Is there anyone who has got all the way to 15mg Mounjaro and it has not helped?

I have read that approximately 15% of people are not helped by mounjaro.

The criteria for this meaning having moved up the doses correctly as prescribed to the maximum.

Starting at 2.5, then 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, to 15mg and then staying on 15mg for at least four doses before concluding mounjaro does not help you lose weight, not just trying any of the lower doses and giving up.

The people I know in real life have all had a positive effect (myself included) to varying degrees so I wondered if any mumsnetters are in that unlucky 15%?

I suspect most people who say they can’t lose weight on Mounjaro have calculated their calorie deficit properly and probably haven’t changed their food choices.

SilenceInside · 03/03/2026 08:22

The point though is that Mounjaro is a hormone (well two) that acts on your appetite/hunger feedback system, and so if it works on your system you should end up eating less even if you don't calculate your calorie deficit. You would change your food choices because of the action of the medication making you less hungry and fuller sooner. So if it isn't working for you and you aren't sticking to a calorie deficit then clearly you wouldn't lose weight.

I’m sorry. This was supposed to say ‘haven’t’ calculated their calorie deficit properly.

A colleague has said that it isn't working for them and they are going to stop as it's a waste of money - she's gone to the 5mg but doesn't intend to go further or continue.
If you don't perceive or experience any benefits from the low doses, I don't understand why anyone would continue to 15mg?

I’ve seen people on here who have went all the way up. It’s the chance it may work at the higher doses. However I agree if it literally has no impact then I’m not sure I’d continue.

i would say the mind is a powerful thing though I think some people beleive it’s working, when it’s not, the placebo effect, which is why some feel no impact the second time, or they feel it stopped working. Because it never did and diet fatigue set in.

SilenceInside · 03/03/2026 09:08

I would have continued to 15mg, if the lower doses had no effect, because clearly the medication builds in your system each week and at some point may reach a level where it has an impact on you. I think I'd forever be wondering if it could have worked if I hadn't moved through all the doses and done the 4 weeks on 15mg.

Because 5mg is not intended to be universally therapeutic.

The point of starting low is to gradually acclimatise your body to the medication so as to avoid side effects, not that the lower doses are going to give suppression.

Giving up before you get to 15mg means you haven’t really established if mounjaro works for you at all.

Some people do get a positive effect at the lower doses but they are the minority and the drug is available up to a dose of 15mg because some people need that 15 mg dose.

Personally, I noticed zero effect until I got to 10mg and then went on to lost 8 stones.

Your colleague probably had insulin resistance (common) and needs a higher dose. I needed 10mg to resolve my high blood sugar symptoms for better and easier losses. The rest of my loss before it was strict calorie counting and it was not easy!

Doggymummar · 03/03/2026 21:32

It didn't work fo4 me till 10mg. But I swapped from Rybelsus

It’s not that. I’ve lost over four stones in nine months. But I’m still getting the hunger, the greed and I never feel full. I could eat and eat. I get no side effects and there’s nothing that I couldn’t eat if I wanted to (alcohol/rich/spicy etc). I’m on a 12.5 pen, I’ve another 12.5 and a 15mg pen left, which I bulk bought. After that I will give up the pens and go it alone. I don’t think I can justify £250 a month when it m just using my willpower and healthy habits to lose weight anyway. I may as well pay for a few personal training sessions or a gym membership instead.

Boots89 · 03/03/2026 21:35

I lost 7 stone worked my way up to 12.5mg.

fartoomuchtoblerone · 03/03/2026 21:37

Why do people stick at the lower doses when it’s not yet working? For me it was hope, patience, the knowledge that if this didn’t work it was likely either gastric surgery or I’d soon be seeing obesity-related health issues.

Similarly I didn’t feel much effect on my appetite until 10 mg.

NigellaAwesome · 03/03/2026 21:47

I’m on 15mg and progress is glacial. I’ve lost about 20kg (3stone) but that has been over three years. I keep persevering with it though as if I stopped I would be likely to put weight back on. I have had chronic stress for the last 8 years (which has thankfully recently resolved to some extent) so I think all the cortisol has not been helping.

NigellaAwesome · 03/03/2026 22:16

In fact I have just looked through my diaries, and I have lost about 3.5kg in the last year, so really not great compared with others, but as I say, I think it is such enormous stress I’ve been under that is impacting on my loss.

ShottaSherrif · 04/03/2026 04:23

I lost 2st on the lowest dose, at a reasonable pace of 1-2lb a week. I’m the opposite- I couldn’t imagine going higher as it really impacted me. I wasn’t huge though, I just wanted to shift a stubborn stone or so that had lingered post last baby in my 40s and was inspired to try a low dose after reading that Harriet Walker at the Times had done it. I found it absolutely brilliant. I have always battled food noise and sugar cravings even when slim.

MsJJones · 04/03/2026 06:52

I am T2 diabetic (self-funded) and it has been a big struggle for me. I’ve had horrendous side effects and very slow weight loss compared to some (3 stone in a year, mostly in first few months). I’m currently on 7.5mg which means the symptoms are fairly manageable (gas and nausea) but the appetite suppression is lower than it was on 12.5 and I struggle with only being able to stomach very bland/carby foods and sometimes eating more than I need just to mask the foul taste in my mouth. I’ve never totally lost the food noise or had the results I’ve seen in others.

I have thought about giving up, but it has helped my blood sugar levels considerably. I keep reminding myself that for me, it’s not just about weight loss.

HappyWineDay · 04/03/2026 06:59

I’ve found that generally on 10mg I have little to no food noise when I eat my usual low carb diet. However, if I do have carbs then the noise returns later that day or the next day with a vengeance. A bit of willpower gets me through it. But it reminds me if I want to avoid the hunger then I must avoid the carbs.
