision. Do you know i I'll still be able to lose weight whilst on RTM?

Verso · 04/11/2010 19:12

My LLC said it's usual to lose about one more stone on RTM, so they encourage people to switch once they get a stone away from their goal. Good for you on your BMI! You may have stopped losing weight because you're at a healthy weight already.

I had some excitement today. I went to Sainsbury's and got a pair of trousers and a pair of jeans IN A SIZE 16!!! Shock

I can't believe it!!!

NotAnotherChinHair · 04/11/2010 19:17

Congratulations! There's no better feeling, is there??

Verso · 04/11/2010 19:21

It's amazing! Only a few weeks ago all my 18s were seriously tight (including the Planet ones, which are really 20s if I'm honest). Brilliant! Brilliant! Sooooo happy!

3HotCrossBuns · 05/11/2010 13:50

NotAnother - does that mean you are going onto RTM before the end of your 14wks of Abstintance? Or have you been doing Developers? Do you have to have a BMI of 25 or under to go onto RTM? I just assumed that I could transfer at the end of the 14wks anyway? I've got another 5 and a bit weeks to go and my BMI is 26.3 so nearly there anyway.

Verso - good to hear that we will continue to lose weight on RTM anyway - I was hoping so! I've only another stone to go to reach "goal", but I think I will need to lose a bit more than that to cover for the fact that when we start eating carbs again, apparently you can gain up to 7lbs re-stocking the body's carb energy store. So pleased for you getting some clothes in a "new" size, it's an amazing feeling and must be helping to keep you motivated.

I'm missing my meeting on Sunday as we are visiting the in-laws. I'm hoping for a big drop by the time 2 weeks comes round! Hope everyone has a good weekend and gets to see some fireworks!

x

NotAnotherChinHair · 06/11/2010 15:41

I have been doing LL Lite so I am able to go to rtm after 6 weeks. I can't keep spending all this money every week; I am still hopeful I can shed the last few pounds on rtm.

Verso · 14/11/2010 14:14

Is anyone still on this thread? I've lost 35lb as of Friday - v happy! Still got a way to go but feeling very positive about achieving it... How's everyone else doing?

3HotCrossBuns · 15/11/2010 15:17

I'm still here. Well done Verso, 35lbs is a terrific weight loss. Do you recognise yourself in the mirror?? I had my weigh in yesterday and have lost 40lbs in 10 weeks (nice round numbers! Wink) and am thrilled. 2 lbs to go to hit the 3st mark! The "therapy" in the meetings is finally beginning to make some sense to me too, am hopeful that this has been a life changing diet, not just a weight loss one and the bad eating habits will have gone...famous last words....

Verso · 19/11/2010 09:49

Weirdly, I actually feel I look more like "me" than I did when I was so big. It's nice to see I still look like I used to underneath - I was worried I'd just look old(er) and haggard once I lost the weight.

40lb is a fantastic loss, HotCross! You must be so pleased. Have you bought any new clothes? I got some size 16 trousers from Sainsburys but they are too short Blush. I was so excited they fit round my tummy/bottom that it didn't occur to me to check the length! Doh!

Verso · 19/11/2010 09:51

P.S. Really excited that my stepmother-in-law and her partner are coming down in three weeks' time and I've managed to resist telling them about the diet so they've no idea. I last saw them at my birthday party in the summer when I was at my biggest!!

3HotCrossBuns · 22/11/2010 14:35

That will be a fun visit Verso. They will be completely shocked! I've just seen my dad for the first time since starting this diet and hadn't told him about it. Funny though, he didn't really say anything! Just that I didn't need to be on a diet as I was looking "just fine"!! Men!

Are you still sticking completely to the rules? I have had some mad days over the last few weeks when we have been away for the weekend or really busy and the foodpacks have gone wrong! I'm trying to make the diet "work for me" iyswim but I'm worried about re-gaining the weight if I don't stick to it religiously? Oh well, cross that bridge when I come to it I guess...

I'm now into week 12 but missed my weigh in yesterday so don't know where I am up to. But the end of this stage is in sight. RTM will be harder I think, well more complicated! At least I can eat the protein and veg bit of my xmas dinner though!

Hope you have a good week

Verso · 29/11/2010 15:37

I've completely stuck to the rules. I'm a bit of an all-or-nothing person so am too scared to venture "off piste". Hope you're back on track again now.

At my weigh in on Friday I'd lost a total of 44lb since the beginning. Very pleased with that, though still a scarily long way to go. How big was I? Shock

Verso · 05/12/2010 18:01

Anyone still here? 45lb as of this Friday. Ooh, a whole pound lol.

Hope everyone's ok!

calaminecovered · 05/12/2010 22:05

Reading this tonight has really helped me! I am on week 3, lost 10lbs in first two weeks and have my weigh in tomorrow. This week has been really hard and was seriously thinking about giving up, but am now going to persevere. Thanks ladies!

Verso · 08/12/2010 14:50

How did you get on at your weigh in, calamine?
