Hi

I don’t know what I’m asking for really. Solidarity?! Someone to tell me it’s normal?
My starting weight was (embarrassingly) 23st 5
and 10 weeks later I’m at 22st 5. I know, I know, you don’t want to lose weight too fast, especially at such a high starting weight, or else you’ll end up with the worst loose skin ever and looking like a zombie etc etc. I guess I just thought it’d be a little bit more than a stone in 10 weeks??
Especially given that when you’re extremely obese like me, you can often end up losing/gaining a stone without even changing anything or even noticing. I can’t tell you how many times over the years that the GP has said “Oh you’ve lost a stone since I last saw you” when I’ve not changed anything and then of course, it’s gone straight back on by the time I’m back there again. Same has happened re: gaining a stone.
Yet here I am, barely eating and paying money I can barely afford and ultimately trying so, so hard for 10 looooong weeks, yet I’ve only lost a stone? It’s making me so, so sad.
At this slow & painful rate it’s going to take me 5 years (& £18,000!) to get to a healthy weight…🥺

Anyone else?
Please tell me it gains some momentum when you’re further along?!

Thanks!

@DoubleBusy2026 You sound very similar to another poster who posted recently, and I wonder if you’re expecting the medication to do most of the heavy lifting for you.

From what you’ve described, your relationship with food sounds like it could be quite disordered. If you want to give yourself the best chance of success, you will need to work on this alongside the medication. Rather than focusing on your parents or WW2, try to focus on what you can do now to move forward.

Start by educating yourself about nutrition: calories, macros, and how to work out appropriate calorie deficit, protein and fibre targets for your needs. Then think about how to meet those targets consistently throughout the day, rather than relying on one binge meal.

It won't be easy, start maybe with a protein yoghurt for breakfast, a small bowl of soup with lentils and meat for lunch, then a calorie counted protein focused main meal in the evening until your body gets used to eating regularly again.

Keep an honest, detailed record of what you eat and drink, including oils, snacks, treats and anything else that can easily be overlooked.

Track your progress consistently. If you’re not seeing the results you expect, review your tracking, perhaps try to drop calories a little further, but not too much. If you do this and still don't lose weight speak to your doctor. Bringing your food records/app will help them to offer appropriate support.

Huh? I’m not focusing on WW2! That was context for readers as to why I was raised not eating during the day! What a thoroughly bizarre excerpt to take from my long OP…..!

I’m fully aware that the jab does not do ANY “heavy lifting” and is merely an appetite suppressant! I’m 42 not 18! I realise you mean well but I think you’ve massively misread my posts and are making some wild assumptions….!

Also, I don’t have disordered eating at all, just an exceptionally & shockingly slow metabolism. So slow that if I eat much of anything, it can be 8 hours before I’m hungry again (which is probably as a result of being raised eating only once per day).

A lot of my initial weight gain was from prescribed steroids after serious illness. My diet is actually quite healthy. I wrote a (honest) 7 day food diary for my GP about 6 months ago and he was fairly impressed by what I eat and was visibly shocked that someone my size ate so much greens/salad and veg! I don’t think he believed me so I pulled my phone out and showed him a photo on my phone of my VegTrug full of lettuce plants and one of my greenhouse which at the time, was full of tomato & cucumber plants! God I miss summer…..

My biggest problem is how much milk I drink (working on it) and my ridiculously slow metabolism.

You don't give your age but going off how you describe your parents' upbringing I'm guessing you yourself must be at least 50+ unless you were a very later life baby!

It's definitely harder the older we get, particularly as women (I'm 54). I actually think, particularly given you say you have a disability which limits movement, you've done really well to lose over a lb a week.

The age thing adds to why you don't want to lose fast. Not about skin but muscle strength and bone density. You haven't given much detail of your diet but the more you can prioritise protein over carbs the better.

It may well be that you're one of those who does need to be on a high dose to fully feel the effects, that's something only you can tell by how easy or hard you're finding it to eat less (rather than by how much you've lost).

Later life baby as I’m 42.
Today I have had to ‘eat’ my words as I’ve just started with severe stomach cramps and ever since literally an hour or so after I posted this thread, I’ve been almost as nauseous as I get with migraines! Some of you will know exactly the type of nausea I’m referring to. I never get either of these so I’m presuming it’s the Mounjaro. I wonder if WeGovy might be a better bet….?

Wegovy has side effects too as you go up the doses, you just have to ride it out.
I don't actually think there is anything wrong with what is going on for you. You've developed a 700 calorie a day deficit without trying which is great, and if you continue you'll lose plenty more.
