Not losing weight on mounjaro second time around

I started Mounjaro about 18 months ago and lost nearly 3 stone. I was a very slow loser mainly 2lb a week. I came off it in Dec for a break but quickly decided I wanted to go back on it. As it had been over 6 weeks I had to start at the lowest dose again. I was only on 10.5mg.

since going back on it I haven’t lost a lb! They just say keep going as I’m on a low dose 7.5mg. I can’t keep affording when nothing is happening!

has anyone else been in this situation and maybe changed to wegovy? I’m tempted too now the new pill form has been launched

2 pounds a week is not slow !!!

SilenceInside · 02/07/2026 21:50

That's got to be a mis-type, 2 lbs a month maybe??

TwoHoots74 · 02/07/2026 22:18

Sorry it was a week but compared to others losing 4/6lbs I felt mine was slow although done healthily.

Yeah, that’s not very slow at all. If you know people who lost 4 or 5 lbs every week that’s unusual, and probably too fast. It has also made you think that your weight loss was poor when in fact you’d be regarded as responding well to Mounjaro.

I would think that you might need to get back to 10mg or higher this time round to get back to the same effects.

I lost 5 stone on MJ over 9 months but on maintenance I started gaining. I decided to come off it for a couple months. I’ve now been back on it for 3.5 months and only lost 10 pounds. It’s so slow, I’m on 10mg. I’ve got another 12 pounds to go before getting back to my lowest weight.

2 pounds a week is a lot.

from what I’ve heard the other injections won’t be so effective as MJ.

Ok two things,

2lbs a week is at the high end of healthy weight loss, it’s not remotely slow.

secondly if you’re not losing it’s you’re consuming too much, you need to diet.

2lbs a week is not very slow, as someone who lost 1lbs a week this could affect how I felt about my weight loss, but I'm actually really happy with it as it was consistent losses, where many others plateaued in their journey but I only stayed the same for 2 weeks in 15 months when I ate more food than my deficit and more carbs (birthday amd work trip). My friend who lost 2.5 stone in a year, where I lost 4st in that time said my weight loss was fast.
Are you tracking your food and calories? I use myfitnesspal app and use www.tdeecalculator.net to work out my deficit. Higher protein and lower carbs always ensure better losses for me.

Lastly, most people have to go upto their previous dose, which is why you keep getting told to carry on, to reach effectiveness ie satiety/suppression reduced food noise due to being on it previously and having tolerance.

Don't bother with wegovy, I switched for 3 months and it was awful for me, inflammation and IBS symptoms back, muscle aches, bloating, weight gain due to water retention even when eating in strict deficit. The highest wegovy is probably equivalent to 7.5mg so it won't do anything for you if you need 10mg or above.

Isn’t there a 60 weeks limit to effectiveness ? After 60 weeks, the body starts bypassing the hormone receptors?

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/07/2026 08:59

2lbs a week is good, that’s what I was losing and I lost 10 stone in the end.

what is your daily food intake?
how much water do you drink?
what is your current weight, height and activity level?

Source for that? It’s not been proven in any of the clinical data that I’ve seen!

Don’t be silly, you know it’s used for diabetes, and also about to be for cardio, who would prescribe that, it’s also recommended as a long term obesity medication, I’ve been on for two years 😂

I've been on it 21 months so far and it's still working fine and i was prediabetic and have insulin resistance, so if it didnt work i would know due to symptoms and how ill i felt even after the weightloss when I switched to wegovy for 3 months and then returned to mounjaro.

Did the 60 weeks come from the fact that the first mounjaro trial was 60 weeks long? This is just how long the trial was nothing to do with its long term effectiveness.

I switched to Wegovy due to price and it did absolutely nothing for me, I continued to gain weight.

I’m back on Mounjaro now (on 2.5mg) and it’s giving me good appetite suppressant like before, but the weight is barely shifting despite being in a deficit. I’m keeping going because I don’t see any other option but it is demoralising.
