This really annoyed me. This GP claims to be pro WLI but of course there’s a but. 🙄 He says you shouldn’t stay on them for life and that they are not designed to be. And yet people are intending on taking them for life; diabetes treatment being one such instance.

It basically means he doesn’t understand why people have obesity and weight related issues. That it’s somehow something that they’re not trying hard enough about, are not using their willpower or are just greedy? We don’t know exactly because either he did say more and it was edited down or he just was implying that and didn’t expand because that was it.

For a start imagine if he said this about other meds that people take for life like for blood pressure or interactive thyroid as I do. Also isn’t he aware of the fact obese people lose weight and keep the weight off will save money and keep people healthier?

It just made me go “ahhhhh!” Sky News could have done with interviewing someone who is more aware of WLI.

I think it's pretty rare for doctors to understand obesity at all. That's what is so refreshing about the Giles Yeo series on BBC Sounds.

I agree.

Many gps are absolute dinosaurs about obesity in general and give terrible advice.

I had one tell me it is perfectly simple, just eat less and move more. Well if it was indeed “simple” nobody would be chronically obese.

Another told me to do the Keto diet (because he had lost ten whole pounds on it) and didn’t back down when I pointed out that I am vegetarian, had kidney problems and could not cook from scratch due to disability making following a keto diet nigh on impossible.

Other than that I'm sure it was great advice! Nightmare.

It’s disappointing isn’t it?

I’m embarassed for him, he should have at least googled before he put that statement out on weight loss injections, he clearly didn’t bother and doesn’t undestand the guidance, even the who says lifetime.
