Mounjaro not working! Help!

puglover93 · 04/04/2026 18:55

So I’ve used Mounjaro the past 4 months, at the 2.5mg dose. First two months weight loss was good but not a lot (9lbs, starting weight was 14 stone for reference) Now, it’s totally stopped, I’ve put on the weight I lost and it’s literally not working at all!

Should I try the higher dose? Or switch to wegovy? It just seems odd because I’ve never heard of someone still taking Mounjaro, even at a low dose, who is has gained their loss back?

Feeling so disheartened because everyone else seems to do so well on MJ 😩 but the food noise and hunger are the same as when I’m not on it.

Anyone else had similar and what did you do?

Thank you xx

You need to go up the doses when the one you're on becomes ineffective. You're on the starter dose that's to get you going. They don't really expect you to lose weight at that dose (although many do). It's just to get your body used to the medication gradually

Mummyoftwinss23 · 04/04/2026 19:03

I don't think there's any point switching to another weight loss medication if you aren't following the reccomended dosing schedule.

Of course everyone is different and what works for some doesn't work for everyone but you know 2.5 worked for you and now it's not.

It's time to up the dose.

Mysticmaiden · 04/04/2026 19:11

There's no point switching to a weaker drug. You need to move upto 5mg, probably should have done it after the third month when it wasn't working as well. I've had to go upto 15mg in my journey and now back down to 5mg to maintain after a 4st 4lb weight loss.
2.5mg is just a starter dose to get your body used to the medication but if it wears off before the end of the week then it's time to move up. 2.5mg only lasted 2 weeks for me! 5mg lasted 5 weeks and 7.5mg upto 12.5mg only lasted 6-8 weeks each. I probably would have gained weight if I stayed on then after they stopped working because I was ravenous with hunger.

GodThatsBrilliant · 04/04/2026 19:12

Why haven’t you increased before now?

Divebar2021 · 04/04/2026 19:16

Im a bit confused about why you haven’t moved up. 2.5 is a dose to ease you into the drug. Some people respond very well and carry on at that dose for several months but I would suggest most move through the higher doses. I lost 4 stone and never went above 10mg but I moved on from 2.5 after the first month.

IndieRocknRoll · 04/04/2026 19:53

It is working, you’re just not taking it as recommended. I’m not sure why you’re surprised to be honest! The suppression wears off as your body gets used to it. That’s why you need to go up the doses.

Clefable · 04/04/2026 19:55

If you’re still at 2.5 then there’s your answer. Why haven’t you increased the dose? Seems weird to complain about it and regain 9 pounds when you are on the entry-level dose!

If your body gets used to it, how do people manage to maintain on 5mg?

Doses are titrated gradually to allow the body to adapt to Mounjaro. This minimises side effects etc. Most people find that their suppression wears off after a while on a certain dose. They may then move up.
Others might be highly sensitive to it, in terms or either side effects or suppression or both. They may also have a smaller amount of weight to lose. For these people sticking at 5mg may work.
I didn’t move any higher than 7.5mg but only had 1.5st to lose. 2.5mg is a sub therapeutic dose though. I only did 6 weeks of that. It’s not going to be particularly effective after 4-months.

Because as you lose weight, you are much smaller and insulin sensitivity increases which is how ive gone from 15mg in sept 25 bmi 25 to 5mg now bmi 22. I had to move down as the doses got too strong and couldn't eat much with high suppression. Going up the doses was the opposite issue for me, they wore off quickly and I was ravenous even with a higher protein diet amd tracked calories but I had a low deficit of 1000-1300 throughout my journey due to my age, height and lifestyle.

WappityWabbit · 05/04/2026 09:42

What was your plan when starting WLI?

Have you consciously altered your existing eating habits? Simply put, if you’re not eating in calorie deficit, you won’t lose weight.

Mounjaro works by suppressing your food urges and slowing digestion helping you to feel full for longer. Sounds like you need to increase your dose to 5mg and see how that affects you. Some people find that they need to go up to 7.5mg or even 10mg before feeling adequate suppression. Every body is different and you need to listen to yours.

If you focus on good quality meals with high protein, low carb and consuming less food overall, you will definitely lose weight. Don’t give up!

Woo383040 · 05/04/2026 11:48

I agree that you need to up your dose. Mounjaro works mostly by aiding you to eat less. If 2.5mg is no longer doing that you need to up the dose strength. Everyone is different in the strength needed for weight loss, and everyone’s experience is different. You need to go up to find what works for you. You know it works for you because it did initially.

Wildgoat · 06/04/2026 06:44

Op, you need to diet when on mounjaro, are you doing this? The drug doesn’t melt the fat off, it enables you to stick to a diet.

Whatsnextforbea · 06/04/2026 06:47

How bizarre.

You aren’t taking it properly but blaming it for not working.

Oh yeah, I just spotted that, she’s on 2.5 which is a half a dose to initiate treatment, no wonder it’s not working. 😂

reluctantbrit · 07/04/2026 16:19

Apart from increasing the dose, are you in a calorie deficit?

I am on 5mg since August, just stayed on 2.5mg for the first month and lost a total of 24kg by now. I prefer to have less surpression to teach myself good habits about food and especially snacking.

I can still stay in a 500cal deficit, I aim for 1200-1300 a day and that means I loose between 1-2lb per week on average.

TheChosenTwo · 08/04/2026 07:56

Another one wondering why you’ve stayed on 2.5mg for so long without moving up when you weren’t seeing results?
I did the opposite, moved up each month for the first few, lost 3 stone in 3 months (starting weight was 16st so I had a lot to lose) and then stayed on 7.5 for a couple and 10 for a couple and then moved up, had been on 15mg for about 8 months and now testing the waters moving down, trying to find that sweet spot as I’ve called target now.

Zempy · 08/04/2026 08:36

I don’t understand. Why haven’t you increased your dose in line with the standard advice/protocol? Did your health care provider advise you to stick to the starter dose even though it wasn’t working?
