Sudden severe gastro effects after 3 years?!

Hello

I have been on WLI for 3 years (MJ for the last 2 years). I have lost 7 stone and am now a healthy weight.

I've still been taking 15mg as I find so far I get hungry around day 5 if my dose is much lower.

A week past yesterday, not long after taking my dose, I experienced SULPHUR BURPS for the first time ever. This was followed by explosive diorrhea and gas.

The burps went after a few days but the diorrhea and gas remain, over a week later. (So can't be something I ate or a bug?) I had to take immodium yesterday as I had a meeting to attend. Otherwise I'm having to stay close to a toilet (and even get up during the night for explosions!)

Obviously I skipped yesterday's dose of MJ.

WTF is this?! Is it MJ related or something else entirely? When the hell will it go away and at what point do I need to get a Dr? I have Dioralyte on hand as I must be losing a lot of fluid.

Thanks

(There's no way I'm throwing away the rest of this 15mg MJ pen, it's worth ££!) So I'm powering through at least until the end of the pen.

That's me over halfway through the week following my 7.5mg dose. Gasto effects have subsided but I'm a bit hungry!

Going to cut right down on sugar, carbs and fat and increase protein. (fat causes diorrhea and protein should help prevent hunger) Hope body gets used to a lower dose. Plus exercise will help so can do some of that now the weather is nicer.

Various digestive remedies also on order for when I take my next dose!

fat causing diarrhoea is one of the symptoms I had After 3-4 months on mj. Also had sulphur burps. Turned out I had absolutely horrific gallstones from the extreme sudden weight loss of 44lb going very quickly. Apparently losing weight frees up cholesterol from fat stores and this forms stones in your gall bladder? I was pretty out of it when the surgeon explained the exact science but defo worth it being checked out.

Thanks! It must be an INCREDIBLY delayed reaction if that's what it is as I really feel my body has been stable for months on end. Also I didn't lose the weight particularly fast. Will go and do some research tho.

Would be bloody typical if I end up in hospital with gallstones or pancreatitis or something!

The sonography said I was the most productive type of gal stone patient. I was like “what?!” Then she got me with Fs…..Fat, female, fertile ( had children) and forty plus. I tried not to take it to heart but damn she could have been a bot more gentle 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

It was time for me to take my next dose, was getting a bit hungry and it had been nearly a week.

Took 7.5mg. Had a slight sulphur taste so took some Pepto Bismal.

Am a little gassy but nothing awful.

I have also just been diagnosed with gallstones after 2 yrs on mounjaro, hope it's not that. An ultrasound would tell you.

I’ve been on MJ about two years, not lost particularly well (2.5 stone, 12 stone weight now), but not had so much as a smidge of a side effect.

Am up to 15, had been considering tapering down since I haven’t really lost anything for months, but have suddenly been hit with sulphur burps and D&V to a horrible extent. Would like to think it is a bug, but no one else in the house is affected after nearly 3d

I know I ate stupidly the night of my Injection - ate v late, and had a lot of cheese for the first time in years. Hoping that’s it, and that I will get over this and carry on … but I have a horrible feeling that once the body is sensitised, the side effects will return with every dose. I’ll go down to 12.5 next week and hope for the best

I’m on wegovy but thought I’d share.

I do tend to have gastric issues…. I’ve had my gallbladder out due to gallstones, I’m on Lansoprazole for GORD, have been treated for hyelobecter ( I know that’s spelt wrong!) at least twice, and when I had a huge fibroid it caused gastric issues as I think it was pressing on certain organs. (I had a hysterectomy for that.) I was possibly a bit naive when I started on wegovy given my history!

anyway I’ve been on it for about 4 months. I’ve stayed at 1 mg for past couple of months as it appeared to be working at that.

about a month back I was away in wales for a few days and relaxed the diet a bit. One night I had a few glasses of wine and had the most humongous acid reflux attack. However that was a warning not to drink too much wine on wegovy!

more recently within 2 weeks I had a severe migraine (I do get them but rarely….the last one was before lockdown) and 2 episodes of severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. I had to take 2 separate episodes of sick leave from work (one of them happened on my day off) and I’m very rarely off work sick.

this was all on a medium dose and while I’d been on it for some time.

I get them from Boots and rang them and it’s agreed I would inject my remaining doses less often then when I run out request a lower dose. If it carries on at a lower dose I’ll have to stop and/or change to mountjaro.

I have lost 1 stone 5lbs but slowly but I think that it’s going at a healthy rate. However I don’t want to continue if it keeps giving me such side effects. Although I’ve not been on it as long as you, it’s odd that I’m getting such side effects after some time.

Update: this week I cut back from 15 to 10 when I jabbed on Monday, and ate very, very lightly. This morning I have slight sulphur burps and upset tum, but dealable with.

Hoping this is as bad as it gets from now on

friendlycat · 27/05/2026 21:54

I’m a year in and have had to reduce down from 12.5 to 7.5 for a few weeks. All of a sudden I’ve experienced terrible pains with D&V but I can see the pattern.

It’s when I’ve been out for lunch and then had something again in the evening. But I’ve had pudding or cakes or rich food. The next day my stomach just wants it all violently evacuated. It’s extremely unpleasant and I hope that now I’m aware of it I can head it off. But I’m wary and I’ve got at least 2 more stone to shift.

I switched from Wegovy to Mounjaro for my long-term health and had the sulphur burps and awful tummy issues after moving up too 😩 it really caught me off guard because I’d been fine before that. Mine did calm down eventually, but I checked in with my clinician after a week just for reassurance. Plain foods and lots of water helped me most.
