I need to know if it’s something I should be doing along side MJ.
Thanks

Absolutely no scientific or medical evidence for this, it’s all just marketing and playing on the anti ageing industry. Don’t waste your money.

Proteinpudding · 27/05/2026 17:02

Agree it's a total fad. All the collagen stuff (coffee, powders etc) are that sort of 'just enough science to sound good' but there's no evidence that ingesting collagen is beneficial. Yes we need collagen, but drinking/eating/snorting it won't make it reach our skin, where we create it. Save your money.

porchiepalava · 27/05/2026 17:04

Agree with pp’s. There are so many supplements being marketed towards people on WLI, who, if they eat correctly, will be far healthier than their previous selves. I have never eaten so well in my life as I have since staring WLI, I get everything I need from food. I don’t buy into all the ‘must haves’ I just eat food.

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/05/2026 17:18

It’s just collagen powder in coffee, some use clear flavourless, some use vanilla or a flavour that complements coffee.

Ive never tried it so can’t tell you how good it is. I do take some supplements but limited:

  • psyllium husk - increases my fibre and prevents constipation
  • Multi-vitamin
  • pumpkin seed oil - for my hair which has always been thin but Weightloss hasn’t helped

I eat high protein, high fibre, moderate fat and low carb so get lots of green leafy stuff and veg grown above but fruit is limited to a few berries so the multi-vitamin is just to compensate for that a bit. I only limit fruit and carbs because I’m T2 diabetic and react strongly to even a small amount of carbs so have to be pretty vigilant about it, which is sad because I really miss potatoes and they are one of the worst things I can eat according to my glucose monitor 😢

I take collagen but not in coffee. I’d say it’s worth it, but it’s effectively protein and getting your protein count in when losing weight to help protect muscle us key.

The protein in your collagen is not the same protein you need to be consuming whilst on GLP.

I’ve been on WLI for 15 weeks while on a high protein, high fibre, low sugar, and low carb diet. I also take creatine and protein powder, and do regular strength training to prevent muscle loss. For the past 3 weeks I’ve been drinking one daily coffee with vegan collagen and adaptogenic mushrooms and supplements. I definitely feel a difference in my energy levels, it’s more sustained and steady throughout the day compared to my usual 3 black coffees a day. Couldn’t tell you if it’s made a difference to my hair and nails but I also love the earthy taste of my new coffee, so I’ll continue to have it for my morning drink.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/05/2026 21:26

I do use collagen from nutrition geeks and it has made a difference to my cellulite so I think it can work

Strangerthanfictions · 27/05/2026 21:29

There is barely any evidence for collagen supplements yet my friend started it and she was glowing I then started it and I can see a difference in my skin nails and eyelashes and my hairdresser couldn't believe how thick my hair has become, but that's taken a year, basically to grow out all the crap hair. It has done nothing for my eyebrows which I would have loved, I think my retinols might be killing them though

ParadiseIsNoBunker · 27/05/2026 21:35

I had awful dry, flaky skin in my ears. Was driving me mad. Started taking collagen and it’s gone. Appreciate this is not scientific but can only speak of what I know.

AltitudeCheck · 27/05/2026 21:36

It's one (easy) way to get protein without loads of calories. I'm unconvinced by any skin/ joint benefits despite 6 months of daily use.

ThreeStripeQueen · 27/05/2026 21:39

I took collagen for years then stopped after listening to Dr Chris and a specialist saying we don’t make collagen from eating collagen so it’s pointless taking it.
However after about 9 months off my nails started breaking, I’ve been back on it for 5 months and my nails are stronger, the lady who dyes my lashes and brows says my eyelashes are longer and my skin is looking great.

Laiste · 27/05/2026 21:43

I tried it about 4/5 years ago.

Decent quality collagen, religiously, daily, max quantity for 8 months.

Did fuck all.

Laiste · 27/05/2026 21:48

I will say tho - i remember when i was looking into it back then that different types of collagen helped different things. Marine collagen was best but ££££ and i couldn't afford that so i used bovine.

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 27/05/2026 21:55

Thank you all, I think I’ll give it a miss.

I used it for awhile and did notice that my nails grew really fast. That was the only noticeable effect and I wasn't especially excited about fast growing fingernails so I didn't repurchase.

OnlyOneAdda · 27/05/2026 22:16

I'm interested to know if previous posters have actually tried it and found it not to help or are just poo-pooing it as a fad baselessly?

Collagen is a naturally occurring product, using bovine (cows) or marine (fish). It’s a structural protein so the purpose of taking it is not about consuming protein quotas for WLI or other reasons - there are various protein powders and protein rich foods for that - it’s for skin, bones, tendons, cartilage, joints, hair.

I started taking it (I add a scoop of Hunter Gather bovine collagen to my coffee every morning) for my peri-menopausal achey joints and stiffness and have noticed a massive improvement plus have had multiple positive comments about my skin.

AgnesMcDoo · 27/05/2026 22:17

I started taking collagen after my hair started falling out. And it stopped it and reversed it.

in coffee it’s revolting

intake chocolate flavoured on hot milk and it does me for breakfast and delivers 20g of protein

Superfurryhamster · 27/05/2026 23:01

I started taking it as my nails were splitting. It made them much stronger. I stopped then my nails became very weak again so recently restarted it. So I’d say it definitely worked for me. I use willpowders and can’t taste it at all (I could taste ancient & brave and it was more expensive)

I think most pps have been quite clear about having tried it or not?

PearlsTeapot · 28/05/2026 10:37

I don't know if it works but I add it to my morning coffee anyway (nutrition geeks) and it's tasteless. I figure it can't hurt!

Part of the problem here is I started writing a post and then got distracted and didn’t finish and post til hours later 🤦‍♂️ another common peri issue that collagen does not help with at all sadly…

The first four posts all seemed to be saying it was a waste of money and a fad but it wasn’t clear any had actually tried it?

Plot30B · 29/05/2026 17:41

I've taken it for a few months, initially a marine collagen, now a combined organic bovine, marine, chicken and egg collagen, following an injury (torn tendons) in my shoulder. I'm also taking mounjaro and I'm not good at eating protein because I don't like many high protein foods, apart from very fresh shellfish and crab which are very expensive not always available.

I'm 58 and this is an injury that often does not fully heal in post-menopausal women, but I had almost full range of movement back after 3 months and now, after 5 months, the pain has almost gone and my shoulder is noticeably increasing in strength. My husband also takes it for arthritis and has noticed a definite difference. We also give it to our 7 year old large breed dog and she is definitely more agile and her slight stiffness after resting has resolved--probably not placebo affect in her case! 😁

We also enjoy the taste of the collagen in our morning latte and fussy doggo loves it on her meat. 😎

Can I ask which one you're taking? Sounds great!

Ive been taking bovine collagen for 18 months and my hairdresser as said i have lot of new growth which probably started growing around a year ago.

Despite 20kg weight loss face still doesnt look gaunt either so im not quitting it yet!

I take nutrition geeks.

I take nutrition geeks.

It's 'Revive Naturals Multi Collagen Protein Powder Types I, II, III, V & X' hydrolysed collagen. I buy it from Amazon and it dissolves well in hot liquids and fairly well in cold ones.

My only reservation is that it doesn't specify the proportions of different collagens it contains, so could potentially be almost all bovine collagen. But it works well for me, DH and doggo and we all like it, so I try not to overthink the details.
