Athletic performance is finally coming back after two weeks wince my last dose

So I was on it for 2 months to undo some side effects of HRT. I lost around 20lbs (10kg), but also noticed that my increased HR made it very difficult to keep my normal pace when running. This is my second long run after my last dose (2.5mg) and I’m back to a pace I would have expected. I feel my HR is still a bit on the higher end, but nothing too bad.

It will be interesting to see how maintenance goes, as well as my running metrics.

Glad I took it, but also glad it’s over ;)

Interesting. My hr is higher than expected and I didn't know why

Apparently it’s a well known side effect

Wegovy and saxenda apparently cause a modest rise in resting HR - 2-4bpm. Not sure i understand how that impact athletic performance though? Do you not just allow for that extra few beats when monitoring LT trends?

Increased heart rate means you cannot push as hard. It’s just as simple as that. It also makes running more “sluggish”.

Ah, even at just a few bpm? That’s useful to know !

Well for me it was a 10% increase so not nothing!

If it’s that much higher shouldn’t you seek medical advice? 2-4 bpm is the safe/norm a 10% suggests its indicative of something that needs investigating?

Not really! It’s only because I have a fairly low resting heart rate (below 50 thanks to my training) that it’s still within “guidelines”

How much do u have left to lose and what is your current BMI? Perhaps that’s a factor?

AnonyMumAuDHD · 02/08/2026 16:09

Ah ok. So 10% is still around 5bpm? For lost people RHR is around 75-80, so 2-5beats increase is only 5%.

Mine is naturally low also due to hypothyroidism 55ish.

BMI is not necessarily the best guideline for me… if I went by it I’d still need to be 6-8kg to be a “healthy”
weight for my ethnicity.

I had this initially, but it settled after about 6 weeks.
Long term its helped me exercise as blood sugar not going up and down.
