Hello, I'm wondering whether to start Mounjaro. I'm 5 foot 3 and 11st 13. I've been on the Body Coach programme for over a year, lost around a stone and since gained half back which I now don't seem to be able to shift. I run 3-5k twice a week and do weights 3x per week too. I don't overdo it really, as have to manage my energy levels with two kids and a busy job. I do like to have a little gin tin and maybe a glass of wine a couple of times a week, and occasionally will have a bit of chocolate. But overall I'm really consistent with my habits. Most depressing thing was in the gym today when my weight, body fat and muscle was exactly the same 3 months after I started...

I have Hashimotos and am perimenopausal (age 48.)

I feel I've been in a constant hormonal cycle for years. I feel inflamed, and get random things like rash across my knuckles, plus other weird symptoms at times. I'm fed up of feeling this way, trying everything and getting nowhere. I'd like to lose weight but more importantly feel better than I do right now.

So. questions:

-Does anyone with Hashimotos have experience on Mounjaro and did you notice a difference?
-People on Mounjaro, do you lose your appetite? I remember someone at work doing it and having like a spoonful of houmous and some crudites for their lunch which made me feel depressed. I love my food!
-Do you still enjoy a glass of wine? Not saying I want to get pissed but again I don't want to lose out on every pleasure in life!
-Do I need to stay on it for life? I don't want to do this, I want to lose a bit of weight over 6-12 months and try to maintain it.
-My goal weight is 10-10.5 stone, does weight loss happen really quickly? Women in my family are curvy, don't look great below around 10 stone!

That's it for now, thanks for sticking with this and grateful for any input.

First of all I lost my appetite but then it settled down and I can still eat a smaller meal and enjoy a glass of wine - I just don’t want to drink very much at all.
It’s best not to lose more than a couple of pounds a week - yes I found I lost weight quite quickly. You don’t seem to be very overweight; one issue is that it can be hard to stop Mounjaro without regaining the weight.

violetmondays · 14/05/2026 20:45

You can lose your appetite and that’s kind of the point - however I have managed to lose all the weight I wanted and still eat what I would say a ‘normal’ amount of food, ie 3 meals (only smaller portions). I’ll admit I didn’t enjoy food as much for the first few months but now I’m on maintenance I enjoy everything again.
I still enjoyed a few drinks, just avoided the same day as jabbing to reduce side effects.
I wanted to come off it, I lost the weight in 6 months and have maintained whilst still using it for another 6 months. Now unsure about coming off it so I’ll stay on it for now. Appetite and cravings will
come back when stopping.
I think the speed of weight loss varies between people quite a lot, some are slower than others. I lost it quite quickly. And you can stop whenever you want.

-Does anyone with Hashimotos have experience on Mounjaro and did you notice a difference?

Sorry, don’t know about Hashimotos.

-People on Mounjaro, do you lose your appetite? I remember someone at work doing it and having like a spoonful of houmous and some crudites for their lunch which made me feel depressed. I love my food!

Yes of course you have a reduced appetite, that’s one of the intended effects. It’s a little hard to explain but you really don’t want to eat loads and you still enjoy what you do eat. You just eat less of it and you might prefer different things. And without being rude, wanting to eat and loving food is part of the reason that you’ve gained weight.

-Do you still enjoy a glass of wine? Not saying I want to get pissed but again I don't want to lose out on every pleasure in life!

it depends. Some people really go off alcohol. I don’t really drink but it hasn’t stopped me having the odd glass of wine, or a half of beer if I want it.

-Do I need to stay on it for life? I don't want to do this, I want to lose a bit of weight over 6-12 months and try to maintain it.

everyone wants to lose the weight over 6 to 12 months and then maintain it. But if you stop taking the medication it stops working, like any other medication. Maintaining without the medication is a challenge. The other thing is that if you find it improves your other symptoms you might want to stay on it for those benefits.

-My goal weight is 10-10.5 stone, does weight loss happen really quickly?

