Just wondering when people decided to tether down I have a 10mg pen to start next week with just under a stone to go just wondering if it’s worth starting to come down with a bit still to go or wait till at target.

Wait till you’re at target. You may find the last bit slower going especially if you have been losing weight for a longer period of time.

MrsMiagi · 30/05/2026 12:35

Started at target. The last stone took ages to go

RoseField1 · 30/05/2026 12:35

Only when I had been at target for about 6 months. Still tapering very slowly by one or two clicks a week

Happylittleday · 30/05/2026 13:05

I just had my one yr anniversary and have lost just over 3 stone my plan was always to try and hit target by August this year so have my self 18 months to see where I get to and plodded along Nicely

ideally I’d like to be close to coming off by November

The risk is that you may find it harder to maintain the weight without the help of medication and maybe more likely to regain. I know set point theory is not well evidenced but I just have the feeling personally that if I can maintain my weight for 12 months that it will be easier to maintain by myself without medication. My goal and my aim is to use the medication to ensure I maintain my target weight for at least 12 months before I even consider coming off it

Happylittleday · 30/05/2026 15:32

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I personally don’t think I’ll need that long my relationship with food ( not only me but whole family) has changed we are all now more aware what we are eating and doing. Being disabled I struggle to move too much but now do that extra trip up stairs or extra swimming depending how my shifts fall I feel so much better in myself I’m proud of myself like we all should be

It’s changed as the meds mean you’ve no cravings for sugar etc. when you stop the meds those cravings come back, your body reverts to as it was before the meds, so you need to maintain the new relationship but remember the cravings and food noise, the hunger, will come back

for me I read on Reddit to do an extra month when I hit goat on current dose and start reverse dieting, so upping cals by about a hundred or so a week. I then moved down from 10, to 7,5 the following month whilst continuing to reverse diet, when I hit maintenance, ie no longer losing no gain, I held there, as then I knew exactly what I could consume to maintain, I also factored in things like wanting to consume more of socialising, so was slightly less during the week v weekend.

i have been maintaning on 5mg for about 18 months, weight is stable, no impact from reducing. As the reduction in meds was gently offset with the increase in cals.

if you feel comfortable try dropping a dose - you can always go back up if you feel you need to

I’ve just started going down at my target weight

TheChosenTwo · 30/05/2026 15:44

I’m aiming to remain at my goal weight for round a year a least before deciding whether or not I want to reduce. I’ve been sitting at this weight for about 3 months so far.
I don’t think I’ll ever come off of my own accord, I have insulin resistant PCOS (now PMOS). I am curious though to see whether being at this weight for a year or so will have any effect on it. Doubtful though, and I never planned to come off it.

morbidcuriosity · 30/05/2026 16:03

Been at target over 6 months now and not started to taper yet. . My 10mg i take every week makes me feel good and can happily maintain so not dared try yet. . I will do soon as cost is a factor and I need to stop spending money.

Happylittleday · 30/05/2026 16:59

I just wonder if the longer I stay on just to maintain the harder it will be when finally come off. I think I’ll hit target finish what I’m on what ever that is then try taper down see how I get on

I hit bmi 25 in sept 25 and was on 15mg, the dose felt super strong and i lost 6lbs that month, so I started tapering down. Fast forward to now I'm bmi 21.8 having lost a further stone and on 5mg.

RockinCara · 30/05/2026 22:44

I’ve lost nearly 5 stones, I’ve another 20lbs left, but might stop after a stone. I’ve been on a 12.5 pen for about 3 months and haven’t lost much weight during that time, although possibly inches and I have toned up. I’ve just started a 15mg pen. The first time I used it I took 10mg, then this week I took 9mg (actually 10 days later, not a week). I’m intending to drop a mg each jab. So far I don’t feel any different, but I’ve never had much, if any, suppression. I’ve not lost or gained anything since I dropped the doses. But that’s been pretty normal for a while. I have one more 2.5 pen after this. I’m quite excited about coming off them and seeing how I go on.

Happylittleday · 31/05/2026 08:41

It’s good to know how others are tapering or maintaining thank you I don’t want to be reliant on it I want to retrain myself. I got overweight by overeating and that’s the pure facts of it. I will get the stones or so off and come down. It’s all about control now I need to control my eating I needs to think are you hungry probably not. Mj is a great tool but I don’t want to be on it forever it’s my responsibility to learn

Just give it a go and see how you get on. Find a maintenance provider first, in case you do need to restart. I have recently dropped down to 5mg and the hunger is coming back quite strong already. I will persevere though

ringoutsolsticebells · 31/05/2026 18:34

I didn’t manage to get to goal- I have lipodema which doesn’t respond to weight loss. So I effectively maintained for 4 months before reducing to 7.5 mg from 15. I’m just about to try retatrutide

Allmarbleslost · 31/05/2026 18:49

With half a stone to go I went down from 12.5 to 10. Did 2 pens on 10, put half a stone on and about to go back up to 12.5. Going down a dose I literally felt as though I was injecting water - no satiety or suppression at all. It really surprised me because I was originally on 10 for 7 months before I moved up and lost lots of weight!

I have found it far more effective to drop down one or two clicks at a time and maintain the dose for a while if it feels like it's working less well. I've gone from 15 to 10 over a very long period of time (months) but that way I've continued to feel the effects enough to keep to my maintenance calories.

That’s almost certainly the wrong way round. My GP told me to stay on for a couple of years once I’d reached target because that makes it more likely the patient will manage to maintain in the longterm.

I cut down from 7.5 to 6.25 and then 5mg from about 5 months after I reached target. I plan to stay on forever at 5mg or a bit less.

DarkForces · 01/06/2026 07:25

I've been gradually tapering since September last year. I've never bothered counting clicks. Currently on 5 every 10 days which my prescriber is fine with. I'm maintaining pretty easily so plan to drop down to 2.5 in a few months. Keeps the cost down too.
