GLP1 and. Travel insurance?

I’m tying myself in knots with this. I can’t find an insurer that actually lets you add GLP1 use. I’ve put in obesity as a condition, they ask my bmi (no longer obese) and that seems to be it. Some ask about CPAP but that’s it. I have another more complex condition so I my choices are limited but I really want to make sure this is covered. I don’t really want to take someone’s word over the phone.

Is there not a further section where you can declare any prescription medication that relates to the pre-existing condition? So say if you entered that you were T2 diabetic, you could then declare that you were prescribed insulin, metformin or Mounjaro for example?

I phoned my insurers and they made a note of it, and I asked for email confirmation of what they’d added so I had a record of it.

No, takes me straight to buy now without asking.

I guess it depends on the insurer. I have an annual policy with Admiral and was able to add it online as a prescribed medication. It cost me an additional £2.20 for the remaining 3 months of the policy.

Just randomly tried the StaySure website and they have Weight Loss Injections as a pre existing condition, as well as Obesity. It then asks if it’s for T2 diabetes or for weight management, and then asks some further questions.

I recently travelled to Europe and used Columbus who had Mounjaro listed as a med you needed to declare. Cost me an extra £8 though but wasn't willing to risk it in case I became ill while away.

I recently took a travel insurance policy with Admiral and it asked me about existing conditions and/or medication. I put WG in and it asked my current weight. Didn't change the existing price given.

Ah, that’s helpful as staysure is one of my preferred providers. I’ll try again, never thought of listing it as a condition, expected it to pop up as a screening qu for obesity

I’m with th4 post office, I just called they said list it as obesity, we don’t have it as it’s too new, but loads of calls. I said I’m a size 8, I’m not obese any more, but on for maintenance, she said yup, we are used to it.

Most of them have an option to ring them if you really want to be sure and talk to someone about it.
We have ours through our bank account with Aviva. You have to ring them. They said they put obesity and a note on my account even though I'm not obese anymore. She said it's their current policy. It doesn't affect the insurance at all - still covered the same.
Most insurance companies aren't worried about them now.

Janie934 · 10/04/2026 14:27

I have travel insurance with my bank account - the underlying policy is with Aviva and there's an option to declare conditions. One of the categories was weight loss injections and then it asked some questions. I know some others haven't yet caught up and say to declare the condition as obesity.

DoleWhipDiva · 16/04/2026 07:28

I had an annual policy with Admiral that i needed to update as started MJ. It says online in the FAQs if you are using WLI you need to select obesity as a pre existing condition - that's all. i did this an had to pay an extra £13 to be covered.

highlydoubtful · 16/04/2026 07:59

I rang my insurance company to declare it and they told me I don’t need to - it’s covered. They also said that their calls are recorded so if I ever had any issues, there was a clear record of me letting them know.
