Going to have to give up I think...

I've been on Wegovy for three months now, lost just under a stone on 0.25mg. It seemed to be working ok, esp the lack of food noise which was amazing.

Upped the dose to 0.5 a couple of weeks ago and the side effects are really messing with my quality of life - dreadful acid reflux (despite omeprazole) that wakes me up every night feeling and often being sick, and bloating to the point I can only wear one pair of trousers that have an elasticated waist, and even they are very uncomfortable.

I can't put up with this for much longer, don't know whether to give up completely or go back down to 0.25 and see if that still works...I was so hoping this was my chance to lose the extra 5 stones I've been carrying for years...so disappointing...

I would go back down a dose initially and see how you get on before deciding to stop.

Can you count clicks with Wegovy pens, to deliver a smaller dose? I didn't think you could but a conversation elsewhere on here recently made it sound like it was an option.

If so, you could try an intermediate dose between 0.25 and 0.5 - people do that all the time on MJ because the jump from 2.5 to 5 can be similarly difficult.

If it was working ok at 0.25mg, you didn’t really need to increase your dose. A higher dosage doesn’t mean you’ll lose weight faster.

What sort of food are you eating? Certain foods will cause unpleasant digestive symptoms, especially carb heavy or fatty foods and the increased dose would have exacerbated that.

Maybe drop back to 0.25mg for a couple of weeks and remember to increase your water intake. If you’re losing around a pound a week, that’s a decent rate of loss and you’re less at risk of losing bone density if you take it steady.

Can you switch to Mounjaro? I know it's more expensive but it does seem more effective.

Thanks everyone and sorry for the delay in replying (school holidays...) I've spoken to the GP and she is going to look at reducing the dose back to 0.25 so hopefully that will do the trick as you say...I haven't wanted to give up but it's hard to keep going when it makes you feel so rough!

Thanks again.

Also make sure you have a sufficient dose of omeprezole, I developed gastritis on mounjaro and had to be seen by the gastro consultant to access higher doses, the GP standard dose without this is quite low. I still have reflux pain here and there but have got it more manageable, I had over 10 stone to lose and the actual weight loss has been going well so I’ve tried hard to get the side effects under control to allow me to continue. Not easy some days but at almost 7 stone down in the scheme of things it’s worth it.
