Experiences of Mounjaro before trying to conceive later this year

sorry if this has been posted. But I’m in a catch 22!

i want to start Mounjaro to shit 2 stone. I have my honeymoon coming up in August. So was going to start next week until the honeymoon and see how I get on. My plan isn’t to be on long term. Come off and maintain.

probably in January we would like to TTC. I’ve read up online it’s best it leave it a few months before doing so.

im a bit scared to start the jabs and issues around pregnancy coming later on - ultimately I know I need to speak with my doctor.

but, has anyone successfully fallen pregnant after Mounjaro without any issues? Or has anyone had any problems? Pregnancy and baby health?

thank you x

Pretty sure the literature still says short term use just results in short term weight loss & most people gain as much as they lost or more after stopping. It’s very much contraindicated in pregnancy and should be stopped well before trying.

I’m not worried about gaining weight after. I’d expect to gain a few pounds. But will try ever so hard to maintain. It’s more so for my honeymoon ect an to get my BMI down to normal.

just wondering if anyone who has fallen pregnant after stopping the jabs have been okay ect :)

Surely you just follow the advice from the patient info about Mounjaro and wait at least a month after your last dose before TTC? It takes 30 days for all the Mounjaro to leave your system, so that’s why you need to wait at least that long. When it’s all gone from your system there won’t be anything there to cause an issue.

That would be an easy diet 😁

On a more serious note: I know several people who were prescribed WLI before IVF to maximise chances of the procedure being successful and a healthy pregnancy.

Its understandable to have concerns especially before TTC (and despite the long track record there is always a chance if something being found - though it’s very slim)

If this is your concern, Wegovy has a longer record vs MJ, & is prescribed for diabetes as well as weight loss (as ozempic/semiglutide)

Id suggest you start & then follow the guidance to take a break to clear the drug before TTC - you could do a couple of months if you are cautious but I don’t think there is a need

Also, as PP mention, this is a longer term treatment and it’s likely you will regain some weight - a few people don’t but that is the minority

Approx 12% of the US, 10% of Irish & 8% of UK households have someone on these jabs … many of those women will have had successful pregnancies, please try not to worry

I personally have 2 friends who accdentally got pregnant on MJ. Both had fertility issues and wanted to lose weight before IVF - but didn't need it after all. According to internet, not unusual at all. Babies are perfectly fine.

I started Mounjaro after using Wegovy and also had future pregnancy plans in mind, so I completely understand your concerns. I made sure to speak with my doctor about when to stop treatment before trying, and that really helped me feel more confident. I think getting proper medical advice is definitely the best approach, but you're certainly not alone in thinking about it this early.
