Starting Mounjaro and wondering about supplements to help prevent hair loss

Hi all, I was approved this morning for Mounjaro so will hopefully be starting within the next week. I’ve read online that hair loss can be an issue. Are there any supplements that you would recommend taking from the beginning? I’ve seen good things about Viviscal and pumpkin seed oil. I already take multivitamins, omega 3, B12 and vitamin D.

Don't think so, it's weight loss and calorie deficit that causes hair loss not the injection. You'd lose hair whichever way you lost weight. It does come back though.

I took everything under the sun and still lost hair, not immediately but 4 months in but it's growing back now.

I had hair loss at around 3 months in, lasted for around 3 months and then resolved itself. Still on Mounjaro now many months later and have no issue with my hair. If I had started taking pumpkin oil, or some other supplement when the hair loss started, I could have convinced myself that the supplement made the difference to the hair loss, when in fact it was just a matter of time and self-resolving.

I thought it was only extreme calorie restriction that causes hair loss

It depends how much you have to lose and how restrictive your eating is. I was 19 stone and lost 9 and 1/2 between April 24-May 25. So just over 10 lbs a month. Never lost any hair. If anything it got shinier and thicker. However, I guess if you are already fairly slim starting at the bottom end of the prescription guidelines - then I imagine it’s a more likely side effect. Although tbh I know probably about 15-20 people on MJ at present and none appear to have hair loss as a side effect. Of the 8-10 people I know well enough. None including me - have had any side effects save some mild constipation once in a while. So it’s far from a given that you will lose hair .

Speed of weight loss is a key predictor of hair loss with all WLIs. It's a very common side effect with GLP1s. Eat a protein-rich, nutrient-dense diet and use a good biotin supplement.

They won't do any harm but there's no supplement which can prevent telogen effluvium (which is usually the cause of hair loss on WLI). The best prevention is to lose slowly, but if you have a lot to lose it may be impossible to avoid, I'm afraid. Mine was temporary.

Agree with PP who said it does resolve. I had it for about 4 months then it just settled.
