Anyone reducing Mounjaro doses before stopping treatment next month?

Anyone moving down doses in the hope of coming of in the next month or so.
I think I've gone as far as I can with weight loss on monjroro
Ive only lost a stone in the last 5 months..and I'm paying £300 a month for the privilege

When did you start? What have you lost in total? What dose are you on? Why are you paying so much?

Kitt1 · 14/05/2026 18:00

I won’t hit goal for another couple of months but I’m not planning on coming off after that for at least a year minimum.

How long have you been on MJ? How much weight have you lost in total? I’m assuming the 1 stone loss you’re referring to is near to your goal weight?

Have you worked out your current TDEE and stuck to a calorie limit or just eating less of the foods you normally eat?

Or has it not worked for you at all?

8books · 14/05/2026 18:19

I think I’ve got another 1.5 months to go before starting maintenance, so not quite yet.

It’s a shame to quit before reaching your goal…

Did you change what you ate during that time? Have you moved up the doses too? And tried using My Fitness Pal if you need to track calories?

Thatsenoughnowmr · 15/05/2026 10:24

I'm not sure what to do ..weight loss is very slow but I don't want to put it back in either

Ah, that makes more sense now.

As you’ve lost a lot of weight on it, I’d be wary of coming off it cold turkey style and consider staying on it for longer term maintenance for at least a year or so, whilst steadily reducing the dose.

It’s very clear that for many of us who were actually obese to start with, we can’t lose or even maintain our weight just by limiting calories and exercising lots and still need the extra metabolic support that MJ provides.

Reading some of the re-starters posts on here, there are people who put a lot of the weight back on fairly rapidly after going cold turkey and found that MJ is less effective the second time around and that would seriously worry me.

Nearly50omg · 15/05/2026 11:36

Unfortunately you need to stay on the MJ or you will put all the weight back on again

Thatsenoughnowmr · 15/05/2026 13:19

But if our eating stays the same ,no extra calories..we won't put weight on

I've been reducing dose by 3 less clicks a fortnight, was going ok but I dropped below 5mg and was noticeably hungrier, I've gained for the past 2 weeks, so I'm going back up to 5mg and see how that goes. I've been taking since June 24 and lost 7.5 stone. I'm terrified of going it alone, I really don't like the hunger.

Is worse than before you went on the jabs

Hello OP! I'm currently titrating down from 10mg with the plan of coming off eventually but I'm taking it very slowly. I'm down to 5 so far. I reached my goal in March, I've gone below that to build in some wiggle room. You could come over to the maintenance thread which has been started in the >5st to lose group and chat in there if you like.

BTW to another poster it's not very helpful to come on this thread and say people will definitely certainly absolutely put all the weight back on if they come off. The assorted scaremongery headlines a few months ago were based on a recent study but it used some quite historic data (mostly of ozempic and even older WLIs) from various trials where people went up to the highest doses fast, didn't titrate down, weren't supported once they came off or even followed or beyond about 6 months etc. Because that's how the trials were run. The scientists conducting the study admit in the paper that they've extrapolated long term weight regain trajectory from the limited timescale follow-up data they had to go on.

Sorry, but that’s simply not true for most of us using WLI to tackle serious obesity issues.

The problem for most of us is that the old trope;

“eat less/move more equals weight loss”

simply doesn’t work for a huge number of women especially those who have entered peri-menopause or menopause.

We have additional hormone related issues that affects our metabolism and that’s why even sticking to low calorie diets, people are still putting the weight back on again.

MJ doesn’t just suppress your appetite but it works in a myriad of other ways and it also helps to metabolise food more effectively. Without taking some version of a GLP-1, many of us will put the weight back on again. My GP prescribes my MJ and she was very clear that I understood all this before I started taking the medication.

Thatsenoughnowmr · 16/05/2026 20:42

I guess I didn't think things through properly before I went on it .
My first provider pushed me up the doses every month
I'm thinking of trying to come down to 12 mg and see if I can manage on that ,then take it from there .try to come down a dose each month
Probably more sensible than going straight of it

10 stones loss is INCREDIBLE. Do you think you could have done that without MJ? So its not unreasonable to think you will need it to maintain, at least for as long as you were on it so your body can get used tp such a drastic change.
I do think the best thing would be to decrease very slowly, increase activity if needed/possible and taper down to a lower more affordable dose for a while

MeridaBrave · 17/05/2026 21:01

i would do a few things. Firstly weigh / record everything you eat and titrate down slowly. Work out what dose you can take and not be hungry at maintenance calories .

AmaraCollins · Yesterday 21:11

A stone in 5 months is still solid progress, even if it feels slower now 🌱 I’ve seen a lot of people start tapering down once they feel close to where they want to be. I’m using Wegovy through an online weight loss programme, and the cost side definitely makes you rethink things long term too ✨

SerenitySeeker4 · Yesterday 21:13

I'd be tempted to do the same. A stone in 5 months is still progress, but £300 a month is a lot if the results have slowed down. Maybe worth trying a lower dose and seeing how your appetite and weight respond before stopping completely.

All you can do is try only you know your body. But remember you have done amazing I’m looking to start to come down next month I don’t want to be on it forever and I want to take control and be responsible for my own now much better eating habits
