Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy tablets for maintenance: where to start?

Hi, I am thinking about swapping from mounjaro to the wegovy pill when my stores of mounjaro run out. I have recently reduced down to 5mg as I am in maintenance. I know the wegovy pill is not as effective as mounjaro or wegovy injection but is a little cheaper.

Does everyone start on lowest dose of the wegovy pill and move up after 4 weeks like with mounjaro? Or do you start at slightly higher if already on mounjaro? I am not sure what to do for the best. I believe there are more health risks with wegovy compared to mounjaro. Just wondering if anyone in a similar predicament to me? What has helped you decide?

this is what Oushk are suggesting their customers do. But when questioned they said that is based on minimising side effects not on effectiveness - then said they couldn't give guidelines or any advice on how they would compare on effectiveness.

There was a link/table on reddit which compared effectiveness between the medications, I think for Glycemic Control control, I'll try to find it.

The table is showing therapeutic doses of oral semaglutide Rybelsus (same drug/tablet as Wegovy) for people with diabetes, but the difference compared with the injectable form is quite significant. I'm not sure how that will translate to weight maintenance, but it would make me a little nervous.

Especially since, after the price increase, quite a few people switched from Mounjaro to semaglutide injections (more effective than the tablets) and found they weren't nearly as effective for them as Mounjaro had been. Personally, if my driver was financial, I'd be more inclined to reduce my Mounjaro dose further and stretch a pen over 6–8 weeks to save money, rather than switch from 5mg Mounjaro to tablets.

Good luck whatever you decide, and keep us updated if you do decide to give it a try.

Thanks @WeAllHaveWings that is really helpful, my motivation is somewhat financial but also wish to transition from injections as my husband was keen for me to stop and I told him I had finished. The reality is I have 2 pens hidden in the fridge and about to order another 5mg to maintain my prescription dose.

My plan is to do 1 pen at 5mg then make my second pen last 6 weeks then either try the pill at 5mg equivalent or option 2 or try to manage on 2.5mg (using 5mg to get 8 weeks use.) The pills are less effective(but more discreet) I just wish they were cheaper.

Would you have any luck convincing him that obesity is now classed as a chronic and recurring disease and maintenance treatment is necessary for your long term health? My husband would fold under that argument, as obviously he should see my health as a priority……

Use the good old blood pressure tablets analogy, you don’t stop them when your blood pressure is normalised by them.

If you can stretch a 5mg pen out to 6-8 weeks the costs are not too bad for the ongoing health benefits.

Good luck whatever you decide.
