Has anyone on HRT had bleeding return with weight loss injections?

Can anyone here using HRT tell me if the weight loss jabs caused their periods to return.

I have my first pen which I'm thinking of using Saturday. But I'm also on HRT, patches and oral progesterone. From what I've read online, due to the appetite suppression and the tablet not working through the gut so effectively, it could stop protecting my womb lining and start bleeding again.

Could anyone confirm if this has happened to them.

I shared some links on this thread.

your wli provider should have told you to speak to your HRT prescriber as you should increase your progesterone or swap to a non oral progesterone

The issue is that it takes longer to absorb the progesterone as everything is slowed in the gut when you take GPL1.
You can take your progesterone vaginally which bypasses the problem, or you double up on Progesterone every time you increase your GLP1 strength.
Lots of info on the Menopause society website.
Personally I’ve never had any breakout bleeding due to GLP1 in the two year I’ve been taking it with HRT.

Nope, not a dicky bird. Luckily I read and research or I'd be non the wiser. I'll call my surgery tomorrow and get an appointment with my HRT nurse.

Thank you, I'll go and have a read.

I had the same issue last month and was sent for an Ultrasound (results ok), luckily I have now read this and will ask for my HRT to be altered.

I've lost 6 stone on Mounjaro and HRT with no bleeding. I'm on oral progesterone and had no idea it might cause issues.

Been on MJ for 9 months now and also on oral progesterone. I’ve not had any issues with it, all good.

Nanda66 · 08/07/2026 21:49

I did for the first couple of weeks and then it was fine. No issues since.

Belladog1 · 08/07/2026 22:48

But did you increase your progesterone or keep it at the existing levels?

I have finally got my HRT sorted with no symptoms anymore. I'm kinda loathe to muck around with it, especially as I hope not to be on the jabs forever

Was it a heavy bleed or an annoyance bleed? I bleed when I change my HRT, but its very light.

I kept it at existing level of one tablet a night. I was advised by my HRT doctor that if I needed to (breakthrough bleeding etc) then I should take 2 tablets each evening for 4 weeks and then go back to one tablet. Especially if I went up a dose. But I didn’t have any issues and I’ve stayed on 2.5mg the whole time anyway.

@Belladog1 unfortunately once you start WLI you are already "mucking around with it" as the absorption of progesterone is impacted as you have found out with your bleed. Also fat stores estrogen, less fat, then less estrogen and for some people that can also result in HRT needing tweaked. I have another review appointment at GP next week to increase my estrogen dose for the second time since significant weight loss.

The aim is to ensure your uterus remains adequately protected and maintain a thin endometrial lining while your body adjusts to WLI initiation or each change in WLI dosing.

I kept the progesterone at the same level and it was a moderate bleed, if it had continued I would have gone to the doctor but it stopped after a couple of weeks.

Thank you everyone. I have an appointment with my HRT nurse in 12 days time, so I will have to be patient and wait until I have consulted with her. I wish Voy had said something when I applied as I had to state I was on HRT and list my medication. If I hadn't been researching and reading everything to make an informed choice - I would be non the wiser.