No. It can do, but often that’s people at a much higher starting weight who can create a large calorie deficit and have a lot of inflammation and glycogen to lose first. It would be sensible to expect a normal 1 to 2lbs loss a week. So you’d be looking at 28 to 56 weeks or so. Many people don’t experience much change on the first 4 weeks at 2.5mg, some it takes the higher doses to kick in. You won’t know until you try.

CaffeinatedMum · 14/05/2026 20:54

I still enjoy a glass of wine (unfortunately, I’m jealous of people who lose the taste for it as would defo speed up the weight loss).

No-one can tell you how quickly you’ll lose. I have lost around one pound a week. I don’t know if you’ll have to stay on it forever, I want to try without but not sure if I’ll manage.

my main bit of advice is budget to stay on it for a while, it’s not just a quick fix and you may not be able to stay on a low dose, you might have to increase each time. You don’t know until you start. I’d plan to budget for a year but look into the prices and make sure you see how much they increase by as you go up the doses.

It’s brilliant though, highly recommend.

Canthi87 · 14/05/2026 20:54

I literally have no appetite at all. I haven't been hungry at all for three months. I eat because it's necessary but couldn't go out for a meal for example. It would be a waste since Id only want a quarter of the meal max. Its also put me off alcohol. I didn't have sickness on the 2.5mg dose but as soon as I went up to 5mg I felt sick even if I ate small amounts - particularly if I eat in the evening.

Im dropping back down to 2.5mg because I feel horrible all the time.

Safarisagoody · 14/05/2026 20:54

If you lose your appetite you’re on too high a dose for you. You should get hungry for meals. Feel full after a healthy portion and no desire to snack.

ni you don’t need to stay on for life; you need to maintain your eating habits and eat to maintenance or you will regain, like stopping any diet.

weight comes off like any other diet. You need to eat in a defecit. And the bigger the defecit you chose the faster the weight loss. The smaller the slower.

tne fat doesn’t just melt off. You need to diet, it just helps you do that.

I never really get the questions, you’d start, don’t like it, you just stop, it’s a half life of five days, it’s not a big commitment, just the cost of the first pen.

i can drink fine on it. I chose not to unless socialising, as I wanted to have a healthy lifestyle.

Great post but she’s looking at 14 to 28 weeks as she wants to lose a max of 2 stone.so 1-2lbs a week would be 14-28 weeks.

edir, sorry you’re right!

Loopylou1975 · 16/05/2026 13:52

Your post sounds like me! I have hashimotos, pernicious anemia and had an early menopause (all autoimmune). I lost a couple of stone a few years ago down to 10.5 stone but following my mum passing away went up to 13.5 stone and my health was suffering (not least kidney disease) and the doctor ordered me to lose it. Lost 1.5 stone in 2023 and since then been yo-yo-ing between 11.5 and 12 stone!! I run 3 times a week, strength train 2-3 times but as soon as I take my eye off a strict diet the weight shoots straight on. I’m never one to chomp through a packet of biscuits of even eat a takeaway. It is so hard and demoralising!

so I’ve bit the bullet!! Got approved with Voy for mounjaro so I’m starting Monday. Want to lose 2 stone. Will give me a buffer to put a bit on but ultimately I can no way stay on it long term (I’m using retirement savings for this!) As I do eat clean and healthy 95% of the time hoping I’ll be able to continue myself, and exercise will be better when I’m lighter!! My worst downfall is a glass of wine and snacking bits and pieces the day after so hoping to lose that food noise.

MrsMiagi · 16/05/2026 17:11

-Don't know about hashimotos
-i still love food, never totally lost my appetite but it got smaller. I snack less
-i have alcohol most Friday and saturday nights.

-studies show most people will need to be on it for life. You stop the meds, it doesnt work, like any other med.
-i averaged 2 pounds a week loss at first, then it slowed as i got smaller.

