Anyone with experience of Mounjaro after previous faecal impaction concerns?

I’d like to start mounjaro but am really worried about constipation, as I had faecal impaction last year and never want that again!

I think this is a question for your doctor TBH.

You would need to keep a very close eye on things and whatever you do now to prevent constipation, you'll need to do a lot more of.

I have a lot of gastric issues so paid for a private gp to start with for my Mounjaro. Very worth it.

I have never had constipation and bene on it 18 months. Not everyone gets it. You can do the best you can to eat a healthy diet and plenty of fibre, it hi k a lot of people with bad side effects don’t eat particularly well.

Oh, this might help, thank you

i eat pretty well (obviously too much!) but prone to stomach stuff

it’s the slowing the gut bit I’m scared of

It’s the only side effect I get and I’ve had a couple of horrendous bouts of constipation on Mounjaro. I have to keep on top of it through diet but I also take magnesium, and sometimes syrup of figs or prune juice to keep things moving!

afaloren · 22/05/2026 14:34

I find eating raspberries every day really helps, along with drinking enough water. But I also take Movicol at the first hint of things slowing down.

KojaksLollipop · 22/05/2026 14:39

Mounjaro had the opposite result for me, I had explosive diarrhoea for the whole month, I had to stop using it.

I think you probably need to speak to your doctor first, as no one can know what effect it will have on you, but she’ll be best placed to advise.

travailtotravel · 22/05/2026 14:52

I took a previous version of it and it totally stuffed up my gut health for about 18 months. It was terrible and terrifying. I would not go on it again because of it. Sorry, OP!

I have this risk and spoke to my bowel doctor before starting jabs, they gave me medication to use alongside if needed, it was and it’s been fine, I can’t eat a lot of fibre so that’s not an option for me, but that may work for some. Prunes seem popular choice too!

PearlsTeapot · 22/05/2026 16:48

Oh I hear you, I've had horrendous constipation over the past year including one day I thought I'd be on the toilet forever (it was definitely impacted and agony). I do everything- magnesium, prunes, apricots, kiwis, etc but nothing much helps. I'm starting movicol, unfortunately it nearly made me sick when I tried it bt I;m trying again.

STILL WORTH IT!

Fatttttt · 22/05/2026 18:26

Thanks all, it was just so awful I can’t go through that again 🙈

I think I’ll give it a couple of months of calorie counting and if I fail then I’ll speak to a doctor

I had some issues recently from taking codeine. I'm now on wegovy and keeping a careful eye. If I don't go every day I'll take laxative. Normally can manage with diet

Brenda782 · 28/05/2026 21:47

I was worried about this too after having a bad bout of constipation before😩 I’m on Mounjar now and have just been really careful with water/fibre from the start. I do mine through a women’s health programme so the regular check-ins have reassured me a bit.

Notsosweetcaroline · 28/05/2026 21:56

I’ve never had any issues, but I take a daily psyllium husk with probiotics and a litre of water each morning before I start the day, as psyllium makes you go if you take enough water and slows you down if you don’t. I tne eat three or four prunes at some point in tne day, the markies soft ones are lovely. And I’ve never had a problem.

ive also never had a problem the other way, but eat a clean and healthy dier that’s low fat and low sugar, which limits the risk there.

so for me bowel habits have been completely the same as before the drugs.
