Switched from Wegovy to Mounjaro, appetite effects changed wildly week to week?

Would appreciate hearing from those who have been on mounjaro for a while.

I switched to MJ from wegovy last month as I was struggling with side effects. No issues with losing weight - I was losing at a slow but steady pace which is what I wanted.

I was on 1.7 wegovy and advised to move to 10mg MJ.

I have experienced virtually no side effects on MJ which is great. However, the impact on appetite / food noise has been really extreme. For the first two weeks I could barely touch food - had no appetite at all. It was so extreme that I was planning to move down a dose when I ordered my next pen. However, the following 2 weeks my appetite feels completely normal, and I’ve really struggled to hold weight steady and feel constantly hungry.

have others experienced this? Will it level out? I have even wondered if the pen might even have broken / been defective. Last week it made a slightly odd noise and took longer to administer the dose - my husband (does it for me as I’m a wimp!) said it felt different and not as “smooth” as normal.

Any insight / ideas would be much appreciated ❤️

Who on earth advised you to start on 10mg as it’s a very high dose to start off with, especially as you had actually suffered side effects on Wegovy. 😳

I’ve been on MJ for 8 months and only taking 3.5mg as suppression is still working well for me and I’ve lost 3 stones.

I think you should speak to your GP and get some proper medical advice as approaching it in such an unconventional way seems very risky to me!

I would think that it will level out and settle down. I’m not surprised that you had a very high amount of appetite suppression going straight in at 10mg. I think you would need to give it a bit of time to adjust and level out.

It’s highly unlikely the pen was defective and that you didn’t receive any medication in the injection. You can check the pen and see that the medication level has gone down to the position you’d expect for the fourth injection if you want to. Sometimes the pen can be a bit stiff to turn but that’s not an issue.

Do you already have another 10mg pen for your next month?

I don’t think there’s any point going to your GP as they aren’t prescribing and would not be able to advise you on medication that they’re not responsible for. You could contact your prescriber though and ask them. They are likely to advise moving up to 12.5mg if you continue not to have any appetite suppression or any of the other intended effects of the medication, and if you aren’t losing weight.

Agree with pp, 10mg is super high and its also a much stronger drug.
I've done the opposite switched from 10mg to 1.7mg, which worked ok for 2 months until it wore off, I believe it was working because I still had mj in my system. In the 3rd month I had inflammation, bloating, muscle pains, ibs symptoms returned, constantly craved carbs and sugar and I gained 2.5lbs even though i am a strict calorie counter. Went back to mj 7.5mg for a month and it's been super strong and i lost 6lbs, 3lbs in the first 3 days so it must have been the water retention so now I'm down to 5mg 2 weeks later.
I really can't believe they switched you from 1.7mg to 10mg when you had never been on mj before. They should have given you 5mg. 2.4mg is equivalent to 7.5mg in clinical trials. You could count clicks to reduce your dose to 7.5mg, there are many click charts online if you Google mounjaro click chart but I use a calculator to work it out and it makes the dose cheaper as you get more doses.

@SilenceInside Maybe it’s different in Ireland then as my GP prescribed my MJ but I have to pay for it as it’s not covered by the HSE (NHS equivalent).

I see her every 3 months for a check up and she’s been very informative as well as supportive.

SilenceInside · 29/03/2026 10:49

@WappityWabbit yes, it’s different. The NHS rarely prescribe WLI and the criteria to be prescribed them excludes the majority of people. For an NHS prescription you’d need a BMI of over 40 and 4 out of 5 specific weight related serious health conditions. The vast majority of people who take WLI are accessing them privately, via online pharmacies, and it’s nothing at all to do with their NHS GP.

Thanks everyone. I probably should have looked at the dose more carefully. I am prescribed by health express as I don’t meet criteria for the NHS. I spoke to a Dr there who advised that if I was on 1.7 that 10mg was the equivalent dose. I’m staying on 10mg for my next pen. I don’t really want to go any higher (also for financial reasons) so if I don’t see any impact I think I’ll probably just have to accept that the jabs aren’t for me!

Thanks for this - I think I will try this with my next pen and then reduce dose if it’s effective. Should have asked MN before I asked health express clearly!
