FRIGHTENED OF WEIGHT LOSS INJECTONS

VimtoPrincess · 26/06/2026 17:28

I have a BMI of 40 and I have to do something about my weight but I find it difficult to lose weight post menopause and just cant get my head in the right space. I've decided to try Mounjaro through Medexpress but I only think about all the side effects. I am not affraid of injecting, I've done that through two pregnancies. Please help with any advice to make this journey easier.

I have ordered but my photo wasn't accepted as my pants were too lose! I don't have any fitted trousers so i have had to take a photo in my chub rub shorts and a vest which was hideous. Waiting on an email which will no doubt be tomorrow.

The second picture did the trick 😆
Now I need to check out good foods to eat. Dr said concentrate on good foods, no junk. Any suggestions?

Egg
lean meat
Switch out some of your carbs with veg so roasted broccoli instead of potatoes, green beans instead of pasta
nuts/nut butter
rye/seeded bread
avocado

I find it easy at this time of year - lots of lean meat and salad. Don't go mad with the dressing though. 😁

As @InfoSecInTheCity said try and replace some carbs with veg/fibre. You'll feel fuller for fewer calories. And focus on healthy fats like avocado and nuts/nut butters. Get the best nut butters you can afford - like PipnNut or Meridian. Ones with no added sugar or palm oil. Just nuts and maybe a bit of salt.

Eggs are great for breakfast. I like boiled or poached with a small piece of either wholemeal/granary or sourdough toast. My other main breakfast is strained 5% greek yoghurt* with berries and a bit of low sugar granola. Right now that's usually fresh strawberries because they're good and available but I keep bags of frozen raspberries and blueberries ready to go year round. They don't take long to defrost or you can give them 10 secs in the microwave.

*the important thing with the yoghurt is that it's strained like proper Greek yoghurt (ie Fage). It doesn't have to be Fage - other brands do it like Yeo etc and supermarket own. You can also get the 0%, 2% or 10% fat versions. Just don't get the much cheaper "Greek Style" stuff. It's not strained and is much lower in protein.

One bit of advice based on my own experience - try not to eat too late/too soon before you go to bed.

I’m vegetarian so I’ve been eating colourful salads with tofu, vegan protein shakes with oat milk and fruit, dhal and brown rice, a few salty but otherwise healthy snacks and jacket potatoes with beans and low fat cheese. I don’t fancy bread or eggs.

VimtoPrincess · 01/07/2026 17:29

Thank you for the advice, its a bit confusing so i'm going to go with the yogurts and berries and possibly poached eggs and toast and maybe try some protein shakes to be going on with. I will see what happens. Hopefully my medication will arrive either tomorrow or Friday. I am eager to start now.

I recommend the clear whey protein drinks from My Protein. They just taste like squash but it’s 20g of protein for 100 calories.

Start now, nothing to stop you from getting going!

I like to have a Tupperware of veg ready to eat in the fridge at all times, it makes for a really easy side or just plate some for a quick snack. The one in there at the moment is little gem lettuce, grated carrot, pink pickled slaw, sliced peppers and cherry tomatoes. During the winter I would have greenbeans, asparagus, mushrooms, babycorn, sugarsnap peas and would just steam it in the microwave for 3 minutes to have as a warm side or with a couple of boiled eggs chopped and mixed through as a warm salad for a light lunch.

I am also a huge fan of my slow cooker, I make up a batch of something that includes 400g meat and as much veg as I can squeeze in. That will make 4 portions each one about 200-250 calories and can be a lunch by itself or paired with some basmati rice or a steamfresh bag of veg for dinner.

My current batch is pulled chicken, I buy prepped veg so just need to empty into the slow cooker and turn it on, 400g chicken breast, 2 bags of sliced mushrooms, 1/2 bag of frozen sliced mixed peppers, 1/2 bag sliced carrots, 1 bag sliced red onion, 1 can of chopped tomatoes, a couple of tablespoons of chia seed for added fibre, whatever seasoning you like I think I used old el paso tomato and roasted red pepper, on low for 4-6 hours then I put it on the hob for 10-15 minutes to thicken up. The chicken breast shreds apart as you stir.

I will be so careful about what i eat and drink ... I drink quite a lot of pepsi max so that will have to go. I enjoy a takeaway once a week but that will have to go too 😆

I never gave up either.

I was terrified to start MJ but genuinely thought it would kill me but I figured that was better than the life I had anyway. I was so depressed and didn’t realise. Anyway it didn’t kill me it gave me my life back and 9 stone later I am thriving.

You won’t regret trying it, even if it doesn’t work for you but you will always wonder ‘what if?’ if you don’t give it a shot.

Don’t worry- you won’t want to consume Pepsis or takeaways.

I mean plenty of people do.

I went right off fizzy drinks. I don’t know why cos I love them so much and now if I have one it doesn’t give me the same buzz. Also I hardly bother with takeaways simply cos I can’t eat much of it so loads gets wasted and it seems like a waste of money! I can eat them fine though, just less of them.
