Giving up MJ due to side effects

Frenchjamisbest · 08/10/2026 21:29

I have been MJ for five days. Every day I've had worse stomach issues than the last. I am now spending all day feeling really unwell. Not nausea but stomach discomfort and indigestion, discomfort. Anything I eat makes me feel awful.

I am going on holiday on Tuesday and don't want it ruined by feeling ill . I hardly slept last night as my stomach was so bad.

Has anyone else given up at this point? The gas and stomach upset is horrendous.

I gave up after two weeks. Dreadful side effects for me, too, including insomnia, diarrhea, and panic attacks alongside nausea.

I am considering giving the tablets a go.

Oh that's a shame! I was going to try the tablets but already had a pen I'd bought months ago in the fridge. I'm delighted with the weight loss but not sure I can endure the awful stomach discomfort, especially on holiday. Yesterday was awful. I went to bed with a hot water bottle and woke in the night with stomach pains.
Basically I am losing weight because I can't eat.

Foundayo is a tablet GLP1 manufactured by Lilly who also make Mounjaro. It's a different medication and is less effective than Mounjaro, but also cheaper. Just another option if it turns out that you are too sensitive to Mounjaro and do end up stopping.

The Mounjaro will be half out of your system by 7 days or so since your last injection, and fully out of your system after about 30 days. Side effects should start to lessen from now onwards if you don't take another dose.

Op this is incorrect, there is no glp in foundayo, you can google to confirm, as said uo thread, people seem to assume it’s a glp as it’s made by el Lilly, it is not, it’s a totally different medication,

anyway, if this is getting worse it is highly feasible you actually are ill for another reason, ie food poisoning a virus, gall stones etc and it’s not the drug, if it continues I woukd see a gp urgently before holiday,

its an assumption peiple make that if fhey get ill when they take it it must be the drug, but we still get ill anyway, you could have as said gall stones or something and its unrelated,

I think it's far too much of a coincidence that it's only happened since I went on MJ !

@Wildgoat no need to google, here is the Foundayo site from the manufacturer Eli Lilly,

https://foundayo.lilly.com/

As you can see from the information on this site, Foundayo is a GLP1 receptor agonist. What you perhaps are thinking of is that it is not a peptide-based GLP1 like the injections are. It is a small-molecule non-peptide which makes it more suitable as a tablet than Mounjaro.

Ah ok yes maybe..

It really does vary for everyone. I couldn't tolerate Wegovy it made me incredibly ill, but MJ am OK if I take peppermint and eat small regular meals- so I went back on MJ quite recently. In your situation I would leave it for the holiday then reassess when you get back.

Was your pen still well in date?

Yes. I tried to eat yogurt and berries this morning. Managed two mouthfuls. Tried to eat some soup and managed two mouthfuls of that. My stomach is okay now, it seems to really ramp up in the evening and overnight. I'm losing about a pound a day.
Someone mentioned avoiding cruciferous veg so maybe that's the issue. I was eating kale and broccoli

I also had terrible vomiting and diarrhoea.

Eventually stopped completely after a few months and regained everything plus another 10kg!

I restarted in July on 1.25mg (30 clicks of a 2.5 pen) I take a dose of imodium most days and occasional cyclizine to stop vomiting/nausea.

I seem to be tolerating this ok and am now back to my previous start weight. I just accept that it's going to be slower for me and that MJ is just giving me a little help, rather than getting rid of food noise completely.

Tonight I feel fine . I think it's worn off, and now I don't know whether to do jab 2 tomorrow

I’d bit do 2.5 I’d maybe do 1.25 and see how you feel,

Wildgoat · 09/10/2026 21:21

Maybe also the veg had something to do with it, upsetting your system,

FormerFatty · 09/10/2026 21:23

I don’t blame you for giving up OP.

I was so lucky as I went all the way to 15mg and had not a single side effect. My friends are all the same. It isn’t worth it if it makes you feel shite.

BalakayAARon · 09/10/2026 21:29

I agree that your choice of foods while adapting to this medication may have been the issue. Among other things, digestion is slowed so cruciferous veg releasing gases in large quantities may not have been wise.

I suggest you have a break over your holiday, return and take a half dose then see how you go. Good luck.

Will that work though? If I take a break can i just get back to it? I find the whole dosing thing a nightmare . I'll have to watch a video of how to do the next dose. I don't understand the click thing. When did I did dose 1 I didn't know you have to keep turning and turning it to get dose 2. I thought I'd done something wrong. I wound it back to zero and then back up to one . I wonder if I messed up the first dose now.

Can someone give me an idiots guide ? How do I do a half dose and if not how do I do the second dose?

BalakayAARon · 09/10/2026 22:05

You are on the lowest dose, so as long as you were prescribed legitimately it should be fine for you to restart on the same (or lower) dose.

I'm not sure what you have taken from your description. Do you want to post a photo of your pen with the lid removed? Is it possible that you took a double dose by mistake?

I understand that lots of the pharmacies have videos online/ YouTube of how to use the pen.

Absolutely don't confuse yourself with trying to take a half dose if you don't know how to use the pen correctly. (But, basically a regular full dose is 60 clicks of the pen, until it reaches 1. When people take a half dose, they count up to 30 clicks and inject from that point.)

Wildgoat · 09/10/2026 22:12

Op it’s very Simple

click the needle on,
turn it two clicks
push the stopper, this is priming , liquid should come out.
then turn it the full clicks till it stops,
insert it into your injection site
press the stopped down,

fulk dose is 60 clicks

to do a half dose yoh just turn it 30 clicks

but it could have been the veg, you didn’t mention the kale and broccoli till very late in your thread, do you think it was trapped wind?

are yoh drinking enough water, 3 litres a day? Also take a daily psyllium husk , with a litre of water in the morning before anything else, psyllium keeps everything moving if taken with water,

I watched the video but didn't realise I had to keep turning the pen for so long. I'll post a photo of it tomorrow.
