I can’t tolerate WLI

plainjaneonthetrain · 06/06/2026 18:38

I have tried twice
I had liquid diarrhoea, horrific stomach pain / cramps that made me want to cry. I couldn’t function never mind eat.

I obese and nearly 60. Obviously willpower has never worked for me. I’m pretty sure I have tried everything short of surgery. Which I don’t want. I’d probably just liquidise Mars bars!

l feel useless. If you met me you wouldn’t know. Good job, happy family etc but no control with eating.

I never read about people failing on Weight loss jabs.

I have tried Ozempic and Mounjaro. It was horrendous for me. Constant headaches and nausea on the first one to point more I gave up midway through the first month. Injection site allergy on the second. Lots of people give up and find them horrible.

I look at it as a lucky escape. I’ve been investigating and tried out the human being diet. It’s very very effective. Down 15lbs in 4 weeks

lilibetspet · 06/06/2026 18:41

I’m surprised you never read about it as the internet is bursting with people not managing on WLI. That said, have you considered staring with a half dose and eating very clean? Sometimes that’s all it takes.

FormerFatty · 06/06/2026 18:46

Such a shame for you. I got on brilliantly with mounjaro and had not even a hint of a side effect, same for everyone I know that’s on it. I could eat and drink anything at all with no issue.

I wonder if there’s a generic receptor issue in some people?

SunnySunnyDayz · 06/06/2026 18:50

There was some research that showed (iirc) that 1% of people have a gene which correlates with extreme side effects.

Assume you tried both MJ and WG, starting on microdoses? The wegovy tablets are coming soon, maybe they are easier to tolerate.

I'm so sorry. I have found that I lose on wli when I dont lose on an identical diet without wli, it's about much more than willpower and restricting calories, I wish they'd look into those effects more.

yes, there are genetic reasons why some people become ill. See following link. I am not promoting this company as they have had issues with data security in the past but this is important work IMO and important that people don't blame themselves for something that is not their fault.

I just found this a worthwhile and easy listen on BBC Sounds

Professor Giles Yeo touches on the genetics of it - that some people will have constipation as a side effect and others will suffer the opposite.

WearyAuldWumman · 06/06/2026 19:04

I've heard of others having this problem, @OP - that's why I've not tried the injections myself: I have both IBS and gastric reflux as it is, and I don't want to risk making matters worse.

I'm now retired and have been taking a lot of classes at my local gym as well as using the gym on my own. I've lost some weight, but it's a very slow process - two years to lose two stones. It always does go slowly with me. I need to lose at least another two stones.

ETA I'm 66.

Purplebunnie · 06/06/2026 19:08

I've had to stop Mounjaro after a bout of pancreatitis (only 4 doses taken). I've been put on a low fat diet whilst they investigate what has caused the pancreatitis and I have continued to lose weight. I really didn't want to eat much on the Mounjaro and felt like I was recovering from a vomiting bug. I also had really bad reflux but I do have a hiatus hernia.

I am also vegetarian and cheese was one of my main sources of protein but I can't have cheese on the low fat diet.

I'm hoping that I may be able to try the tablets once I get the go ahead to try again

I'm 69 and morbidly obese, the food noise is back. The only thing stopping me eating is I don't want to be back in hospital on a drip

gohomeroger1 · 06/06/2026 19:15

I nearly went unconsious from sickness and diarrhea from one dose of monjaro, 24 hours after injecting. Ate super clean, tried again a week later amd same thing happened so binned injections. My body does not like them at all.

plainjaneonthetrain · 07/06/2026 07:09

It’s interesting it’s not just me. It seems like the whole world is doing well on them.
Im feeling very sorry for myself. There’s such a sense of failure in being fat.

I loved them but couldn’t afford to do them for any longer and found that after coming off them I did regain some of the weight.
On another thread someone recommended Why We Eat (Too Much) by Andrew Jenkinson so I got that on audible this month. I’m half way through and so far it’s fantastic! It’s really educational about our bodies and that willpower and the calories in/calories out method is too simplistic. It’s already changing my attitude to food and making me feel more empowered.

Moonjaro · 07/06/2026 08:35

My experience last year was similar to the above. Lost nearly 2stone and I felt great coming off the medication - such a relief to have the side effects gone.

I've put all the weight back on.

I think I'm going to try again, very low doses and accept that I'm in for the (expensive) long haul.

It’s not just you, about 1 percent of people on them have severe gastro upset.

people do get minor side effects as the body adjusts, and of course diet plays a large part of it, too much sugar, carbs or fat will see you in trouble. But a clean and healthy diet normally sees no issues. 80 percent of people have no side effects at all.

so as much as you’re in the 1 percent club, it’s actually quite a lot of people if you think about how many millions are on the drugs globally. About 50 million.

OrangeSushi · 07/06/2026 20:48

The only people I know who have really suffered are people who didn’t eat clean for a couple of days before their first jab.

the two who were genuinely stomach bug levels of sick/runs both ate greasy/fast food the day before/of their jabs.

I warn everyone that the the 24/48 hours before you jab (especially the first one and when going up doses) you need to really eat only a small amount of things that are kind to your system and are easily digested.

You’re setting yourself up to feel like shit otherwise.

Woo383040 · 08/06/2026 14:36

I had terrible sides when I first tried. I stopped when I could no longer tolerate it after 3 weeks of trying. Restarted on a half dose and it’s been fantastic for me. Could that be an option for you?

Obviously this is just my experience but I suffered from both IBS and reflux before starting on Mounjaro, the symptoms of both have massively reduced. Obviously I don't know if it's the drug or a benefit of weight loss but it was a pretty instant improvement (I only started mid march). I was using ppis and guzzling gaviscon before and no longer need either now.

Londonnight · 08/06/2026 14:46

I can't use them either. They made me extremely ill, liquid diarrhoea and constant vomiting 24 hours a day and stomach cramps for 8 days in a row.
I have never been so ill in my life. I will never use them again.

liamharha · 08/06/2026 15:05

How long did you try them ? They take a bit of adjusting too cc

Thank you.

Unfortunately, the gastric reflux is hereditary - even very slim family members suffer from it. I've had the IBS since a bout of giardiasis in my 20s. I was a student and picked up the bug from the water supply in a Russian city (as did nearly 70 other students).

We all got the appropriate antibiotics upon our return to the UK, but some of us were left with lifelong problems.
