Complete loss of mojo - anyone else?

As the title indicates, my get up and go has got up and gone. Feeling totally meh and lacking any motivation. Not depressed as such, just a horrible blank feeling. Can’t get excited about anything like I normally would.

I’m 54 and have been on 2.5mg since beginning MJ at the start of the year (apart from a month on 5mg which had too many side effects) and have lost 2 and a half stone, now in the healthy bmi range and just 8lbs away from goal weight. I feel lithe and slim and should be feeling wonderful but just feel utterly flat. Is it MJ anhedonia or is it menopause, I wonder. Or both…

Anyone else?

No, quite the opposite really. Been on it since Jan 25, maintaining now.

I have a lot more va va voom! Maybe get checked out by GP to be on the safe side?

I’m really glad you’re feeling so good. That’s great. Unfortunately what I’m experiencing and what many others experience is a recognised side effect.

I’m 5’4 and eat way more. I weight lift though too.

That’s good to hear. I wonder if you are the same sort of age as me. I really want to get going with strength training as I know it’s so important but my lowness and exhaustion is getting in the way. And every time I finally make it to the gym my joints complain like crazy.

OP posts:
prepapiano · 10/06/2026 10:36

Joints complaining would suggest exercise is exactly what you need. Weights, not running. Weights and swimming will strengthen the joints and the bones themselves.
youll be able to eat slightly more because you’ll have more muscle mass. you’ll generally look tighter, more toned

Thank you for this timely reminder! Going to heed your words and try and do some strength training today. Can I ask your thoughts on using a stationary bike, not just for cardio but for strength and toning (alongside weights)?

I lasted 3 weeks on the lowest dose and had to stop because it took away any desire to actually get out of bed and do anything. I couldn’t eat anything and couldn’t even get myself dressed at one point. DH was really worried about me.

How absolutely horrible for you. I’ve read some people saying that the terrible lowness lifted after some weeks but that obviously just wasn’t an option for you. You have my sympathies.

Can I ask what dose you’re on and for how long? Do you find that the “meh” fleeing totally dissipates on those other days of the week or does it still linger a bit in the background?

The meh feeling does lift by the 4th day and it’s only on the 3rd day that I feel like this !It’s very odd because I definitely didn’t expect ( I have a very positive outlook usually)this and it took about 3 months for me to see the correlation.
I am on 5mgs and have been for about 6 months.

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 10/06/2026 18:59

So I’ve had this for months. I sort of know it’s the drug but it could also be I’m hitting peri as I’m 44?
In a weird way I quite like not being bothered so much about stuff, I put less effort into friendships and suddenly can’t give a shit whether someone likes me or not when before it did matter? I was the organiser in the group, always asking if people want to meet for coffee etc but then realised I could just leave it and see if others chased me for a change. Suffice to say no one really has, in fact they’re pissed off that ‘I’ve pulled away’ and apparently relied on me to organise everything. I mean suddenly I just really want to just be with family and be at home? And I can’t bothered with any drama anymore?!
Im on 7.5 and have been for months I won’t move up because im nervous that it means farther to titrate back down?
Have stalled a bit and still need to lose 10 more pounds approx. Can eat more nowadays as well but try hard to still watch everything. The gym also is more of a chore rather than a passion.

I'm 46 and I have felt like this for atleast a year @Toolea .I am NOT on glp-1s though so it's not that. Had iron injection because very low. Felt less faint but that's it. On antidepressants for 20 years so not that. Maybe it's peri- but I still got regular periods. Maybe it's life? My boys are teens now- need me less and since I don't work maybe that's a factor? My DS1 is autistic and dh travels a lot so not an option to be employed and don't have any skills to wfh.

Just wanted to say that maybe it's not the wli but other factors?

HappyWineDay · 12/06/2026 07:22

It doesn’t surprise me that MJ affects some people this way. We know it acts on reward centres of the brain which is why it’s showing promise in trials as a treatment for people with drug and alcohol dependencies.
I know that doesn’t help anyone but perhaps gives an explanation as to why you’re feeling the way you do.

Flamingosareflummoxed · 12/06/2026 07:42

Yep. It’s part of the reason I stopped.

MooBaggage · 12/06/2026 07:53

It seems such a shame to stop taking it when you've done so well and have health reasons to keep at a healthy BMI.

I've been on MJ for 18 months and don't feel depressed - flat as such, but do feel calmer - flat if that makes sense? Am also postmenopausal and was on antidepressants anyway, so maybe they are helping?

I have discovered yoga with Adriene on Youtube and it's really helping with my mental outlook - sort of takes the feeling calm-flat into a more positive place?! Maybe try some of her videos if the gym isn't doing it for you, as it's also good for your body!

I also have handweights at home and do a few minutes every day, as even a short amount of lifting gives me a buzz I have never found with any other kind of exercise.

I'm also doing a few different hobbies - have got back into knitting and puzzles - very boring but gives my hands and mind something to do and think about that isn't eating and drinking, as I think part of it is how to fill the gap that food and drink used to fill.

Am also obsessed with Vinted, as clothes have become important to me for the first time in my adult life!

Good luck and I hope you can keep going and find other things to give a bit of spark back 😊

oliviaAustin · 12/06/2026 07:57

Makes sense. My obesity lecturer says that the human brain isn’t made to withstand long term weight loss. After 3 - 6 months (generally somewhere in there) the brain gives up and wants to regain the weight. Weight loss slows, energy and enthusiasm tanks and this is when traditionally lots of people give up.

Mounjaro obviously changes the way the body reacts to the brains signals But it may be you’re getting the slump without the added food cravings etc. He generally recommends people take a week or two off being strict (don’t binge but just chill a bit) to reset.

HHCrochetDiva · 12/06/2026 08:05

It hit me this way, just couldn’t find enthusiasm for anything. Enjoyed stuff once I was doing it but no motivation to get to that point. I came off at 10 months as I’d got to where I wanted to be. I think some of it was also unfortunate timing with peri kicking in harder. I’ve been off almost a year now and have put about 8lbs back on of the 4 stone lost, it fluctuates. I’m also doing regular pt/weights and an additional exercise class which I wasn’t when I was on the Mounjaro.

Corryvreckan · 12/06/2026 08:29

Complete opposite. Mounjaro really improves my mood and energy.

You’re dealing with so much @TheBlueKoala If you’ve not been to the GP recently then it would be a good idea to go and have a chat I think. It’s sounds like you’re experiencing a perfect storm with everything you’ve got going on. Your periods will still be happening in perimenopause alongside all the dubious joys that peri M brings. Look after yourself x

That’s really interesting! I’m about to go on holiday so I guess there’ll be quite a bit of “resetting” that week 😂

It’s a tricky one. I lost 2 stone which is great. I went as high as 10 mg Mounjaro briefly, though stayed mostly around 7.5 mg.

HOWEVER, currently on 7.5 mg and I’m noticing I’m feeling pretty tired and lethargic. It’s hard to know if it’s the Mounjaro, as I do have another health issues which cause fatigue. However I have my suspicions that Mounjaro is having some effect 😔

So I’m going to go back down to 5 mg, maybe even less if necessary. It will mean I may not be able to lose the last stone and will have to more work into my “diet”. But I guess that’s the trade-off?
