Did they alter your progesterone dose or method when you started wli?

If you're on wli and hrt with oral progesterone, has your gp made any changes? There are concerns that the slower stomach emptying may reduce absorption, but no evidence.

British menopause society suggest upping the dose when you first start and when you change dose but don't say what level it should be. Or they say switch to patches or coil.

Been on wli for 4 months and have never really noticed my progesterone (none of the side effects others report), I worry it's not working.

I have been on patches for 4 weeks. Switched from gel and tabs. Its not been great for me at all. I am going to book another appt to go back and change back I think you can up progesterone dose for a while.

Forgot to add i have adenomyosis so my womb lining really needs protecting. GP advised change

Calyx72 · 17/08/2026 17:14

I asked my GP about it because of a thread on here and he upped me to 2 progesterone for a couple of weeks then told me to go back down to 1.
when I went up to 5mg I asked about upping again but he said not necessary

Been on HRT including oral progesterone for years and have been on MJ for nearly 10 months with no issues.

WeAllHaveWings · 17/08/2026 19:08

I start HRT after Mounjaro, and before the guidelines came out in April 25 (or around that time). As I was on a stable mounjaro dose and Everol 50 / 100mg Utrogestan it wasn't necessary and I had no side effects.

When I upped to Everol 75 / 100mg Utrogestan the spotting didn't settle so APN upped my Utrogestan to 200mg saying for some women the 100mg isn't enough for Everol 75, but also could be impacted by Mounjaro too. I've recently increased to Evorel 100, so being monitored to see if the Utrogestan 200mg is enough.

The online pharmacy told me that the progesterone should be inserted vaginally rather than taken orally.

SunCloudRain · 17/08/2026 20:41

Thanks all. It's so unclear, but I guess they've got no data.

I don't want the coil, patches might be OK but current regime seems fine so I'd rather not mess with it.

I only take a low dose of wegovy and am not moving up so maybe it's OK. I will talk to my GP but unlikely they will have a clue.

I insert my utrogestan vaginally as I couldn’t tolerate the side effects orally so that’s definitely an option

Really? Do they dissolve then? The coated pills?

HelenDenver · 17/08/2026 22:22

My GP (who also prescribes my MJ) suggests double progesterone for four weeks each time you change dose

Yes mine told me the same. I think weight loss specialising pharmacies are overstepping their scope telling patients to follow off label practices for something they don’t prescribe or specialise in. They should be directing patients to their Dr that prescribes their HRT.

Wonder what the GPhC would make of it?

Yes mine too but I stayed on 2.5mg so didn’t need to up the dose.

Nothing I suspect. GPs regularly advise this. Pharmacists are there for advice re drug interactions

I think the data regarding the mounjaro is enough to make a judgement. There is a risk of womb thickening do i guess

Exactly the same as mine.

Yep totally dissolve. Yes it’s off license but it’s a very common way of doing it and it meAns you avoid the groggy side effects
