Has anyone restarted weight loss injections after a year in maintenance?

I'm interested to see if anyone has decided to re-start WLI after a year in maintenance?
I commenced Saxenda in May 2023, and reached my target of a healthy bmi (25) in March 2025. I lost 7.5st in total.
Since March, I have generally maintained - gained 3lb over Christmas, lost it again through Jan/Feb/early March. But now I've got a 3lb gain again from late March/April (because I tried to eat in a slight calorie surplus to gain muscle - with no effect despite 120-140g protein per day and progressive overload!). Yes, I know I can lose it again, but my God it was hard losing it earlier this year and I just don't want to put myself through this cycle endlessly. Particulalry knowing that there will be gains around holidays and Christmas.
I calorie count every single day. I excercise by weight lifting and running plus walking (and have been for over 2 years). If I didn't exercise my calories to maintain are 1400. Because I do, I can maintain around 1800. To cut, I've only been able to cut to 1600 this time, because I will fall off the wagon if I go lower. That's why it took me 3 months to lose 3lb - a 200 cal deficit per day is painfully slow weight loss!
So, today I decided to re-order and make it much easier to manage this weight loss phase.
My God, it is exhausting, but I'm totally committed to keeping this weight off. Anyone else decided to recommence after this long off?

I don’t really understand you’re building muscle so would, likely see a small gain and the rest is fluid, most go up and down 2lbs naturally. Do you think maybe you’ve become over focused on it?

It isn't muscle, I've been tracking my muscle since going to the gym, and this is just body fat gain. My measurements suggest the same too.

So my target weigh was 9st 11, and I got to 9st 8 which gave me some wiggle room. I'm now 3lb above my target weight with daily tracking to know my average and take in to account water/food/hormones etc.
It's definitely body fat gain.

I don't understand why you need to go back on them to lose 3lb/maintain when you've been maintaining successfully for a year? I get that it's exhausting and if you just want to rest from the constant vigilance I do understand that (I'm not ready to come off, or even titrate down very low to maintain) but you've been doing it so the extra expense seems disproportionate?

MrsMiagi · 11/05/2026 12:22

Have you eaten 3 pounds worth of additional calories, above your tdee, to actually gain 3 pounds of fat? Seems extreme to go back on for 3 pounds when you are weight training. Body composition scales often aren't very accurate and it seems like you are doing right things

The only way to accurately track muscle vs fat is a DEXA scanner or water displacement

I've been on it 3 weeks now and the 3lb is gone and I feel SO much better and happier with not being consumed by thoughts of food (even though I was able to mostly control them, it was fucking exhausting). Its lovely to wake up and not have food the first thing on my mind. I'm planning to stay on this for as long as i need now. I'm on the 3rd dosage of 6 and that seems a nice spot for me. It's not turning off hunger or food noise completely, but enough dullness that I'm able to use my self control.

I have stayed on MJ however I have done a mini bulk since October: I estimate I gained 1kg muscle and 2-3kg of fat which is a good ratio - my guess is despite the scales you have gained some muscle even 1kg of muscle is a massive win (are you able to lift more?)

I’m starting a mini cut in July before summer holiday. Will up the MJ from my 2mg maintenance dose to around 3.75mg.

Where did you get it from? The same prescriber that you were dealing with before?

I am considering this as I have been off for 6 months and really struggling, although I haven’t ordered for coming up to a year as I had a stockpile and was click counting to titrate down.

I wasn’t sure I’d get a maintenance prescription anywhere after all this time as I am a healthy BMI

Ask Swift as long as you have evidence of earlier prescription, and you will have to start again at 2.5mg.

Thanks. Will it matter my last prescription is almost a year old? Will I need to have a consultation ?

Usually say a year, email and ask explain only really 6 months. But consultation only £30 and gives you £10 off each subsequent pen.

Did you lie about your weight to get it op?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 02/06/2026 22:16

I got mine through Asda. No need to lie about my weight. They just wanted proof I'd been on it before. Managed to get my last prescription from previous provider. My last script was more than a year ago. There was no issue, all went through smoothly.

Why would she have to lie, she says she previously lost 7.5 stone.

EdinaTheConfessor · 04/06/2026 18:10

I have just ordered from Swift.
I emailed with all my info, details of my weight loss, current BMI, last jab, last prescription etc and they emailed me back saying I should be eligible and to follow the link for an on line consultation. So I submitted all my details, including a video etc and am just waiting now.

Fingers crossed but my DH wasn’t impressed. He obviously sees me at the weight I am now and can’t comprehend why I’d want to go back on them. He doesn’t understand the constant food noise and the hunger from the miniscule amount I need to eat to maintain my weight. It is exhausting and I have no doubt the weight will continue to creep up if I don’t do this.

EdinaTheConfessor · 04/06/2026 18:14

Literally just had the email though to say I’ve been approved.
That was a lot easier than I was expecting.

Daineee · 05/06/2026 21:39

I actually went back on Mounjaro after trying a break because maintenance felt harder than I expected. I use the programme support mainly for the check-ins and keeping an eye on progress, which helps me stay consistent without overthinking it. For me it’s more about small daily habits like meals and walking rather than anything strict.

Did you re-start on 2.5? Did you have any weight to lose and if so how quickly did you find the jabs kicked in with that?

I would ideally like to lose 7lb and then maintain that. And ideally before my summer hols in July!
