Hair loss after weight loss and concerns about fake supplements online

I have lost 2 stone slowly over a year and have been quite obsessed with not losing muscle, so have a personal trainer 3 times a week. Very happy with the results all round. However, I did notice much more hair loss in the last few months. I have thick, curly hair so not really noticeable to anyone else. I sought information on Mumsnet and started taking biotin, pumpkin seed oil and someone recommended a product called Nutrafol. I bought the first bottle on Ebay and it was very good. The next three I bought were very obviously counterfeit which could be dangerous if ingested. I complained to Ebay and after 5 minutes they responded that their AI tool said the product was fine and not a fake! This week I see that most of the Nutrafol on Ebay is fake. Be careful out there!

Why on earth would you buy supplements from ebay of all things? There's no way for them to verify any product on their platform.

Buy from a reputable supplier - high street companies, direct from manufacturers etc. That gives you a way to hold them accountable at least.

Well, yes, completely agree. It’s all v well buying household stuff or 2nd hand clothes etc on eBay but why would you risk fucking with your health?

On a more positive note, the hair will v likely come back (even if you do nothing). It’s upsetting at the time but it passes..

Steady on. I would not ever risk “fucking” with my health. I did a lot of research after someone posted on here that they bought it in the UK (it is only marketed in the US). I thought I had made an informed choice but got it wrong on my second purchase. I was merely warning others.

Research isn't the problem.

Buying anything you ingest via eBay is the problem.

2 stone over a year should not lead to hair loss, I would see your GP to see if something else is going on.
