Are any of you many months in and had friends and/or family start WLIs after seeing how it's worked for you?

I'm just over a year in and never kept it a secret. Was told by all of them to 'be careful' etc etc. All the doubtful comments.
Only now they are all jumping on the bandwagon and have started as well I'm genuinely delighted for them and really hope they have success. But whilst I was solo and had to deal with it by myself - the change of diet, the side effects (I was lucky but did have the mild ones) plus no one really to talk about it with, now I am in the firing line for all their conversation about it! And they are like the first people to ever go through it.

I don't mind, yes I humour them. Of course they don't want my advice. I don't mind but it does make me chuckle🙄😂

Apologies for the typo in the title! New phone doesn't know me yet!

I'm over a year in, everyone is on it but no one is talking about it, probably because it's not legit stuff, glad we all look good though 😂

You mean the research peptide thing sold by non pharmacists/doctors?
If so, you're braver/more foolish than me.

Anyway, back to the point of the thread....

Yes - 3 relatives have started since I did.... I don't mind at all, it's worked so well for me that I am evangelical about it.
They weren't nearly as overweight as me, but it's worked well for them too.

Darahsdimg · 03/04/2026 23:15

@Sloelydoesit yep the peptide stuff, the point being that we're taking glps right? Sooo yes I'm a guinea pig, and yes it's worked, I've lost 5 and a half stones

I don’t know another person who is currently losing weight or is using Mounjaro or Wegovy. As far as I know it’s just been me in my friends and family.

Really?!?? Everyone is on it to varying degrees in my world

SilenceInside · 03/04/2026 23:31

Yes really. People live in different environments, it’s interesting to see how different. I don’t know anyone who would buy black market drugs from illegitimate sources and be open about it, for example.

I don't mind at all either!
I'm fact I'm super happy and evangelise also to a point.
I'm just chuckling because they are at the beginning and I'm what it feels like a million months in. I'm happy to support them but also remembering they thought I was a nutter this time last year!

Yes - I did have cries of "omg really?!" when I first told them I was on it - and most people said something along the lines of "but won't you put it all on again when you stop the jabs?" (like every other diet I've ever been on then!)
After about 6 months on it, they were all like "I want it!"
I probably will be on a maintenance dose long term I think - and my sis says the same.

I think also I will always need it. Whatever maintenance looks like and how the drugs will develop long term. I was truly very obsessed. I didn't have health problems as a result but they were on the cards. I'm so glad that now I am beginning to realise how much food I really need every day and the quality of the food.
Also happy that my friends and family are realising the same!
Fingers crossed for a healthier life

I do miss the food I used to eat. I can't deny it. I have got a long way to go mentally.

That's also what my f&f don't realise. They are all thinking it's a short term quick fix at the moment. And they don't yet realise that the fat doesn't just disappear off your midriff first which is where they focus on when they look at themselves.

It’s a shame you’ve such foolish and judgemental people round you.

I started a couple of years ago, I told everyone, discussed it in advance with husband and daughter and gp. Went on, now have four friends and husband on it, no one judged me or was negative and I didn’t feel as you did that I had to deal with it on my own or I was a guinea pig,

i was happy to make my decision, discuss it, but felt strongly it was my decision, my journey. And still feel that strongly, it is an invidual decision and path not a group activity.

as for missing the food I used to eat, I still eat the same stuff. I eat a health blamed diet, in health portions, if I fancy a bit of chocolate or whatever, I have it. Just a small amount, I don’t miss anything.

i lost 6 and a half stone and maintaning for over a year on a maintence dose.

i find the whole thing hugely positive, so im sorry you feel like a guinea pig who was on their own and got judgemental comments,

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 04/04/2026 12:21

No, I didn’t feel like a guinea pig at all, and I wouldn’t with any other prescribed medication either. These drugs were tested by the human guinea pigs long before you were prescribed them.

It sounds like you are missing the initial euphoric learning phase of starting treatment yourself and want to be part of their experience where have started closer together and you feel a bit left out, or annoyed they are not seeking your sage advice. To compensate for that feeling of missing out you are trying to frame it as though you were a trend leader.

Really it doesn't matter when anyone chose to medicate their obesity, in the end they are doing exactly what you did, made the decision when they felt ready/comfortable.

I'm not a guinea pig at all but my DH and a close friend are now on it after seeing how great I've done and feel. They're the only two people who know I'm on it as I've not shared it with anyone else.

Similar - my OH and I were both on diets then after a month I decided to try MJ. It was very successful so my OH joined me about a month after I started. Not as a guinea pig, but just because it worked for me.
