Want to restart, but my mind is spiralling about health implications

So, as the title suggests…I took MJ from May to Oct, swapped to Wegovy for another 2 months.
Lost about 2 stone. Probably didn’t really commit to healthy eating as it was such an insane experience to actually see the scales reducing. Have put half a stone on, which I am
now resolving healthy habits to try to reduce.
But with summer on the horizon, the extra half a stone makes me feel ‘urgh’. I loved how I felt last year, and am terrified it will all unravel. It’s all centred around my middle, and I feel meh.
But, and I apologise that this has probably been said many times before, the association with thyroid cancer risks is making me so worried.
If anyone had any scientific links that would stop my mind from going crazy, that would be a big help.
Also, are any meds less risky-new injections, patches etc, anything I’ve missed?
TIA.

There is no general thyroid cancer risk. The theoretical connection is based on one study of rodents (rats I think) which were given a huge lifetime long overdose of a GLP1 which produced a slightly higher rate of some specific thyroid cancers. As a result there is a recommendation not to use GLP1s if you have a family or personal history of those specific thyroid cancers. There has not been any correlation with thyroid cancer in any of the human research trials.

There are no GLP1 patches, not that the delivery method would likely make a difference. And there is no new GLP1 available in the UK at the moment, the next ones coming are a tablet form of Wegovy and then later a triple action GLP1 called retatrutide. But these haven’t been approved yet and also will have the same safety profile as Wegovy or Mounjaro.

Obesity is a risk factor for thyroid cancers.

My bmi was only ever fractionally over 30 but I still had high blood pressure. It’s still fractionally over 25 but I’ve had to stop my blood pressure medication as it was going too low.

Being overweight correlates to a higher risk of several female cancers. It also makes it harder to exercise etc

frankly I’d take the risks of weight loss medication over the risks of being fat any day. I was in denial about how much being overweight was affecting my health as I’m very fit (I’ve run marathons) and while it does reduce the risk, not as much as being slim and fit.

Not one person has got thyroid cancer from the meds in over 50 million on the drugs globally and in use over 20 years and then 15 before in trials.

as a pp said ir was seen in mice, in the early trials, the drug tweaked and never seen again, but it has to go on the box.

do you suffer health anxiety in general, are you not more worried about the absolute risks of obesity instead it is the number one cause of cancer.

also the drugs carry so many health benefits, from reduced cancers to cardio health, that many like myself stay on long term to get those Benefits

notnone person has ever died due to correct usage of the drugs, the only deaths have been due to either incorrect dosage, ie taking a very large amount, or fakes, and even then it’s minimal about 200 I think,

Op if it helps contextualise it for you.

here is the obesity related cancers and compare that to not one person getting cancer directly linked to the drugs globally, in nearly 40 years of usage.

obesity itself is a cause of thyroid cancer. In women 20 percent of cancers are due excess weight and you are statistically 40 percent more likely to get weight related cancer if obese.

Again, if you couple that with the low to non existent risks of the drug, I think that most people’s risk apetite would chose the drugs as the safe option.

of course non obese people get cancer, 80 percent of cancers in women is non obese related, but reducing your risk by up to 40 percent of being in that situation has to be a win.

as such, I’d not walk to the pharmacy I’d run.

Key Obesity-Related Cancers
Research identifies strong associations between excess body fat and the following cancers:

Mechanisms and Impact Biological Causes: Excess fat tissue produces extra estrogen and leads to chronic, low-grade inflammation, as well as higher levels of insulin and insulin-like growth factors, all of which can encourage cancer development. Increased Risk: A higher Body Mass Index (BMI) is linearly correlated with increased risk. Prevention: Losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can lower the risk of developing these cancers. Emerging Trend: Obesity-related cancers are increasingly appearing in younger adults (under 50), with notable rises in colorectal, uterine, and kidney cancers.
