I’m 110kg at 5’8

what sort of weight loss should I expect and how will I know if I need to change my dose?

The weight loss works differently for everyone and depends on so many factors.
I did well for a few weeks on the initial dose then realised I felt less full and had more food noise, which coincided with a plateau so I went up to a half dose but after a week I could tell I needed more so am going up to the next dose this week.
This forum is excellent for support. I saw that there's an April 2026 starters thread so it would be good to join that.

The weight loss should average out at around 1 to 2lbs per week. You may find that you get a big loss in the first week before it settles down. But it affects everyone differently and the 2.5mg starting dose doesn't produce significant weight loss for everyone, so patience might be needed. The medication builds in your system each week, as not all of it has gone by the time you do the next injection. You can track an estimate of the amount in your system using apps like Shotsy, Dose Diary or online GLP1 plotters.

When you come to reorder, if you are losing weight consistently and still feeling the effects of the medication (less appetite, feeling fuller quicker etc) then you could stay on the dose you're on. If your weight loss is slowing or you only feel the effects of the medication for a day or two, or not at all, then consider moving up.

I can only share how it worked for me. First month I lost 9 pounds, then following month 6 pounds, eventually settled to 1 pound a week sometimes less, but after 18 months I went from 14 stone 10 to 8 stone 10 and a size 24 to a size 8/10 (I am 5ft 3) some weeks I stayed the same and I had a stall for about 6 weeks but kept on and it came off, everyone's journey is different, not sure if my loss was slower as I had type 2 diabetes, I have heard its not as fast if you have insulin resistance as it works on that first. Good luck

It is very individual op. There is no level to expect.

you need to go on a diet, the drug enables you to do that, eat in a defecit, and eat clean and healthy, too much fat or sugar will see you have gastro effects and likely end your journey,

protiotise protein, drink three litres of water a day, do strength training, ensure you protect muscle and lose fat.

dont be tempted to lose faster than 2lbs per week. The drug is not to enable rapid weight loss, but prolonged and consistent.

the optimal dose for you no one can guess. Could be 5 could be 10, who knows.

if you don’t feel suppressed and you are craving foods, then move up a dose.

Don’t increase your dose each month if you are successfully losing each week. You want to go slow and steady. I never went higher than 5mg and can now maintain. Someone I know went straight up to 15mg month by month and is now struggling to reduce to a lower level.
You’ll find your food tastes change, for the better! You will want to eat better and be more mindful of putting nutrition in. I once read it takes 6 months to override poor eating habits and it helped me a lot. I know stick to my basic, nutritious meals and feel great.
good luck on your journey! It’s your time to understand how to fuel your body and look after it

Interestingly you happen to be my exact starting weight and height. As pp have said, though, everyone's experience is different. Age has an impact as well. I was 53 when I started.

For me I lost 2-3lbs a week in the first couple of months. Then settled down to around 2 a week. I lost 4 stone in the first six months, then it took another six months to lose the final 2 stone. I hit my goal pretty much exactly after one year on MJ. I'm now tapering down.

I did one 2.5 pen, three 5, three 7.5 and then stayed at 10 for the rest. I'm back down to 5 now. I only moved up when I felt things slowing down and the return of hunger.

Had a few mild gastric side effects at the beginning and when I moved up to 5mg. I'm careful not to eat too late in the evening and know which foods can trigger issues.

I've focused on protein and fibre, and have used hand weights at home from the start. I've also kept an eye on my TDEE as I've lost but I don't rigidly count calories and weigh everything, I ballpark it. I also weigh every day which gives me insight into the natural variations and the fact the loss will never be linear.

The monthly support threads are good as @MoneyJo mentioned and you could come and join us on the more than 5 stone to lose thread as well if you wanted.

Good luck!

The weight loss you achieve will completely depend on how much you change your lifestyle and eating habits. It’s not a magic wand.

reluctantbrit · 21/04/2026 08:28

As PP said, it depends a lot on factors.

A healthy weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week after the initial one which can be higher.

I only did 2.5mg for one month, it's more designed to get your body used to it and start the journey. I am on 5mg now for 7 months and have lost 25kg in total, I started at just below 100kg.
I don't see a need to increase, the only times I feel I should is when I eat not enough protein and I am hungrier faster than I normally are.

You have to overhaul your diet, while I didn't cut carbs totally, I eat a lot less, I find that protein and healthy fats like Greek yoghurt fill me up longer than a slice of toast.
But that is also a preparation for the time you have reached goal and want to maintain. You may also find that certain foods don't agree with you anymore, fried and fatty is most likely one culprit.

Be prepared to drink a lot, the jab makes you thirsty. I drink around 3l a day, a mix of water, black tea and lemon/ginger tea with the odd juice thrown in.

Side effects depend again on the person. I had periods with slight nausea where I felt I couldn't eat but they were at the beginning and I hadn't had one in months. For me constipation is the biggest problem.

Thank you all so much

I understand I need to change my eating (and drinking) habits. If I staying with my partner I tend to not have breakfast, I have a lunch if wraps and fruit and then pasta or similar he cooks for tea

At my house I either have a jacket for lunch and nothing else, or I have egg on toast or similar for tea.

We have stuff around the office that I need to start avoiding and I know I need to reducing my alcohol intake too.

I also need to move more. I’ve gone from a district nurse out and about to a more office based nursing sister. My plan is to walk with DP - weather is nicer now and there’s some lovely parks locally. I joined the local gym but the first time I went the women were horrible. Rude, barging me out of the way and 2 of them there taking selfies etc and looking over at me, whispering and laughing - I really don’t want to go back (when about 10 times in total) as I feel so uncomfortable and out of place there

Please don't let rude people affect what you choose to do to improve your health. Go back to the gym (if you want), put your earbuds in and use whatever equipment you want. Good luck reaching your goals.
