4 weeks in, 10k in a log time, and only last pen! How do you taper off?

I just finished my fourth week, a bit of a before and after. I’m very happy so far. I reckon most of my weight was water related anyway. I’ll only take it for another month, and then taper off as I’m already quite happy with where I’m at. Has anybody tapered off after a very short term use?

Your water weight a no d hunger will come back because you've stopped taking it

MrsMiagi · 07/06/2026 16:47

Following with interest; i have had people ask about taking mj like this. I understand it to be a long term medication to treat obesity so i could never give an opinion myself because i use it for that reason. Id imagine the water weight would just return because the meds wont work once not taking them. But id be interested to hear other experiences

The hunger I think I can manage (as I’m aware what I was doing before) and the water weight I was thinking of going to the GP. It’s only 4kg but I’ve lost like a size and a half and I look a lot smaller than when I was the same weight like a year ago.

Are there supposed to be images attached to the post?

I can’t imagine being in your situation as I have been on Mounjaro for almost two years and lost 70-odd kg, not 4.

Well I lost like 35kg 8 years ago through diet and exercise and kept that lifestyle, but then perimenopause happened! And no there’s no photo but here’s one (although it’s a terrible comparison)

I’m confused as to what you mean in the title and the post itself - 10k in a log time and only last pen?? Do you mean from your post that you’ve been on it for 4 weeks (assuming on 2.5mg) and want to do another 4 weeks (on 2.5mg or 5mg and then taper off?

Yes correct! And that I also ran my first 10k in a couple of years (last time it was after my last marathon).

If you’re taking Mounjaro or Wegovy for the anti inflammatory benefits, why would you want to taper off and stop taking it?

Because it’s way too expensive to keep paying £150 a month…. The truth is that I was unsure if it was fat or water (I had suspicion it was water) but given how I look now, I’m pretty sure it’s water. Plus, I can probably get a diuretic prescription from the GP whereas I’d never get one for MJ.

I agree, why bother with mounjaro for 4kg? You’re just asking for trouble. Would have been much better to improve your diet and up your exercise with such a small amount to lose.

Firesidechatter · 07/06/2026 17:39

I’m really confused by this. You don’t look any different, and you don’t look over weight in thr first image, likely as lose clothes, and maybe a bit over weight in the after, but likely just clothing and still a healthy weight.

you can’t think you’ve lost 4kg of water, you’d be very unwell if you were retaining that much, have you been drinking enough water. Why do you need diuretics?

Because it’s not as easy as that…. I workout every single day, and a good chunk of my extra weight was gained after HRT.

Plus I thought I’d need to lose like 8-10kg (even 15kg), it’s been such a nice surprise that 4kg have done the trick.

The before and after are in reverse I don’t have a lot of photos of when I started MJ but striped one is the one I submitted to the pharmacy.

it’s not that uncommon for people who workout to retain fluid, but I think it got much worse since I started taking HRT - I drink enough water obviously I wouldn’t be able to run otherwise.

I don’t find the diuretics that bizarre my DM has been in them since I was a baby, and I’m technically overweight - my BMI is almost 28

28 - I’m an ethnic minority which I can it prescribed fair and square (plus my mother has diabetes and my dad has hypertension).

From what you've described you're probably seeing an anti-inflammatory effect from the mj. It will release water but also give you a less 'puffy' feeling generally. Since you really didn't have much weight to lose you will probably get a similar effect from a prescription anti-inflammatory med and possibly water tablets. Definitely worth talking to your GP about it.

Thank you that’s exactly what I was trying to say (albeit rather clumsily).

Just to clarify, I genuinely thought I needed to lose a more substantial amount of weight. Also to be a “healthy” bmi I would have needed to lose 11kg and if I take into account my ethnicity that would have been 16kg.

the only needed to lose 4kg has genuinely been a nice surprise.

I'm amazed that you got approved by the pharmacy for the striped top photo. I'm obese (and it's very obvious) and they kept asking for more photos from different angles and tighter clothes.
Several years ago before I was so big I did very well on one month of Saxenda. Was very pleased with myself, stopped, thinking I'd reset myself. I put the weight back on very quickly and some more too.

Well that’s because for all terms and purposes in that photo I’m 17kg overweight!

I'm closer to 37kg overweight. What pharmacy did you use?
