Not losing weight?

Hi guys,
I hope you’re well.
I used Mounjaro last year and lost three and a half stone. I stopped because the price went up, so it became unaffordable 😭 My last dose was in September. Unfortunately, the weight also came back, and I’ve regained about one and a half stone.
Six weeks ago, I restarted Mounjaro, but this time I’m not really feeling any appetite suppression.
I’ve done a month on 2.5 mg and now two weeks on 5 mg. This Saturday will be my third injection on 5 mg. I’ve ordered a 7.5 mg pen, but I haven’t lost any weight yet. Is this normal? I’m a bit worried it might not work this time, and I’m really regretting stopping Mounjaro the first time round.
I still need to lose another three stone.
I would like to know if anyone who has restarted Mounjaro has managed to lose weight and reached goal second attempt. Thank you

I think anecdotally mounjaro doesn't seem as effective second time around. But we also know that diet choices have to work with the medication and it may not be effective for you until the higher doses. I would give it a bit longer and really make an effort to eat well and within a deficit

What dose did you go up to the first time you took MJ? What steps are you taking to lose the weight, other than taking MJ?

takeharry · 02/07/2026 11:04

What are you eating? You have to make a conscious choice to be in a calorie deficit. You haven’t mentioned any actual changes?

I went up to 10mg, eating 1200 calories as I’m only 5’5.

I’m eating 1200 calories, limiting carbs, and lunch and dinner are protein rich and with lots of vegetables and salads. Drink 2.5 litres water daily, more in hot weather

Firstly, hot weather can make your body retain water, so if it's only short term failure to lose weight, this could be why.

Secondly, there is not one overweight adult person on this planet who wouldn't lose weight on 1,200 calories, provided they were able to walk, talk and do their household chores.

You are not counting right.

Lexy2345 · 02/07/2026 15:06

I think you are calculating your calorie intake incorrectly because there is no way you wouldn't lose weight on 1200 cals per day, regardless of MJ.
When you say it isn't working, are you still feeling hungry all the time and wanting to eat all the wrong things?'

I have recently started Wegovy and the appetite suppression was almost instantaneous. Half way through week 3 and I have to make a concerted effort to eat, and when I do eat, I make sure it is nutritious. I want to lose weight but I don't want to achieve it by starvation and end up with malnutrition and brittle bones.

I'm 5ft 6" and have to limit to 1100 calories to be certain of losing. Once I'm on a downward trend, there is tiny bit of room for manouvre and I can usually very small losses as long as I stay under 1300.

Given it is salad season, could you try and lop another 100 calories a day off for one week and see if that will help. Do you do any exercise? That really helped for me and gave me a few extra calories of leeway.

Hello, I’m in a similar situation, I’ve read that you need to get to at least the same level of dose that you were on previously to get the same effects, I’m on 7.5 at the moment and not feeling like I did last time, am going to try 8.75 next which will hopefully kick start things

No, you don't.

Even if you were 60 years old, 8 stone, which is severely underweight, and did little to no activity (which is pretty much impossible if you have a job and do chores), your TDEE would STILL be 1,299 meaning you wouldn't need to eat 1,100 calories.

Your very lowest "healthy weight" along with minimal activity would give you a TDEE of 1,319.

Let's assume you're mid healthy weight (in which case why are you trying to lose) and you're above minimal activity - TDEE 1,646.

If you do actually NEED to lose weight, you're surely overweight by BMI, giving you a TDEE of MINIMUM 1,500 even with no activity.

So there is no way on this planet, if you're calculating your calories correctly, that you can "only lose on 1,100".

NOTE: I used 60 years old as an example of the lowest possible TDEEs. If you're decades younger, your calorie intake is more - change the last example of slightly overweight with no activity to a TDEE of 1,700.

You. Need. To. Eat. More. Than. 1,100. Calories.

Have a search for the re-starters threads as there’s been a few folk in your position who stopped last September after the price increase and have re-started after Christmas as they’ve put some of the weight back on again.

Unfortunately, there’s some anecdotal evidence that if you stop taking MJ then re-start a few months later, the effects are much less strong the second time around as your body has already adapted to it.

You will probably need to increase to the strongest dose you were on previously before you start to feel any serious suppression. Don’t give up yet!

All of this.

I am honestly sick of reading people say they can’t lose weight on 120/1100/1000 calories, even less sometimes. One poster said they need to eat no more than 500 calories ffs.

I can only tell you that this is what has worked for me. Lost 3stone on MJ and that’s how I lost it. Have been maintaining since January 2025. Came off completely for 5 months and have micro-dosed since then. Still same weight. I’m mid 50s and have dieted all my life. This is the best success I’ve ever had.

plenty of other posters on the many, many, many WLI threads who also need to be at similar calorie intakes to lose weight. But we are all different …..

Backawayfromthesausage · 02/07/2026 16:18

I think you will need to go to at least 10 to start to feel it again I’m afraid, maybe 12,5
