To increase or not to increase...that is the question!!

Looking for reassurance with going up to 5mg!

I have been on 2.5mg since starting on 12 October 25 and have lost 3 stone.
This past month, though, the suppression has worn off a lot and the food noise is coming back. I have also only lost 5lbs this month, so I feel it is time to move up to 5mg, but I can't get all the horror stories out of my head.

I will caveat this by saying that I do have health anxiety and so will always imagine worst case scenario - even though I have had zero side effects with 2.5mg.

It seems to be a waste of money to stay on 2.5mg for any longer now that the effectiveness is wearing off, so please all tell me your good experiences of moving up to 5mg, please!

The point is that you step up because the % lose increases with each dose increase, so if you want to maximise it then its good to move upwards to maintain the supression etc.
so really its about how much you want to spend versus the weight loss, if you want to be on it long term or its a short term fix.

yes you will get to move up if its not working sometime later, but you also could have lost more in a shorter space of time. that obviously depends on your comfort level and reaciton to the drug.

Maximising your weight loss in a short space of time is a great way to lose your muscle mass and give yourself issues with your gall bladder and pancreas.
As a general rule, avoid losing more than 2lb per week.

I don’t think this is a good idea. Whilst a 1kg a week loss is good at the outset, later on 0.5kg a week is likely more sustainable and less likely to result in muscle loss, loose skin and rapid rebound gain.

ultimately this is the way this has been tested, the point is that you support it with your diet and excercise that suits you. Its safe weight loss, yes always potential issues but this is the way it was meant to be used......

most people on a calorie deficit can lose 1lb a week, and yes the jabs give you the additional bonus of reduction in food noise and suppression, so the point is that your meant to be able to lose more than you could without support. so losing 2-3lbs a week might seem like alot but its only 1lb over the recommended maximum weight to lose a week which is seen as sustainable and managable

Where do you get ‘the point is that your meant to be able to lose more’ from?

Thank you for this @WeAllHaveWings .

This is what I think I will do.
I am keen on the fact that I can still use the normal needles and that it will still get used within the 30 days. Those things were worrying me!

You did so well keeping on it for 20 months - that is amazing!
I though I had done well staying on 2.5mg for 5 months and it still working.

My 5mg pen arrived today and I am looking forward to jabbing again on Sunday!

Thank you all for your advice.

Don't worry too much about just the 30 days. Doctors at reputable providers such as Voy now prescribe pens off label click counting for 6 weeks (day 35) because they have commissioned independent testing to prove it effective/safe.

It is likely effective/safe for longer (if you decide to stay at 2.5mg / 30 clicks and use for longer) but Voy not sharing that as commercially it doesn't make sense for them. Do what you feel comfortable with, but if you do stretch the pen out be aware many providers will become awkward if you don't reorder every 5-6 weeks.

I have never had any problem ordering from providers with a longer gap. Most realise that due to the cost many of us move pharmacies to chase the introductory deals. I've just ordered from Zava, four months after my last pen order from them. They didn't even ask for proof of my last prescription. Pillsorted questioned me last month when they saw that it was three months since my last prescription. - I explained that I had stockpiled in August before the prices went up. I just had to send a photo of all my prescription boxes. I would definitely recommend keeping all your boxes.
