Considering weight loss injections at 63: where to start and costs

Hi everyone. I’m fat!! I’m 63 and fed up with always feeling like this. I’ve done slimming world so many times and seem to lose about a stone and then get fed up at class.

So I really want to do something drastic and get rid of the blubber.

So I’m seriously thinking of going down the injection route. I have a minimum of 3 stone to lose. I’m not so much a snacker but definitely drink far too much wine.
So where do I begin? How do I start and what prices should I expect to pay?
Please tell me all the good, bad and ugly. Thank you

Hi… I can thoroughly recommend Mounjaro… I started last October, have lost just over 3 stone that I gained in menopause and really couldn’t shift on my own… now maintaining and gradually reducing dose.

you do need to be prepared that you might need it long term, not just as a quick fix and then stop, but it is really effective for many people.

I'm 61 and have been on Mounjaro for just over a year. I've lost three and a half stone and I feel so much better for it. It's been effortless and I've had zero side effects. I'd highly recommend it.

I have to say, though, that while it's reduced my appetite for food it hasn't done anything to reduce my wine consumption. I'd probably have lost more by now if it had!

The good - as above
the bad - cost…. But you can shop around check out monj.co.uk
the ugly - side effects vary… nausea like morning sickness, stomach cramps, d&v, fatigue it e, feeling cold are all talked about as well as rare more serious effects BUT they don’t affect everyone…..

Mounjaro or Wegovy? Is there much difference?
Where do I purchase from? Any recommendations please

Mounjaro is more effective but also more expensive.
They will start you on 2.5 which is currently around 150- 160 pounds a month.
As a new starter you will receive a discount from most places buit after that t goes up.
I order from Med express as they seemed the most " official " and am currently paying 180 a month for 5mg.
Its a lot but so so worth it. It has got my binge eating under control and I can literally feel the difference once I have injected.

I’m 58 and started last July. I’ve lost 3.5 stone and about to start maintenance. It’s such a great feeling to go to the GP and see your numbers are all in normal range and that your jeans are down 2 sizes! Bad stuff for me has been tummy upset but it’s never been so bad that I would consider stopping.

Mounjaro mimics two hormones related to appetite whereas Wegovy only mimics one, which is why Mounjaro showed better results (more weight lost on average) in the clinical trials compared to Wegovy. But both produced significant weight loss so if cost is a large factor then you could try Wegovy and see how you get on.

The Monj.co.uk website lists pharmacies that are all GPhC registered, so legitimate sites. Any of them would be fine to order from. A few operate a subscription model where they will automatically charge and the send you the next months prescription. They can be cheap initially but can get very expensive after the first month.

Medicine Market Place is often in the cheapest few pharmacies, they don’t do additional discounts they just are generally cheaper. Otherwise you could pick a one that has a good new customer deal, and then swap to another pharmacy after that to avoid the non-discounted price.

I’m nearly 62 and today is my 1st Mounjaro anniversary. I currently use Swift Dr, who seem excellent and claim to be ‘doctor led’, whatever that means.

I lost 4st in 9 months and have been maintaining at a low dose since then. I was lucky in that I never needed to go high up the doses and I had very minimal side effects.

I definitely recommend Mounjaro! It has changed my life.

Lifecircle · 24/04/2026 15:48

I'm a similar age to you.
I started Mounjaro just over a year ago and my target was to lose 2 stone. It took me 3 months to lose the 1st stone and 4 months to lose the second stone. I reached my target on Xmas Day.
I feel so much healthier and more confident after years of various slimming clubs.
I have pretty much stuck with Med Express throughout.
It's been worth every penny spent but it's not cheap.
I was a wine drinker before and have still drank alcohol but switched to gin and slimline tonic.
My dose of Mounjaro never went above 3.5 mgs so I've been able to save money by purchasing the lower dose pens.
Go for it.Life is short!!

DottyMcDiet · 24/04/2026 15:59

I started a year ago when I was 56, I’ve been taking Mounjaro for a year and have lost nearly 6 stone, I’ve 2 more to go.

It’s really helped with my wine consumption which was one of my worst vices.

Thistleton · 24/04/2026 16:27

I started on MJ last year - 63yo.

Minimal side effects (though I started on less than half a dose and increased very slowly just in case) and I've lost a little over 2 stone, which was enough for me.

I'm so glad I took the plunge and though it's expensive it's worth every penny for me. I'm loving feeling fitter, healthier and slimmer.

Op

try monj.co.uk for pricing. Factor in you don’t decide what dose works for you, your body does, there is no way to tell, it maybe 5mg, it maybe 15, you will onky know when on the medication,

Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/04/2026 19:31

It’s changed my life at age 45.
despite a year of perimenopause and devastating grief, a stressful job and other health conditions, I have lost 30% of my body weight! 40kg off! I am now the weight I was when I got married 20years ago.
My BMI 46 to begin. I’m now 32 and still going but I can actually run!

Good luck to you!
if you would like a discount code to get £100off from Numan, private message me.
