Weight loss has really slowed

I've been on mounjaro just over a year, I've lost 51.5kg. I still need to lose about 25kg. I'm really pleased so far but it seems the last few months its really slowed down and I'm only losing 1.5-2kg a month. Has anyone else experienced this and can give me some tips to boost it again?

I have spoken with my doctor this morning (getting it via a private doctor) and she recommends sticking it out and only taking a break if i drop to half a kilo loss. At that point she said to take a break for 2-3 months and restarting from the beginning.

I am on 15mg. I have been going to the gym 4 times a week, mainly focussing on cardio with some strength training. I have made huge changes in all areas of my life, meal planning, cooking from scratch etc. Is this just a normal part of weight loss, stalling? I didn't expect it to happen when i still have a lot to lose.

@Brightlittlecanary but the OP is losing weight? Around 1.5 to 2kg a month, which is a reasonable rate of loss.

Sorry I wasn’t clear, and phrased that badly, for her activity levels and consumption it should be higher.

SilenceInside · 10/03/2026 12:36

@Brightlittlecanary Do you really think the OP needs to see a doctor very quickly, because she isn't losing enough weight according to what you think she "should" be losing? And given that she spoke to the prescribing doctor this morning?

It’s been a few months now, so yes.

Just to be clear, i see a private doctor face to face monthly for mounjaro. I AM still losing weight, my Dr is happy with the way its going. I am the one who is expecting more. I also saw my own GP a week ago and she's requested bloods because I've not had any done in years so if theres anything wrong I'm sure it will show on there.

calorie counting is an art not a science too isn’t it - anything we log is a best estimate, based on averages, the closest we can get etc. I always find the goals I’m set on nutracheck and my fitness pal don’t relate to what actually happens - that’s down to (as you say) sleep, hormones, activities etc. how much carby food you’ve had, if you need a poo - all that good stuff.

I would say perhaps (and especially if you are in the peri stages) trying to eat a bit more in the low days may help - not because of starvation mode before anyone points out it’s a myth but because your sleep quality can be not as good and that’s really important - mj can mess with sleep a bit I find.

otherwise you are still doing great and it is just a fact of life it slows down the closer we get to goal.

well done so far!

Are you eating less than 400 calories a day the day after your jab, have I read that right? I do calorie cycling which is where I eat more on day 6 and 7 than the rest of the week but it evens out overall. I have good losses after I've had a big eating day for some reason, I worry you're not eating enough.

Some times i can manage to get a bit more in, but its generally not very much. My appetite is extremely suppressed 48-72 hours after i jab. I have to force myself to eat that much. I've been talking with a friend this evening about it and she thinks its not enough and nutracheck have set my protein goal very low too. She thinks i need to try a different app/calculator to figure it out. She weighs about 25kg less than i do and is on about 400 cals more a day whilst in deficit. She's suggested that my metabolism may have slowed down because the of eating such low amounts. Maybe i need to look a bit more in to that and have a move around of a few things 🤔

What protein goal are you aiming for?

Crystallllll · 10/03/2026 21:47

Sometimes it’s not about weight loss- are you taking measurements and photos to see how you’ve progressed? Especially if you are working out as well. How do your clothes feel?

PurpleCoo · 10/03/2026 21:51

You are still having a steady loss, I don't understand what the problem is, and I would be really pleased with that rate of loss.

I have lost about 1kg is 3 months!! That really is a stall. However, I am not too concerned as I am recomping based on body scans and muscle is increasing and fat decreasing. I have less than a Kg to go until I reach a healthy BMI, so it's to be expected that weight loss slows down.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/03/2026 21:55

@NoWittyNamesAvailable

I've been on MJ for 26 months and I've lost 9st 8lb.

In the second year of taking it, my loss slowed down to 1lb a week, then about 0.5lb a week.

I've only got 8-9lb left to lose and it'll take me 3 - 4 months.

That's normal and is absolutely to be expected.

None of us can carry on losing weight at the rate we did at the start. That is unrealistic. I lost 15lb in my first week. Nobody even noticed that I'd lost anything until I'd lost 6st!

Keep going @NoWittyNamesAvailable you're doing just fine.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/03/2026 22:00

Actually, someone has mentioned photographs.

I can see in the mirror that even though my rate of loss is slow now, my shape is still changing and I'm losing inches.

NoWittyNamesAvailable · 10/03/2026 23:04

I do have photos yes, i can see a huge difference. My clothes have been fitting better, I'm in between sizes at the moment. I feel like i over think things too much at times, and this is probably one of them. I'm not giving up i need to readjust things, probably my outlook on it all being the main one. I am trying to focus more on how much better i feel both physically and mentally, and how easier pretty much everything is now.

I dont expect the loses to be the same as they were in the beginning, but i feel like it should be more for how hard I'm working. I just need to keep in mind how far I've actually come and the goal is far closer than the beginning weight was. Slow and steady will make it easier to stock with all the changes to keep it off.

I've been going along at that rate or lower since practically the third week, I haven't gone up the doses (past cost, part side effects) so still switching between 3.5 and 5mg. No real knowledge but I agree with earlier poster that losing slowly for a period or even plateau and just maintaining is probably good thing. Especially if you are someone like me who got overweight via disordered eating - give both body and mind a chance to reset.

I know it is really frustrating given cost etc. I tell myself, it doesn't matter if it takes me three or even six months longer to get there, if that means I stay there. In my head, every week I keep plodding forward, however slowly, building new habits etc, increases the chances of long term siccess.

Think how far you've already come, how different you feel. You've done amazing!!!

Would trying to reframe this stage as consolidation not LOSING help?
