Pausing Mounjaro for Surgery

I had heard that mounjaro should be paused prior to surgery but I had my pre op assessment and was told they now advise to keep taking it as usual or if I prefer I can skip one dose but it isn't necessary.

The medical team say they are able to manage patients on mounjaro without interrupting dosing.

They advised that fasting for 12 hours before the operation is enough.

I'm really surprised.

What advice has anyone else been given?
I'm wondering if this varies from surgeon to surgeon / NHS Trust to NHS Trust.

I had an op under GA last month. My anaesthetist advised that I stop eating 18 hours before the op and no liquids for 12 hours before.

She was fine with me taking MJ as normal. I decided to miss my jab 5 days before the op and then take it 2 days after. So basically I had a 2 week gap between jabs.

Good luck for your procedure!

I had surgery (north west) last month and was told I must stop injections 3 weeks before and not to restart until 2 weeks post op.

I am sad that I did this if it wasn't necessary 😔

I have surgery soon and have been told that fasting for 12 hours is enough. For this procedure they would normally advise 6 hours.

Anecdotally, I think a year or so ago surgeons were being way more cautious, but the advice seems to be settling down now into just a lengthened fast.

I had emergency surgery (appendicitis)10 days ago, had jabbed 4 days earlier, no issues as hadn’t eaten in a day and a half due to pain but am waiting until I have recovered a bit before restarting - mostly due to constipation from the codeine/morphine and being sore and uncomfortable with pretty much any bodily function.

The anaesthetist explained that the concern is vomiting then aspirating vomit leading to chest infections etc - so long as they are aware of mj and when / what you last ate they can manage your care.

if pre op says no need to stop, then just make sure on the day the anaesthetist knows, and then when to jab next depends on what surgery, How you are with food, bowels etc.

I had surgery end of last year and was advised I needed to stop 2 weeks prior then leave a week after. Similar to another on this thread. This was in north east.
It also meant I had to restart the dose back at 2.5 as I had a 3 week break.

I definitely needed to have a break as my digestion is so slow and I would have been even more constipated with the drugs if I hadn't.
If you've been told you don't need too I'd think about your own digestion and if you're slow maybe miss 1 week. If you're given painkillers either delay a second week after or take as normal but use some laxatives as it's really uncomfortable.
