I’m on a maintenance dose of 5mg and intend to stay on it long term. I regard it as the same as any other medication I needed to keep me healthy.

Yes you can stay on Mounjaro for as long as you want to, and I think Wegovy as well although there was some guidance in the past that 2 years was advised. I think that’s not the case anymore.

You can stay on whatever dose works for you, as long as your BMI does not get too low (exact number depends on the specific pharmacy that you order from).

Cost depends on dose, have a look at https://monj.co.uk/ for Mounjaro price comparison and https://igovy.co.uk/wegovy-price-comparison-uk/ for Wegovy price comparisons.

I don't know if I'll stay on it forever, but I do see Mounjaro through the programme as a useful bit of support while I work on healthier habits 😊 It's helped me be more mindful with portions and day-to-day choices. ❤️

Yes absolutely, in fact it’s recommended. Obesity is a relapse disease, only a small percentage can get weight off and keep it off.

the drugs also bring many many other health benefits.

its perfectly fine to come off and maintain alone, its also fine to try this, and if it fails, buy a pen or two if you start regaining, to bring your weight back down and go back to doing it without, most maintenance suppliers will let you restart uo to a year after last injection.

this drug isn’t just to enable you to get to a healthy weight, it’s designed to help you stay there.

i am maintaining on 5mg too, i know no matter how hard i try, if i come off and go alone, i will be successful for a period of time, then life will get in the way and it will be too hard, diet fatigue will set in and my weight will increase. For my health i can’t permit that.

in addition im fully aware my body now works optimally, my blood sugar and insulin sensitivity is under control, my fat stores are available to fuel me, and glucose is burned off not stored as fat. Plus I have many other health benefifs, from healthy blood pressure to good cortisol levels, and no inflammation

I also frankly don’t want to live my life feeling hungry, deprived and miserably trying to control my weight, I’ve been there, done that, and my mental health is important too.

now I eat when hungry, stop when full, have healthy portions, don’t snack, work out most days, and it doesn’t take any of my headspace. If I go on a big holiday and gain a few pounds, I simply nudge my dose up and drop my weight back to where it should be.

i don’t like the cost, but I can afford it and it’s better this than the alternative, for me,

I was thinking of writing a reply, but if I did, it would say exactly this, word for word almost!

I’ll be on it forever if I can, or will move to a tablet alternative if it becomes available. I take it for diabetes so get prescribed on the NhS which does mean I have the luxury of not having to factor in cost, but it’s been transformative for me, it handles my sugar levels better than insulin and metformin and I’ve lost 10 stone, my BP is normal, my cholesterol has reduced, all my blood tests across the board are better and I feel and look fantastic.

SacrutiMonkey · 10/06/2026 10:00

It's likely that things will get a lot cheaper as the jabs come off patent and tablet alternatives are available.

HappyWineDay · 10/06/2026 12:44

I also like the idea of the tablet form for long term maintenance

JacknDiane · 10/06/2026 13:29

Thanks for all replies, @Firesidechatter you explained everything i needed to know.
Im currently trying to cut down myself without WLI and its bloody hard. Its the costs involved that are putting me off WLI, I really hope sometimes soon a tablet comes out that is just more affordable. This cutting back, denying myself and trying to eat the right thing is just soul destroying. I need something to reduce my appetite, plain and simple. Im aware my appetite is just too big and im sick of seeing myself as a bad person because of this. I want to get out the food noise spiral and actually stay healthy and slim and I feel I need WLI for the exact reason @Firesidechatterdescribed.

Im praying the costs come down soon 🙏

I was off WLI for 6 months after losing 7 stone and reaching my target weight.
I actually put on half a stone while still on them and titrating down (and because of Christmas!) but have managed to stay pretty much the same weight for the 6 months. I have been trying to lose the half a stone again which was proving impossible but at least I wasn’t regaining.

BUT it was so damn hard. Even sticking to maintenance calories at a BMI so much lower than my starting weight was so so hard. I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat “normally” again but honestly the constant restriction was exhausting.

So I have just started again. Been back since Monday on 2.5 and it’s the relief is immense. I never want to get back to where I started but felt it was inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be.

I never intended to be on for life but it is looking like it is going to be that way for me.
