Weight Loss not as expected on 7.5mg Mounjaro

Has anyone moved up to 7.5mg and found that their weight plateaued? I started mid March and have lost 14kg overall which is great but it has very much stalled since moving up to 7.5mg. I also changed provider moving from 5mg to 7.5mg, am sure that this can't be a factor (but in my head I am saying its not the same product!) Anyway its time to reorder and just thinking of whether to stay the same, move back down or go up.

What was your reasoning for increasing the dose? Had the suppression decreased on 5mg? Did the stall start then? How long have you been on 7.5mg? It could be that you need a bit longer to build up the increased dose in your system. Or maybe you need to look at what you are eating and see if you can reduce the calories.

SilenceInside · 04/07/2026 10:13

Why would you go back down and take less medication if it's not working on 7.5mg? Surely either stay on 7.5mg or go up to 10. Presumably it's been 4 weeks on 7.5mg with no weight lost, it isn't a very long time. If you are still getting the effects of the medication and you are definitely not eating more than you were before then I would just wait it out and probably get another 7.5mg.

Mysticmaiden · 04/07/2026 12:04

Have you looked into your food and tracking what you eat? I use myfitnesspal app and www.tdeecalculator.net to work out my deficit. When you lose weight, you need a smaller tdee or calories to maintain, so your intake needs to adjust at the same time especially to lose.
I lost consistently every week in 15 months, apart from 2 weeks of not tracking on my birthday (19 dec)+Xmas week and a weeks work trip. The rest did that by tracking, keeping hydrated, eating higher protein, lower carb and kept to a deficit. Any exercise you can do will help burn extra calories too. I actually needed to go upto 15mg and 2.5mg did nothing for me, 5mg only lasted 5 weeks, the rest were similar wore off after 7 weeks so if my diet wasn't strict I wouldn't have lost what I did - 4st 5lbs in 15 months which was not easy at starting 13st and 5ft 3!

Thank you for your replies, I guess I was happy with the weightloss on 5mg but it had slowed down so thought 7.5mg would start it back up to what it was but Ihaven't seen that kick start.
I am definitely eating less and exercising more.
@Mysticmaiden did you go up every month, or how long did it take you to get up to 15mg?

Stalls are normal with ANY type of weight loss. The body is trying to hold on hard to its weight. I stalled for 4 months at one point.

I would go up a dosage as that’s literally what you’re supposed to do on this medication.

eleanorwish · 05/07/2026 08:42

I’m on 15mg, I remember that 7.5 didn’t do much for me, I tried for 2 months and then had to go up to 10.

Itshotinherebutainttakingoffmyclothes · 05/07/2026 08:43

How much weight are you losing on average over the last few weeks? Slow weight loss it’self isn’t a bad thing.

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/07/2026 08:48

This is a good opportunity to just pause and assess.

  • you’ve lost 14kg, have you recalculated your TDEE and calorie allowance, with that big of a loss you may now need less calories to maintain weightloss
  • are you drinking plenty of fluids
  • are you doing exercise that support muscle retention and improves your metabolism
  • is your diet balanced with a good mix of protein, fibre, good fats and complex carbs
  • are you getting enough sleep. Poor sleep changes your hormone levels and can prevent weight loss

It may be that 7.5mg is the wrong dose for you and moving up is needed, but first make sure that the other things are right.

OneNoisySnail · 05/07/2026 12:16

How long have you been stalled for and is it a complete stall or are you still losing a little just really slowly?

I try and stay on a dose for as long as possible and don't count it as a stall until there's no loss for around 6 weeks

Honestly I would try and kick start it in other ways before going up because you will run out of going up options eventually. Try a few high calorie days and then go back to deficit. Make sure you are in a solid deficit (surprisingly easy not to be!) And increase your exercise. I just broke a stall by adding in 20 minutes of swimming every day on top of my usual workouts and lost 2.2lbs last week

AgnesMcDoo · 05/07/2026 12:25

If you are not getting good suppressive the you go up a dose not down.

