Experiences of weight loss injections with ME, fibromyalgia and POTS?

Has anyone started weight loss medication and also suffer from the above.
seen some anecdotal evidence that it can help with symptoms of ME, Fibromyalgia, pots etc, and wondering others experiences of this?

I could lose a few lbs (overweight slightly) but more tempted to pay for them if they ease my chronic conditions.
slightly worried they will take away one of my few daily joys of looking forward to / nice dinner.

thoughts?

I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and it did ease alot of pain almost instantly from the first injection. With a week or two I had a significant reduction. My rheumatologist was impressed and agreed it was the GLP-1 reducing inflammation.

Yes it definitely helps with inflammation, but if you're a foodie then unfortunately it does rather dull your appetite, I mean that's the point of it, I went from loving food to indifference at best , some people however can still enjoy food, in my group lots of people still enjoyed food just in smaller quantities and found they preferred 'cleaner' food, greasy and fried food is hard to stomach on mounjaro and can lead to stomach upsets so best avoided. if you get the balance right and experiment with doses, I have only ever taken a small dose and still do just for the benefits of mj other than weight loss.
It is hard to get the balance right though, I don't want to lose weight but it keeps coming off because that's what mounjaro does, even on a tiny dose.

Thanks for your reply.
did you find it instant then, not a side effect of weighing less = less pressure on joints?

I am intrigued but also my body reacts so strangely sometimes I am concerned about negative effects.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

that’s really helpful, I suppose I could try a month on month trial and see how it goes. I am just above the line for being eligible to get them, so I am worried about over losing weight,

I often have a low appetite as it is, particularly when in a flare, then other times could eat and eat, I think I can cope with the lack of appetite, it is more if it makes food less enjoyable if that makes sense?

It reduced inflammation and happened with 1 to 2 weeks of my first jab so definitely nothing to do with weighing less.

@Otterloverfrenchielady relief was instant for me too, I lost half a stone in my first week, of course this was water weight and contributing massively to the inflammation, all you can do is try.
Not to downplay the side effects either , they were not very nice for me at the beginning, nausea, some vomiting, constipated, tiredness, some people report anodynia, and although these aren't the headline grabbing pancreatititis and gallstones that are bandied around in the media they're pretty unpleasant.

PearlsTeapot · 15/04/2026 19:30

I have fibre and noticed a massive difference almost instantly. No side effects for me except constipation which I manage. I've been on them since last May, lost over 4 stone but the decrease in inflammation has been life changing for me.

I still love my food. I can eat absolutely anything and everything. JUST much less of it. I was looking forward to my dinner tonight for example, Thai chicken wraps, and ate 2/3s the amount that DW and DS ate. I enjoyed every mouthful, even though it was a bit of a smaller amount. And now I'm going to have some cookie dough.

Side effects are one of my concerns, as I feel shitty most of the time I am not sure if I can cope with more symptoms 😭

@Otterloverfrenchielady to edit I meant anhedonia, although anodynia can be a side effect too, albeit a positive one.

The thing is- nobody can tell you whether you will have atrocious side effects or if you will be feeling great. It's very individual. But if you feel like shit you might as well give them a shot..

I completely understand that
More looking to gather some info from others experiences. Might help me swing one way or another.
It’s a big financial commitment too. If it was 90% this will help, I would pay ever spare penny I have.
a lot to weigh up (no pun intended 😆)

My osteoarthritis is worse. I’ve lost all the fat padding around my joints, my hips and lower back are constantly on fire, especially at night. I’ve had to go back on prescription painkillers to help me be comfortable at night. I’m 6 stone lighter though, and loving it!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Sorry about your pain :(

My only regret is not trying it sooner.

I was terrified of side effects so did 6 weeks on 1.25 before gradually going up to 2.5. That's an option.

apricotdreams · 15/04/2026 21:56

I seem to be the opposite. Started last Wednesday and the next day was in a lot of pain especially in legs. They having been painful everyday and previously my pain was not too bad unless in a flare. Hoping it’s just my system getting used to it
