Start weight loss injections now or wait until after July holiday?

I’m going to be starting soon on my mission to sort my lardy arse out!
However due to go on holiday in July for 2 weeks all inclusive. Should I wait until I’m home or is it worth starting now? Help…..

I think I'd start now. But I'd think about how I would transport the WLI and where it would be stored whilst I was away.

RoseField1 · 08/06/2026 12:19

Start now of course. Just because you've got access to loads of food doesn't mean you have to overeat.

SilenceInside · 08/06/2026 12:22

Oh, I'd start now. I did start in July 2024 having already got holidays booked. But I was of the mind that once I'd decided, I just wanted to crack on.

Once in use, Wegovy and Mounjaro pens can be kept at room temp as long as it's below 30 degrees C. You can get cooling pouches to keep it under 30 degrees that use cold water rather than ice packs, the main brand is called Frio.

Junejunejune · 08/06/2026 12:23

Now.

Travelfanatic · 08/06/2026 12:39

Start now , why wait. You can still eat ok its just you will feel fuller quicker

ShrankLastWinter · 08/06/2026 12:42

I went on holiday almost immediately after starting and enjoyed it much more not being a slave to food. I ate only the really nice stuff and loved it.

If you start now, you could well be a stone lighter by end July!

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 08/06/2026 12:45

Start now, and then you’ll have got more understanding of how jabs affect you by the time you go on holiday.

I would say stay on as low a dose as you can till after your holiday, and take the pen with you to keep jabbing - much easier not to take a break and restart.

You can still enjoy AI on holiday - just pick smaller options etc…. And you won’t be the only one on jabs…. Other people will be doing the same thing. I found the trick to be to choose lighter options and maybe skip a course if it’s a 3 course meal, so go for starter or dessert, or ask for a starter as your main - lots of restaurants will happily serve this.

LoSlo3toGo · 08/06/2026 13:57

Start now - you’ll like your holiday snaps more

can you adjust your booking to half board vs AI as you are unlikely to eat loads when you are out there

Firesidechatter · 08/06/2026 17:25

Now of course,

Unfortunately I can't change the board of the hotel. This is a very long awaited holiday as sadly my husband has been diagnosed with cancer. Hence I've put on over 2 stone in the last 18/24 months due to very bad eating habits, stress and far too much wine.

I would start now and I still good habits .part of the joy of wlis is relearning how to not overeat.

susiedaisy1912 · 08/06/2026 17:34

I’d start after the holiday to be honest. I’ve been on MJ for 2 years and have had my ups and downs with the medication. I can’t eat anything spicy or with a higher fat content. For me it’s not about just eating less or smaller portions.. I have to stick to a low fat, low spice, high protein diet otherwise I’m on the loo and have stomach issues, alcohol can be an issue for some people as well. Holidays are expensive and you don’t want to be avoiding food in case it upsets your stomach. You’ve been overweight for however long so another 4 weeks won’t make any difference in the long run. IMO.

Moveoverdarlin · 08/06/2026 17:34

Start now.

Davina1234 · 09/06/2026 11:28

Thank you for all your replies. I know the overwhelming majority feel I should start now and although I’m very tempted I am worried about possible side effects.
As I’ve waited almost 2 years for this holiday I think on reflection another few weeks won’t really matter. Hopefully if we get to go away next year I’ll be able to look back on this year’s holiday photos and see a massive improvement.
Anyway I’m going to wait until I get back and fingers crossed by Xmas I might be somewhat nearer my goal!!

I'd wait. I didnt have stomach issues on MJ but you would be gutted if you did on holiday

Sensible decision imo.

I personally would start now 😊 I had a holiday not long after starting MJ and it actually helped me be more mindful without feeling like I was missing out. You can still enjoy yourself and get into a good routine before you go 🌞✈️

knackeredmumoftwo · 10/06/2026 21:15

I would also start now, you can still enjoy your holiday but without the bloating and over indulgence - you still eat just smaller amounts, I don't like carbs at much on them and a few glasses of wine are enough - it helps me to be healthier all round and o enjoy the next day rather than nursing a slight hangover and upset stomach x

morbidcuriosity · 10/06/2026 21:18

Another for start now.. Wish I had started sooner, although I did start as soon as i found out about them , but they were available way before.

Daineee · 11/06/2026 22:25

If it were me, I'd probably start before the holiday so I could begin getting into a routine, but I'd keep expectations realistic and still enjoy the break. ☀️🍹 It's all about building long-term habits rather than being perfect for two weeks away. You've got this! 💕

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 11/06/2026 22:37

Start now, I don’t know about MJ as I’m on Wevgovy and I was a bit of a wino/gin head now I don’t drink at all and the weight has dropped off very quickly.

AWomanOfWealthAndTaste · 12/06/2026 10:33

I've been on several holidays since starting and it's been completely fine, but I did delay starting until I had a bloc of a couple of uninterrupted months at home. Just felt more comfortable that way. In retrospect it would've been fine to have started before the trip I wanted to do first, but you don't know that ahead of time. There's something to be said for making sure you feel comfortable and in the right headspace.

I wouldn't encourage people to delay ages, not when it's your health at stake, but we're only talking a month or so here. Best of luck to both you and DH OP!

Gettingbysomehow · 12/06/2026 10:35

Personally, having been on mounjaro for two years I'd have a last fun holiday then get cracking. Its a long haul on the jabs and I can tell you it gets tiresome.
Have fun and enjoy the holiday.
I have lost all the weight now but if that had been me I'd have chosen the holiday for sure.

mandysocks · 12/06/2026 10:36

Start now and if you end up being one of the people who struggles with SE you should have time to get it out your system before you go so you don’t ruin the holiday, and try again when you get back?