ElsieJay · 05/07/2026 12:29

Excellent advice from @InfoSecInTheCity .

Are you a qualified medical researcher or just someone out to make a quick buck?

DottyMcDiet · 05/07/2026 13:00

I’ve lost 40kg over a year and haven’t yet gone over 6.5mg. I totally agree with @InfoSecInTheCity you need a good look at beyond the medication.

I’ve stalled several times and am in a plateau right now but I know I’ve stopped logging every thing I eat and my exercise efforts have been minimal so I’ll need to address that before altering my dose.

Only once I’ve done all that will I consider going up to 7.5mg.

Good luck!

I did 1 pen on 2.5, 1 of 5mg, but six weeks of 5mg with 1 week counting clicks from 7.5mg pen, 2 pens of 7.5mg, 2 of 10, 2 of 12.5 then when I got to 15mg in sept 25 11 months after I started mj at bmi 25, it defeated me! I always used the extra dose from each pen. Most of the pens lasted 7-8 weeks before wearing off and when it wore off I was ravenous, lots of food noise, no suppression or satiety. On 10 and 12.5 my prescriber advised to take every 5 days which helped restart suppression, so would recommend trying that.
I was prediabetic when I started and wasnt aware so hadn't changed lifestyle and always wondered if that's why the doses didn't work as well on me.
I did see a big difference in going low carb and higher protein in terms of weight loss, satiety and suppression.

hipposcanweartutus · 05/07/2026 16:09

Assuming you have worked out your TDEE? You need to combine the jab with a change of life style and food intact. The jab is a tool to suppress your appetite not a miracle cure. I used MJ for 6 months and never went above 2.5 but stopped due to cost. Since the beginning of April last year, I have lost 6 stone 4lb by changing my diet and my lifestyle. I lost the first 3 stone while on the jab and the rest I have lost without it. I never increased my dose because 2.5 gave me enough suppression to take control. I still use a calorie app and I’m still on 1400 calories a day but am going to start increasing my daily allowance once I get back from my holiday as I’m at target and am happy where I am. MJ helped me the first few months but I’m glad that I started calorie counting as it has taught me the value of food and how not to waste. Calories

Annex · 05/07/2026 20:15

I've ordered 7.5 again, I have lost whilst I've been on it but not to the extent I had hoped, its the first time plateauing and I need to get used to it - I am eating much less and definitely more protein less carbs and exercising more so I do feel a lot better in myself.

I’m not sure your post makes much sense, firstly yes it’s rhe same product as long as from a legit pharmacy. Secondly the drugs don’t melt the fat off, they enable you to diet. If you’re not losing you’re eating to maintenance, as you get lighter it takes less cals to fuel your body, so you need to keep decreasing to lose weight.

Absolute rubbish! A ‘stall’ in weight loss is her maintaining her weight - burning the same amount of calories that she is consuming - to continue losing weight she needs to be burning more calories than consuming. With or without weight loss medication that how it works! Calories in v calories out.
weight gain = eating more calories than using
weight maintenance = same calorie in as out
weight loss = less calories in more calories out
if people’s bodies held on to fat while being in calorie deficit people wouldn’t die from anorexia ect! Think about it!

liquoriceallsortfamily · 05/07/2026 20:41

I never lost anything on the whole journey till the last dose of 7.5mg so you are doing well xx

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2026 21:06

singlemomofthree - not as simple as that, there’s something called ‘metabolic adaptation’

when people lose a lot of weight:

  • Their resting metabolic rate falls.
  • They unconsciously move less (less fidgeting, fewer spontaneous movements).
  • Exercise becomes more efficient, so burns fewer calories.
  • Appetite hormones increase, making it easier to eat slightly more.
So someone who was losing weight on 1,500 kcal/day may later maintain on exactly the same intake because their energy expenditure has fallen. It feels like the body is “holding on”, but what’s actually happened is that the calorie deficit has disappeared.
