Has anyone switched from Mounjaro to Wegovy and found it helpful?

I have switched from Mounjaro to Wegovy and had my first jab yesterday. I was on 12.5mg of MJ after being on 15mg for about 3 months. I just happened to have a 12.5mg pen left so thought I would use it up. I am on 1.7mg W. I have been on MJ since Oct 24 and have lost 4.5 stone in total but since Christmas I have only lost about 4lb. I have also been feeling more snacky (the odd biscuit here and there, chocolate most days) and drinking more alcohol. I have been able to eat bigger meals. I am switching mostly due to cost but also to see it the change helps kick start things again.

I jabbed around 2.30pm and had a normal tea - stir fry, tofu, edamame and half a portion of noodles with packet sauce. I had 2 glasses of wine.

I felt much fuller than normal, didn't want any snacks and felt nausea at bedtime and through the night. I had some pepto bismol (twice). This morning, I feel slight nausea and I don't fancy coffee (which is how I was on MJ at the start). I am really going to be careful what I eat for the rest of the week and if I have any alcohol at all, it will just be a small glass.

Feeling really optimistic about this. I really wasn't expecting to feel much effect after being on MJ for so long, particularly on 1.7mg. I could have got 2.4mg but was cautious. I know the nausea isn't great but I am hoping it was just with 'overeating' and will settle.

Has anyone else switched? When I looked at older posts, a lot of people said that Wegovy wasn't effective for them. How have you found the switch?

Gosh that is a very expensive 4.5 stone. ! Did you reduce entirely down to price because it’s a bit weird to have persevered for so long to achieve what you have and then expect to lose with a lesser dose.

Are you or have you ever been a serial dieter ? Where you lose 2 then put 3 on.. if so, then you could have developed insulin resistance ? Which will mean you probably needed to stay on 15mg until goal.

Personally I can’t logically see how changing from a GLP-1 plus GIP , to just a GLP-1. Can be ‘better ‘ in terms of weight loss. The most potent weight loss dose in the UK at the moment is 15mg of tirzepatide (MJ) logic dictates that taking a lesser dose or a less potent medication (Wegovy) would have increased effects . but am happy to hear if some have bucked the system.

Why have you changed? W is less effective than MJ so I wouldn’t get my hopes up I’m afraid.

My MIL switched briefly to Wegovy and switched back just as fast. Said the food noise came back with a vengeance a week or so into taking Wegovy, said it wasn't worth paying for. She's lost about 7st on MJ and recommends it to anyone who'll listen.

No, she recommends it to anyone who can afford it.

I had lost 3 stone 12lb by the 1 year mark which I was very happy with. It has taken another 6 months to loose a further 10lb. I ended up getting 4 pens of 12.5mg just before the prices went up in August. If it were not for that I would have been on 15mg around October and may not have plateaued.

I had hoped to be at goal (a 5.5 - 6 stones loss) by the end of 2025. Thats when I went up to 15mg even though I still had a pen of 12.5 left.

When I looked into moving to wegovy due to cost (and I have been overspending to afford MJ), I thought I had better use up the 12.5mg first. I haven’t lost anything this month but expected that. I was planning to spend a month on 1.7mg and then move up to 2.4mg if I tolerate it well. I wasn’t expecting to loose this month either but maybe after that.

I will switch back or try the highest dose if that doesn’t work. I am not prepared just yet to give up on being a healthy weight and despite dieting on and off for years I have tended to loose 10lb and put back 12lb. I couldn’t do it on my own.

Today has been positive. I made 1 slice of beans on toast around 11am and could only manage half. I had veggie sushi and salad for lunch and a bit later a protein yoghurt, some blueberries and chia. The nausea has stayed away. I was ok with coffee around 12. I have drank a big travel mug of water and some tea.

For dinner I have had the stir fry again from last night (I made 4 portions) and no wine. I haven’t felt satiety/suppression like this in over a year. I have had no food noise today.

I mean, she can recommend it without people doing it! She's just talking about how it's changed her life and that's fine. By this standard I should be upset she talks about it in front of me - I can't have it, due to being Type 1 diabetic and my consultant won't approve it off label for me for my weight issues, but I don't take it personally that she has had a good experience with it. Yes it is a privilege not everyone can access, but I'd also never want others to suffer just because I am.

Fullness came back quite quickly for me and I stopped picking at things in the evenings again,🙂 I’ve been on Mounjaro through a women’s health programme and just keep things pretty simple day to day with home cooked meals and walking. The check ins have helped a lot when things slowed down.
