On off MJ due to digestive issues - feeling stuck

Fortyin24 · 18/06/2026 20:56

I am really stuck. Bought microdose (up to 2.5mg) MJ privately twice and got great result and felt great in many ways, but also struggled with constipation, which I really can’t deal with after some post birth complications in that department. Said issue then made me feel bloated, full and horrible and I came off it. Regained the pounds. Tried again. I’ve just been off it again for 3 weeks and can feel the usual food noise and cravings coming back.

I’m really stuck, I don’t want the constipation or to wind up feeling gross again, and long term is it really the solution anyway - of course it’s sooooo expensive (not a candidate for it on NHS) and what do I do stay on it forever..but nothing else works.

Anyone with advice or experience I’d really appreciate your help
x

What were you eating while on MJ? I have found I get constipation if I don't keep up things like fruit and veg, chia, flax and prunes!

Fortyin24 · 18/06/2026 21:06

Nothing too different to normal, just a lot less of it!

Maybe you just need to up your fibre on the MJ or take a gentle laxative like lactulose.

knackeredmumoftwo · 18/06/2026 21:09

I take psycillum husk capsules - full of fibre and helps

LadyCurd · 18/06/2026 21:09

Two psyllium husk tablets a day helps and inulin in morning coffee. You defo need massive amounts of water and upping the fibre and it’s fine annoying to keep on top of but you can do it. Lactulose every day if needed. Don’t let yourself get constipated it’s bad for pelvic floor and all sorts.

Try eating 2 kiwis a day. Studies show it keeps you regular - works for me

That includes the skin! Which I can't face at all.

I have started movicol and now going daily, after a year of mounjaro induced constipation it's wonderful! Only need 1 sachet a day.

I‘m not a HCP but read somewhere online that relying on taking medicine such as movicol daily can make your bowels ‘lazy’ and cause bigger problems in the future.

So I try to only take it if I feel I really need it and have also been increasing my fibre intake.

Also, another tip I read was to drink a lot of water during or soon after eating and walking for at least 30 mins to help your digestion process the food more efficiently.

Golden kiwi skin is thin and not furry and they are almost as good for fibre as their furry green cousins.

Fortyin24 · 18/06/2026 22:20

Ok so I could try some of these things, thanks

On the long term side, what do I need to do to keep the effect going and not return to the hunger and food noise, to avoid being on it - and worrying about the digestive issues- forever?

I recommend shaving your kiwi (running a sharp knife over the skin) if anyone has got the hairy ones! Makes it far more palatable 😂

Thing is I travel for work, so having a lot of control of options available isn’t always possible

Magnesium cítate before bed, and look at taking the Wellguard soluble fibre gummies. Oh and drink lots of water.

Ive found that to be a gentle combination that works. Dont take magnesium oxide as it works to fast!

Overtheatlantic · 19/06/2026 12:19

I take 4 psyllium husk capsules every morning for constipation and drink lots of water. It works!

TheBlueDeer · 19/06/2026 12:21

I am really struggling with the constipation too. Biomel powder is working for me but I do need the full amount

Fortyin24 · 19/06/2026 12:57

Never tried psyllium husks, that would be easy to take when travelling if they come in capsules

This morning I had a protein yoghurt and blueberries at 8am, by 10 I was starving - properly hungry in my stomach not just ‘food noise’. Then had a panini half and hour ago and am properly hungry again now 😔 so depressing

Get ahead of the constipation. I would recommend Wild Dose-a dose for blocked bellies or Holland & Barrett Colon Complex (just as effective but cheaper). Both of these can be taken daily, keep you regular without any cramping or discomfort, or diarrhoea. Just plain old regular.

If you don't want to take something regularly then at the end of each day if you haven't had a BM, take something immediately. Don't wait and see. If you're happy to be close to a toilet tgen Dulcolax Pico (sodium picosulfate) WILL work but tends to cause cramps and explosive diarrhoea

worldsgonemadnow · 20/06/2026 10:22

@Fortyin24just be careful if significantly increasing fibre to ensure you are also significantly increasing your fluid intake. Increasing fibre can really work to avoid constipation, but for some people it can make it worse.

Nobody knows the answer to that...probably long term maintenance and very slow titration down