I started in feb 25 at 14 stones 10 and gradually went up to 12.5mg which was too high so went back down to 10mg. 10mg was the dose that got me the most consistent losses. Weighed at 8 stone 12 today. I am 5 ft 4.
Some people lose very quickly, others very slowly, just depends on you eating less calories overall.
Use new customer discounts to keep the cost down. I stockpiled last year before the price incease. Gutted about the price now, but i am maintaining on 6.25mg at the mpment and will be dropping to 5mg from next week, whilst increasing calories.

Gardengargoyle · 17/05/2026 17:25

I have Hashimotos (and PCOS, type 2 diabetes, Sjogren's syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, Asthma, and psoriasis as well as other autoimmune annoyances that I forget).

I have found GLP-1 injections life changing. I'd already lost 68 kgs by following the Zoe project and fasting between 4pm and 11am, but the weight loss ground to a halt when my BMI got below the morbidly obese levels. I found it impossible to stick to 2200 calories/day without constantly thinking about food and feeling hungry all the time.

On GLP-1 medication it was a doddle to manage on 2200 calories, then drop to 2000 the next time the weight loss slowed. Then it slows again as I shed a bit more weight so got dropped to 1800 , 1600 and most recently 1400. It's amazing considering how much tooth gritting white knuckled will power it took to stick to 2200 for a couple of months without medication.

I'm 160cm tall and will be 70 next year. I wish these drugs had been available in 1986.

MeridaBrave · 17/05/2026 20:09

So I have hashimotos don’t think it makes a difference. I stayed on 2.5mg but counted calories so did not lose appetite but easy to stick to what I planned (meal prep). I lost 1kg a week. I’m still taking an even lower dose and I don’t want to expend willpower in maintaining. I’m 5 4 and now around 60kg. I’m 51 and on HRt.

Jenbot78 · 18/05/2026 12:24

Thanks so much for all the comments. It's really helpful and good to know it's not just me who struggles. I've been reading a lot about reducing inflammation (a problem with autoimmune diseases.) Now to decide on Wegovy or Mounjaro...any thoughts very welcome!

  • I have Hashimotos and am 55 yrs, 5’6, been on MJ since August 2025. Was already on thyroid meds and MHRT, had been eating healthy and exercising for ten years and only ever able to lose and regain the same 10 lb. Am now 55 lb down from previous highest weight of 197 lb.
  • Yes, it has absolutely helped: pain, energy levels, swelling, inflammation all huge improvement
  • I didn’t want to drink wine for the first 5 months and was on 1200-1400 calories a day, around 80-100g protein, lots of plants so good fibre and lots of water plus electrolytes. I was already weight training but I have been able to go harder/heavier with the MJ reducing pain and tiredness.
  • sleep is really important and if I do not get 7 hours I really feel it
  • Now I’m almost at goal I do drink wine on Fridays and Saturdays and my calories are around 1500-1800 daily.
  • I worked my way up to 10mg. Stay on the lowest dose that works for you as long as you can. The first ten days typically see more dramatic weight loss - it’s mostly water loss. 1-2 lb a week is safe and has best results. Dramatic weight loss can lead to hair loss and excessive muscle loss.
  • Weight/resistance training is REALLY important. Loads of YouTube videos. Grab a mat and some cans of beans or two bottles of wine to use as dumbbells, throw a towel on the living room floor and make yourself do 20 mins every day.
good luck, best thing I ever did for myself

Wow pumpernickel, you look fantastic. And great to hear that you didn't completely lose your appetite and can still enjoy a glass of wine here and there. Your story sounds so similar to mine in terms of losing and gaining the same 10lbs over again.

I do a fair bit of weight training (3x week) and lift fairly heavy now, was hoping this might shift it but hasn't really in spite of me following body coach. It's hard as I genuinely do stay within calorie deficit and yet nothing seems to be shifting it. Demoralising! I think I may go with Wegovy just from a cost perspective
