Will WLI work if I don’t experience “food noise”?

I am seriously considering WLI, as I have a lot to lose, but have been hesitant, as I’m nervous about side effects. My sister has lost a fair amount on them and I was talking to her about it. She said the best thing for her has been that the injections have got rid of the food noise. But I don’t have that, never have. Has anyone else used WLI and not had food noise issues? Is it still effective?

Food noise for me is…

Why leave half a pack of biscuits in the cupboard? Just eat them all and then there’ll be no temptation left.

Yeah, I deserve a chocolate croissant this morning, why not?

Treat myself to something, sit at my desk and think “maybe just one more” on repeat.

You’ve eaten crap all week, one more day to indulge and start afresh tomorrow.

They serve xxxx dessert here, I MUST take the opportunity to have it (despite having it recently).

Sometimes all of these on the same day!!

I never really had big portions of food, it was all the little extras in between plus very little exercise.

On MJ I don’t even think about food at all during the day. It’s liberating.

See, I don’t do any of this, except perhaps ‘treat myself’ to cake , but as I said, not more than once a week. Example- I have a bar of dark chocolate in the cupboard and eat one square a day and never think about it otherwise. My partner, on the other hand, finds it hard not to eat the whole bar or whole packet of sweets at once.

Still worth honestly tracking your calories.

I would try cutting right down on your carbs first, see how that goes. My typical breakfast is berries, Greek yoghurt (full fat) and nuts, or some eggs, lunch is tuna mayo with salad, or omelette, dinners I have protein with veg or salad. No rice, potatoes, bread, pasta. Works a treat for me (50 menopausal)

SilenceInside · 05/07/2026 10:59

@MimiGC if you have no problem with sticking to a specific amount of food then it seems logical to try reducing your calorie intake to about 500 cals below your TDEE and see if you can lose weight without needing any medical help at the moment. But you would need to carefully track what you’re actually eating.

If you can’t manage that for a sustained period of time, say at least 4 weeks, then that’s where WLI could help to support you to do that.

Pairymoppins · 05/07/2026 11:05

OP ignore the posters saying ‘if you don’t have good noise how can you be overweight’. They are massively oversimplifying. Like you I don’t have food noise and never have.

I am overweight even though I eat less than the other slimmer members of my family. My issues are sometimes too large a portion at dinner,or a really carby breakfast when I am tired. I know I have damaged my metabolism over the years by crash dieting , resulting that my body is very good at adjusting metabolic rate and also very quick to regain. I am losing weight on GLP 1, albeit very slowly, by instinctively eating smaller portions and drinking less alcohol. I have also noticed a reduction in belly fat and joint inflammation which is really good news.

RancidRuby · 05/07/2026 11:12

It sounds like you don’t eat nearly enough protein and that you’re eating more calories than you think. Start tracking calories and prioritise protein. Greek yogurt with fruit and a small handful of granola for breakfast instead of toast would be a good start.

No, have never weighed food. I did use the My Fitness Pal app a few years ago to help with calorie counting though.
I thought ‘food noise’ meant thinking a lot about food, planning what you are going to eat next, etc. I definitely don’t do that. When it’s my turn to cook, I don’t think about it until I go into the kitchen and see what I can rustle up from what’s there. When it’s my partner’s turn to cook, I don’t think about what he’s making until I sit down to eat. We don’t eat out much, but that’s partly due to the cost of living. I think what I’m trying to say is that I am not a very food oriented person, it doesn’t really interest me like it does some people ( aside from cake, which as I’ve said in a weakness of mine).
But I am a habitual eater, eating by the clock, regardless of how hungry I actually am.

It is likely to be what you're eating and portion size. You need to check your TDEE, there are lots of calculators, then remove 500 cals per day per 1lb you want to lose each week. Portion sizes are almost always the culprit, many years ago after having my eldest I did WW to lose the weight. One lady couldn't understand why she wasnt losing when was sticking to her 'points'. She was many stones overweight. They asked her to bring in her portion of cereal and the jacket potato size she was having. Both were 4 times bigger than what she was logging as she wasnt actually weighing anything.

I am 5ft 4 and started WLI at just over 12 stone. To lose weight even at BMI 28 I only needed around 1300 cals.

Once I had lost a bit it was closer to 1000 cals I needed to lose weight. My maintenance is probably around 1200 so very low still.

I have been on WLI since November, the food noise is there again now, not as bad though but I still get full very quickly and lose interest after a normal amount of any meal.

I think there’s much more to it than food noise. Before starting I did the fast800 diet for 3 months and lost 3lb. Eating the same, I lost 12lb in the first 3 weeks, 3 stone in 3.5 months.
My weight appeared with age (at around 38) and i genuinely think my metabolism just slowed, perhaps along with insulin sensitivity changes. MJ seems to have reset those for me.

NewDogOwner · 11/07/2026 11:12

Yes. It keeps you full for longer so you will eat much less overall.

I’m the same. I don’t get food noise and often have one meal a day, in the evening. Or I might have some cereal in the morning and then an evening meal. But I am very overweight, and not much seems to shift the pounds.

This is me and I just don't understand it at all. I was always fairly slim, then peri hit and bam the weight piled on. I hadn't changed my eating habits and I really don't eat that much. Its so rare for me to eat lunch and if I do, then I don't want dinner. I already get full really quickly. If I have a big meal out then I stay full for ages, very rarely then have dinner the next day. I don't snack. While I don't do formal exercise, I'm very active. Don't drive and walk everywhere.

So I've also wondered whether WLI would actually do anything for me. I'm at an impasse because I don't really see how I could be eating much less. I know people will probably say that it must be the type of food I'm eating and maybe it is. But surely calories are calories whatever type of food they come from?

SilenceInside · 11/07/2026 11:21

@DancingLions have you checked the actual calories you’re consuming say for a week, and compare that to your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) which is based on your age, sex, activity levels? Then you’d see if you’re eating at maintenance calories or overeating.

And, yes, WLI would work for you. They have various effects on fullness and appetite, but they also alter how your body responds to eating, how you store fat and how you utilise stored fat. If you can afford them and meet the prescription criteria then I would think it’s worth a try.

DancingLions · 11/07/2026 11:34

@SilenceInside

Thanks. I think you're right and I do need to actually work it all out. I don't feel comfortable at this weight so I need to do something.

Very similar to me and MJ has been life changing. I've gone from BMI 38 to 20.

I'm still on a low dose a year into maintenance and eat more now than I did when I was piling the weight on from my late 30's or so.

I obviously ate even less to lose the weight, but after reaching my goal gradually adjusted my food intake up and my medication down. I was previously very low carb, so now it's so amazing to be able to eat a sandwich for lunch and then a small dinner with a small portion of carbs included.

The med helps me process food more like it did when was I was slim and could eat anything.

Yes, I think they speed up you metabolism as well as making you feel more full.
