Frustrating Wegovy experience

I’m not sure what I’m asking here but essentially I had a really small window where Wegovy worked like a dream.
I had no response until I got to 1mg and BAM! Man that thing worked. I was on holiday at the time and even though that’s when id normally be indulging I had no interest in food and when i did eat i could only manage really small amounts before i was full. That lasted for about 3 weeks and I was excited to move up to the next doses which is when the effect not only stopped but pretty much reversed! Hungry all the time. Food noise through the roof.
So I stopped. Couldn’t see the point of all that money for nothing.
Few months later decided to try again thinking 1mg was my golden dose. Got there again. Had same appetite effect but much less and only lasted a week. Went to next dose. Food noise and hunger back so again I stopped it.
I can’t help thinking of that perfect window first time around. It was revelatory and I loved it. If I could be guaranteed that appetite suppressing effect would carry on I’d be straight back on it.
Anyone had same experience and found a solution? Might I be a better responder to Mounjaro?

Thanks for any insights.

Impossible to know until you try it, to be honest.

Were you seriously obese and actively trying to lose weight, counting calories, eating clean, etc? Or were you only wanting to lose about a stone and expecting the drugs to do the heavy lifting?

I think people have more success with the injections when they use them as part of a planned approach to weight loss. I’m on MJ and losing steadily and have watched a few YouTube videos where they stress about eating clean and avoid foods that normally spike your blood sugars. Apparently, that can seriously impair their effectiveness.

I was going to say similar to above, I felt like on mj I was chasing suppression which I now realise is the wrong way to do it. You need to be reducing calories but focusing on more exercise and centring what you eat around high protein and high fibre as at some point you’re not going to have the same suppression, so whilst wli have their place, you have to reframe your whole attitude to food and your lifestyle and the injections alone won’t do that. Apologies if you are already doing all of this but I see a lot of people ending up malnourished just chasing the suppression. I’m on wegovy now for reference and could eat and eat if I wanted to psychologically but I feel like I’d be worse off wli altogether than being on them and really having to put in the work

Okay yes I agree that personal lifestyle changes and eating habits need to change alongside. Surely the point of GLP1 inhibitors is that is equally offers an appetite suppressant effect that supports your efforts. Otherwise what is the point? Just a placebo effect?

Hmm. Maybe that’s why you’re struggling? You’re expecting the drugs to do it all for you but they’re just a tool not the entire solution.

If you’re going to splash out on MJ, you probably need to make an eating plan to support it, otherwise you’re wasting your time and money.

Things like tiredness, stress, hormones can affect the feelings of suppression. Plus if you are eating refined sugar and processed carbs then you are working against the medication too.

Is there any chance that the weeks where it felt like it wasn't working were particular weeks in your menstrual cycle (if that applies to you)? Or were you lacking sleep, particularly stressed, or eating in a way that would not help the feelings of appetite control and suppression?

I also wonder why you didn't continue to 2.4mg or even the 7.2mg dose which has been recently introduced, and persist with it for longer whilst doing everything you can to sleep well, avoid stress (easier said than done of course) and eat a high protein lower carb diet?

Mounjaro is more effective than Wegovy, on average. You may find it works better for you, as it targets the GIP hormone receptors as well as the GLP1 ones like Wegovy does. Of course it's more expensive these days 🙁

I had a similar experience on Wegovy where one dose suddenly felt brilliant and then the effect seemed to fade 😕 That's actually why I later switched to Mounjaro through the programme. For me, it felt a bit more consistent, although everyone responds differently. 💕

I’ve never tried Wevovy but it’s pretty much impossible to be able to predict how you’d fare with it, you’d just need to try it.
and yes, to echo a pp, try not to chase total suppression or see that as the ultimate goal, it’s really not ideal.
I’m very slowly working my way down the doses of MJ having been at 15mg for about 10 months I think, trying to find the sweet spot between wanting to eat my meals and not wanting to eat the entire contents of the fridge. Doing quite well at the moment, suppression isn’t strong and I’ve become quite good at remembering the little techniques, drinking plenty of water and prioritising nutrition. 90% of the time and indulging in what I fancy 10% of the time.
It takes time, patience and unfortunately for most of us who doesn’t get it prescribed on the nhs, a lot of money - don’t squander the tool but don’t abuse it either (not saying you are op, just advice in general!),
